For anyone seeking a new eye doctor, look no further than Wise Eye Care. Being new resident to Black Mountain, I needed to discover a new eye doctor. I was blessed to find Wise Eye Care and Dr. Valerie Wise. She and her son own and operate the practice. I have to say that this was one of the most thorough medical visits I have experienced in my entire lifetime. From the front staff team members to Dr. Valerie Wise, they ensured I had the best care and information. I was truly fascinated by the time that the entire team spent with me during my first visit. Being reared in a family owned and operated pharmacy / home health care business, this is truly how medicine should be practiced. It felt like I took a step back in time, where doctors truly cared and took the time to spend with their patients. Do yourself a favor and book your appointment with the Wise Eye Care practice today. Excited to bring another one of my kiddos to Wise Eye Care today! Dr. Wise and his entire staff went above and beyond - especially to get us an appointment quickly when another provider fell through at the last minute, due to not accepting our Medicare plan. Every other practice I called in Asheville was many months wait to get an appointment. We were able to be seen quickly and with great care at Wise. We were also able to order my daughter's glasses on the spot and I'm very excited to pick them up today. Everyone we encountered was lovely, very comfortable office, and most importantly to me, kid friendly. Dr. Wise spent plenty of time with us, going into detail to explain my daughter's specific needs and eye condition. Highly recommend!

I had a few shady experiences there with previous appointments. Not bad regarding the medical care, but definitely had heard some pretty judgmental conversations at the front desk, in which staff was engaged. I agree with the other review expressing hesitancy of refering anyone LGBTQ+ there. But, today was the final straw. I called to get my perscription specifics emailed to me, and the front desk did that upon request. I realized the pupillary distance is not included on the perscription, so I called and got connected to the right department to get that information. He tells me they don't take that measurement unless you come in and pay $25 for it. I find that very odd that they wouldn't already have that measurement on file, considering that is absolutely necessary for my perscription glasses I got from them 2 years ago. So, I question him. After some fumbling around and mumbling over the phone, he suddenly says, "we dont have any perscription on file for you." Obviously, I'm dumbfounded because not only did they JUST email me my perscription earlier that same day, but what kind of reputable medical establishment can't retrieve a customer's perscription suddenly? I finally ask for a higher up because this is incredibly weird. A woman gets on the phone and says they have my perscription (without offering any kind of apology for the unnecessary confusion) and then confirms, yes, they do have the PD information, but they won't release it to the customer unless they come in and pay $25. Upon research after the phone call, it is definitely a thing to charge for this, however, a lot of states have actually outlawed refusal to give, or charge for this information, as it seems like quite the shady practice. It's a way for them to make money off of their customers when they find out they're purchasing glasses online, which is what I was doing, and doing so because their medicaid selection does indeed absolutely suck, as claimed in a previous review. So, given all the combined experiences above, it's definitely time to find different eye care.

This was my first time visiting a Family Owned Eye Care Practice and I will NEVER be going back to those big chain clinics again. Dr. Valerie Wise was the best and most welcoming Eye Doctor I have ever seen. She was extremely thorough and took her time. She really cares about her patients and makes the entire visit feel warm and welcoming. If you are looking for a sign to book an appointment with Wise Eye Care, this is it!!!

Such a great experience! I called Dr. Valerie Wise on a Sunday about an eye concern. I was visiting Black Mountain from Pawleys Island. She called me back quickly and was kind & helpful - made an appointment for me in office the next day. Office staff were wonderful, efficient and kind. My concerns were diagnosed & I no longer have to worry. As an RN I would refer friends & family to this practice. Thank you!

I have Medicaid and I came to Wise Eye Care because I needed a new eyeglass prescription and they accepted my insurance. My appointment went okay but when I was sent to choose glasses I wasn't shown all of my options so I chose something I thought I could tolerate, a bold pair of brown frames. I wasn't told anything about the lenses I was getting. When I went in to pick up my eyeglasses, they were not fitting properly so they replaced the arms of my new glasses with the arms off the demo pair. When I got home, I realized that the frames were black, not brown like I ordered, and when I called to explain what happened they told me to come back in. Upon arrival, I showed them the issue, they acknowledged the color was not the same, then told me I had to keep them anyway and there was nothing they could do... so I drove all the way there for nothing. I'm so disappointed because I hate black frames for eyeglasses and would have definitely chosen something different if I had known they'd be black. Not to mention they never even gave me any copies of my new prescription, even after paying out of pocket for a contact fitting. I've attached a photo of the jury-rigged glasses I now cannot wear. What a waste of time, money, and energy!

The folks at Wise Eye Care are amazing! I needed help urgently, and they bent over backwards to assist me quickly. So kind! Lovely office and staff. Highly recommend!

Love the place! I have not been to the eye doctor since I was probably 12. This place was so accommodating and nice. The ladies that work here are amazing! The doctor was amazing! (Very handsome too!) Very knowledgeable, patient and kind... I highly recommend coming here for any eye care that you need. If I can give more stars I would!
