The staff is great, but the doctor is rude, very, not concerning my daughter has had the same prescription for years, but it's no good, Once I have complained, he was very passive aggressive telling me she's fine. She's telling me she cannot see I witnessed she cannot see with her glasses or without them. He says nothing wrong with her. She's fine. And if I don't like it, I can find another doctor. Her last appointment there was her last appointment. I have seek A new eye doctor.

This Doctor is not kid friendly. My kiddo was upset because he shined a toy in their face and he wouldn't let them touch it. My kid has special needs. Started crying. Doctor asked me to hold the kid to help, which kind of made it worse. Kid was kicking around and flailing arms, Doctor was sitting right in front of us. Doctor grabbed my kid's leg and said "don't let your kid kick me". As a professional working with children, I expect more understanding and compassion. It was a terrible and overwhelming experience, not to mention we were there for 2 hours. We will absolutely not be back. Not to mention- he didn't even say hello before he started shining objects in their face. It was so disorienting.

I was so nervous to come here. My 9 month old had a little eye crossing that had lessened, but our doctor wanted him checked. Right when I walked in, everyone was so friendly, warm, and caring. The nurse was exceptional to me and my baby! The doctor was thorough, answered all my questions, and put me and my baby at ease. 10/10!

My daughter has level 3 autism/non verbal. We were running behind so I called to notify that we are on our way that my daughter has special needs (level 3 autism) and she responded, oh we weren't aware of that. Which my husband was not to thrilled to hear. When we finally got there, the nurse in the back was amazing and got my daughter's eyes dilated even though she was extremely upset but she got the job done. We waited and now it was time to see the doctor. He wanted me to hold my daughter which I did but since she has autism, it's a little more difficult. She was kicking and screaming which is normal for being in a doctors office. I couldn't hold her anymore so my husband took over. The doctor said to hold her so she doesn't kick or hit him. He repeated that he won't be able to do the exam for her behavioral issues. It was literally less than 5 minutes and he didn't even try. He didn't even want to touch her so he doesn't get hit. It was poor professionalism on their part. I know my daughter has level 3 autism, non verbal and we were given a referral to see this place. Please do not use this place if you have a special needs child. Not worth the 40 min drive, nor your time to be told we can't do the exam because of your child's behavioral issues. Hope this helps another family.

Misdiagnosed. We were patients for 3 years and had 3 different surgeries with Dr. Bartiss. Starting around 9months until 3years old. The only positive thing I have to say is the surgery's did help my child's alignment and head tilting. The only reason we left was due to a change of military assignment. Before leaving Dr. Bartiss informed us that our child would need another surgery. When we went to the new ophthalmologist at a children's hospital he said we did not need another surgery that our child needed glasses and had extremely low vision & that our child had a rare genetic condition affecting the 6th cranial nerve called Duane's Syndrome leaving our child incapable of horizontal eye movement. I was so caught off guard by this because I asked Dr. Bartiss on multiple occasions if he thought glasses would help but, his response was the vision is 20/20 and the alignment is the only issue. I also asked about Duane's syndrome because I work in healthcare and had concerns. He again dismissed me and said that was a very rare condition and my child did not have it. Because of this we pursued a 3rd opinion at another pediatric ophthalmologist who also confirmed we had low vision and Duane's syndrome. I feel like the most awful mama because I knew in my gut something was off but didn't follow it. As a result my child went without vision for the first 4 years of life. When we got the first glasses my child instantly made the comment "I can see everything". As we drove home my child looked at books and asked what is this talking about the small who's in Horton hears a who. Which we have read a million times but my child was never able to see them. Me and my husband sat in the front seat of the car crying as our child was seeing a whole world we didn't know our child was missing. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion please!

Wanted to share my experience with Family Eye Care of the Carolinas (Dr. Bartiss) in hopes to save another Mama from the AWFUL experience I endured. For context I have 2.5 year old twins boys and an almost 1 year old baby boy. I had the baby and one of my twins in the double stroller and had my other twin (the one whose appointment it was) walk alongside me. I am a very attentive mother and am fully aware that equipment is expensive and do not let my children run rampant in any doctors office. That being said, we walked into the clinic and were made to feel like such an inconvenience by the receptionist. After this, we were lead into the exam room, where the nurse asked the routine checkup questions. We then were left to wait for about 45 minutes for the doctor to arrive. During this time, I did everything in my power to keep all the kids entertained, but 45 minutes is a LONG time for two year olds and a baby. Towards the end, the baby began to scream, so I went to pick him up. At this time, the Dr walked in, and my 2 year old son went to go sit in the exam chair. Immediately, the Dr. opens the door and begins screaming, "DON'T LET HIM TOUCH THAT, it's not a toy!!!" He then proceeded to tell me I needed to put my screaming son down and hold my two year old so we could "get this done". My son's eyes were dilated at this point and we were sent back to the waiting room until they were ready for him. As we were lead back into the exam room, the nurse looks at me and says "make sure he stays on the carpeted area [away from all the equipment]" and then shuts the door behind us...shortly before the doctor finally came back in, the baby was fussy again, so he was again in need of being held. I went to go put him back in the stroller when Dr. Bartiss walked in, but he felt the need to look at me and say, "You need to put him down, so we can get this over with!" He then looked at my 2 year olds eyes for about five seconds and determined there was absolutely nothing wrong. Words cannot describe how hurt I was by this experience. I shouldn't be made to feel like such and inconvenience for having more than one child. I should not be made to feel like an awful mother for picking up my crying baby. I should not be made to feel like I do not watch my children or that I allow them to run rampant when I don't. I just don't understand why people choose to work with kids if they don't understand normal kid behaviors and curiosity! I do not recommend this practice in the slightest!

Dr Benjamin Wacker is the best eye doctor I've had in the last 20 years! He listened carefully when I explained my symptoms and my concerns with my right eye. He quickly diagnosed the problem, and he took the time to explain what was happening with my vision. I felt a huge relief after he explained everything to me, and then he had the front desk personnel, Audrea and Jennifer schedule a 30-day follow-up appointment. Audrea and Jennifer were professional and friendly. Everyone seemed to actually enjoy their job because they were so pleasant. The optician Raven is outstanding. She went out of her way to make sure I had the perfect glasses for my needs/lifestyle. She wasn't pushy. She knows her job and really cares about the customer. I'll never go anywhere else for my eye care. Thank you everyone at Family Eye Care of the Carolinas. You all are great!
