Carrboro Family Vision in Chapel Hill

What an awful experience. I was really looking forward to this appointment given all the positive reviews, but the entire process was deeply disorganized from start to finish. Scheduling alone was a mess. I called to make an appointment and received no confirmation text or email. I had to call back just to get a confirmation email, at which point they sent a calendar invite - except the calendar invite listed a different time than my actual appointment time. I called the day before to confirm my appointment (something the office should have done themselves) because the times conflicted. On top of that, I wasn't given access to their patient portal until about two hours before my appointment, which meant I couldn't complete the required paperwork in advance because I had prior commitments. Despite all of this, I was willing to proceed. However, the real issue became apparent once I arrived. The office was clearly running at least an hour behind schedule. The patient scheduled before me was audibly frustrated and expressed her concerns about the delay to the staff. By the time the doctor even saw her, it was already 40 minutes past my scheduled appointment time - meaning the earliest I would have been seen was over an hour late. What's unacceptable is that the front desk and staff never once communicated the delay to patients. The appointment was scheduled for 20 minutes (as stated both on the phone and in the calendar invite). Delays happen, but being nearly an hour behind without acknowledging it or informing patients - either prior to arrival or upon check-in - is deeply unprofessional. When I mentioned to the front desk that it would have been helpful to know about the delay, I was told, "Well, I didn't know." That response was disappointing and unprofessional. At a minimum, patients should be informed when an office is running significantly behind. I ultimately never saw the doctor because I had other commitments and could not wait indefinitely. I wasted 25 minutes driving there, 40 minutes waiting, and another 25 minutes driving home for nothing. This office is disorganized, poorly managed, and unprofessional. Extremely disappointing experience.

We have had the best experience here! Dr. Kirchmer has been wonderful with our family! She has been so thorough, kind and helpful with my 8 year old daughter's glasses these past couple years and now my 6 year old son. The whole staff has always been so kind and warm with our family.

Dr. Kirchmer has done an excellent job of updating my prescription for progressive gas permeable contact lenses. When I was fitted with the first pair, she tested my vision and adjusted the prescription. When I came back to get the second pair tested, she discovered one eye was very dry and rescheduled me to come back after I'd applied eye drops so that my eyes would be fully lubricated. All these services were covered by the original fitting fee. I really appreciate her thoroughness!

Great staff, I've been a patient for years. Very high prices, Very little choices for my small forehead in frames. Plus they sold to a corporation( certain their choice, but I will no longer be a patient there. Sad to say this.

Was having problems with my eyes. Just moved here. My daughter goes here. Made appt and got in immediately. Staff very professional and pleasant. Dr. was excellent. Highly recommend!!! Thank you Carrboro Family Vision in Chapel Hill

From the phone call to through the end of the visit I felt heard respected and truly helped. All my questions were answered and a care plan that made me feel confident was given. 100 percent recommend for anyone in the area... or not!

From the retinal exam to the thorough eye exam given by Dr. Barber, there was attentive and sincere care provided to my mother. She spoke highly of her experience after not having an eye exam for several years!

Carrboro family vision is great!!! I had been being seen there a long time ago but then was seeing a corporate eye doctor for a few years because it was more convenient to where I was located at the time. I missed the personal touch of a non corporate model so I switched back to Carrboro Family Vision. Lovely office, buttoned up processes, nice staff, a personal touch, and you will get a very thorough exam. Much more thorough than I had been getting at the corporate eye place I had been visiting. They offered to go out of their way to research my insurance to see if there was coverage even though i thought probably not. I've never been offered that at the other place if been going. And the Chapel hill location is central to everything and very convenient. 5 stars all the way.
