Northwell Health Eye institute at Smithtown

I have been going to see Dr. Vinokur for over 15 years. He has always been a caring doctor dedicated to his patients and their eye health. He showed this dedication during a routine follow-up exam three months ago. His technician asked if I had any floaters. I said I actually did see a floater several times a few days before but I didn't think anything of it. Dr. Vinokur explained that while floaters could be nothing, they can also indicate serious eye disease. He insisted on dilating my eyes to take a closer look. I really didn't want him to as it was the end of the day and I thought it wasn't necessary. Well, I'm extremely grateful that he did. He found a large tear in my retina that most likely would have caused me permanent vision loss in that eye if it wasn't caught. He immediately got on the phone and made me an appointment with a retina specialist to have it repaired immediately. Dr. Vinokur is a very experienced, knowledgeable doctor who truly cares about his patients and works hard to care for their vision health. I am thankful for his diligence and for saving the vision in my left eye.

My wife saw the doctor today around 3:15 pm and he was unbelievally obnoxious to her, maybe he was having a bad day, or the bad day was literally killing him. He spoke to her about off topic issues pointing to Elon Musk laying off people and said that is a good thing, as he knew my wife was working for the IRS. Those comments were uncalled for and were very unprofessional. My wife being the nice person she is brushed it off, if I would have been there the wole thing would have taken a wild turn. It seems gone are the days where the doctors job was to comfort the patient, this experience for my wife was straight out of hell because the secretaries also seemed to have taken after the doctor and were not in a mood to help in anyway. Needless to say we will never visit this doctor again, shame on them for treating people this way. Now that I am reading the other one star reviews I am seeing the same rhetoric - trul this does not even deserve a one star but if we dont select that this review cannot posted.

If I could give 0 star it will be too good for this office. Please note: the doctor is amazing, not the staff. Office coded my annual preventive exam as I had medical necessity and I was seeking medical help from the doctor. They refuced to correct the code and I ended up with over $700 bill for my annual routine exam. No assistance to resolve the situation, no call back. If my doctor would not join this office, would never come here. Beware. Worst ever seen

I am not the patient my husband is. He raves about dr weissman, but his staff is a different story. We were told someone would be with us shortly w h en we arrived. 2 hours later nothing. I went to ask the only girl up front. She schedules appointments. All I did was ask how long it would take since we had been there 2 hours already. She told me she couldn't do anything about it and I would have to wait. I saT down and then heard her tell a tech that I had an attitude? First of all respect your elders..she was young enough to be my daughter. Secondly, when did it become an "attitude" to ask a simple question. Very disrespectful..

Just had my follow up visit as I was there a few weeks ago. Toni at the front desk is awesome and very sweet and friendly. Medical staff is funny and friendly too. Dr. Vinokur was amazing. He gave me a thorough examination and helped allay my trepidation. I'll sum this up quickly...If he's in your plan then he's the man cause I'm a fan.

After coming here twice, I will not be returning. This practice has caused me more problems than I'd care to relive. Most recently (about 2 weeks ago), I was there for a routine annual eye exam. When I presented my insurance cards to the front desk, I was nastily informed that they'll have to process it through the medical side rather than vision. Unbeknownst to me, going through the vision coverage would have required a pre-authorization. I'd never been told this prior & said as much to the receptionist. The woman was hostile for no apparent reason. Other patients couldn't help but look over and take notice. The eye exam was quick and uneventful but 2 days later, I suddenly developed what I came to find out was a central corneal ulcer resulting from a bacterial infection. I temporarily lost vision in my eye, developed a film over the eyeball and had severe pain. That I'd just had an exam and nothing was remotely detected is extremely telling to both myself and the myriad doctors I saw in order to treat this infection. Everyone agreed that it was highly suspicious that this infection was very likely a result of my being at this office. I now had to pay co-pays for urgent care, an opthamologist and to date, 3 visits with a corneal specialist and prescription eye drops to treat this aggressive infection. My vision will never be the same, so I am told. Last year, I was given an incorrect prescription for my contacts and because I'd opened the box, I couldn't get a refund. Instead, they had to contact the company and have a year's supply of trial contacts sent to me. A large amount were defective with having tears in them upon opening or within a few days of wearing. In addition, I was also on the receiving end of more incredibly rude behavior from the front desk. Having worked in healthcare and clinical research for 16 years, I am very experienced in working with patients. Had I ever spoken to a patient in that manner, I would have had disciplinary action taken against me if not fired. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this office. I don't often write reviews but I would never want to see someone else go through the same experiences that I have.

Doctors are great but the people at the front desk aren't. They treat their patients horribly. One of them even insulted me by saying I couldn't speak English. When I was clearly speaking to her in English with no problem. To make an appointment I had to reenter my personal information when I've already been there and did that in person. A waste of my time. They need to work on their efficiency and friendliness.
