University Eye Associates

We chose University Eye Associates because of the strong reviews and reputation, and unfortunately our experience did not align with that expectation. From the moment we arrived, the office felt worn and disengaged. Despite several staff members being present when we walked in, we were not acknowledged for over five minutes. The front desk interaction felt inattentive and unwelcoming, which was especially disappointing as first-time patients. Dr. Best did not introduce himself and moved through the appointment in a very transactional way. To be fair, he was thorough in determining the correct prescription and did acknowledge my family's history of eye disease. However, the overall bedside manner was lacking. The visit felt rushed and impersonal--more like an assembly line than a patient-centered medical experience. For my husband, the experience was similar. He received a competent eye exam, but there was no warmth, curiosity, or engagement--no effort to ask if this was his first visit, no rapport, and no sense that our presence mattered beyond completing the exam. We were hoping for both clinical excellence and a practice that values patients as people. While the technical aspects of the exam were solid, the lack of professionalism, engagement, and hospitality made this an experience we would not choose again, other than returning to pick up glasses already ordered. We hope this feedback is helpful, as there is clearly an opportunity here to better align the patient experience with the strong reputation that brought us in.

Saw Dr. Hamp for a contact lens evaluation and he refitted me into the 1-day Acuvue Oasys Max Multifocal for Astigmatism which improved my near and distance vision. During my testing he also noticed I was developing glaucoma. He prescribed eye drops and my pressure readings have improved significantly. I have been very pleased with Dr. Hamp and would recommend University Eye.

Excellent care and visit at University eye associates Davidson! Dr. best is skilled and informative when performing your eye exam and the staff is very welcoming from start to finish! The selection of glasses is very organized and the store has lots of options, the young ladies who help to process your order are helpful and kind. After having been a patient of this practice for the past 10 years, sadly, I will not be back. Prior to my annual exam, I provided the practice with my updated insurance information as I just turned 65 and switched over to Medicare along with United healthcare for my vision coverage. After my appointment and a decision about an updated pair of glasses, I was shocked at how much I had to pay. When I inquired about insurance, they told me they don't accept UHC butdid accept my previous coverage through VSP Which I had used at that practice for the past 10 years. In my opinion, when I provided them with my updated coverage, They should've informed me that they don't accept UHC so that I could've made a decision to keep or cancel the appointment. This was, minimally, a $200 ommision on their part. I found it to be borderline, dishonest, by omission and a poor business practice that has now led to them losing me as a patient. They should seriously consider changing their practices by advising their patients who switch carriers when they don't accept the new carrier's coverage.

University Eye Care is friendly, efficient and professional practice. I would highly recommend them. Dr Schmidt is wonderful. All of the Drs are great, I have been with this practice for years.

Always a great experience at University Eye Associates in Davidson. Rarely a wait, excellent care from physicians and all my needs met in a professional and compassionate manner!
