Duke Eye Center South Durham

I go to the Duke Eye Center every year for a follow up on previous issue. Every year I have to run the same tests and I always dread it. Luckily though, every time I have gone I have had the friendliest staff members. Yesterday was no different. I had TaNetta and she treated me with efficient, kind and respectful service. She calmed my fears and was very patient. I wanted to give her a shoutout for her kindness! I also do love my Dr Seng.

Had my first visit with the team at Duke Eye Center South Durham this past Friday. I had never been to this facility before. I had been warned by others that parking could be a nightmare and that wait times sometimes are not great. I arrived a few minutes early to be cautious - I found parking relatively easy. From the time I pulled in to being parked and in the office was less than a minute. The front desk staff greeted me as I had to wait while they served others. Then the lady who checked me in was pleasant and walked me through the process quickly. I was checked in and sitting in the waiting room 15 min before my appointment. I also informed them I had another doctor's appointment back in Cary and was on a tight timeline. They assured me they would do all they could to help. Everyone I dealt with was great. There were some times of waiting (but that is to be expected at a busy Dr. office. I was in and out in about 1.5 hours. I met with Dr. H and she was awesome. Not only extremely knowledgeable but took time to ask good questions, answer mine, make me feel heard and understood. She gave me very clear guidelines of follow up care instructions. I am not one who likes going to the doctor but this was a pleasant experience that not only met but exceeded my expectations. I look forward to being back in the future.

I am being sent from one doctor there to the other back and forth with no satisfaction to my problem, I am starting to feel like a yoyo. Receptionist was also rude. Wish they could see through my eyes for just a day and feel the pain.

I have had three not very good experiences here. Technicians do all of your testing and the ophthalmologists don't really listen. I was dismissed a year ago with "dry eye" only to find out several months later that I had a brain tumor pressing on my optic nerve and it could have been caught sooner. Then upon my return after having surgery, they declined to do a test my neuro-ophthalmologist specifically requested. I will be finding another eye doctor.

Worst experience I have ever had in my 72 years. They did not address my problem, it took me 2 hours to rotate among waiting, tests, waiting, fellow came & typed onto computer, MD blew in the door, did not even look at my eyes, spent no more than 10 minutes, gave wrong diagnosis and couldn't wait to rush me out the door. Do not to here. It is horrible.

My first time going to this place was in December 2024 and the assistant Tanetta was awesome but the eye doctor herself Dr. Ali was terrible. She didn't listen to me as the patient kept telling me I was stressed my eye has fluid build up due to stress. I tried explaining to her that I am not the type of person who stresses but she continues to talk over me and ask me if I understand when there was nothing she said to understand. She rushed through the entire procedure and rambled until I finally said please can you stop talking and just listen to me as the patient I did not come all the way over and pay a copay for you to talk at me and not listen to my needs or concerns and first time ever not being able to see out of one eye this is scary for me thats my stress at this point. She sat there like she was clueless as to what I was asking which was only to listen and explain whats going on and stop stressing me about being stressed when I wasn't until she continued talking over me. Now I have an appointment this morning and I am seeing a doctor with a long last name but they said call her Dr. H hopefully she will listen and have some answers for me. I gave this place a 2 star because of Dr. Ali and her as it s called "bedside manners" but in this case I don't know what to call it possibly no manners unprofessional behavior or rude and not being respectful of her patients and the issue at hand. I would like to give Tanetta her 5 stars here !!!

I wouldn't recommend this place at all. While the staff were nice, the overall experience felt very commercial and lacked personalized care. I had my appointment on Thursday, 8/15/24, and spent almost 3 hours there, most of which were with assistants who repeatedly asked the same questions while running tests. When I finally saw the doctor, it was for less than 10 minutes, and by that point, I was too exhausted to ask any questions. The doctor didn't explain my diagnosis or provide details about my condition. He simply prescribed an eyedrop to replace one I was already taking. I left feeling confused and frustrated after all that time. To make matters worse, I never received the prescribed eyedrops because my insurance requires authorization from the doctor. When I called on Friday, 8/16/24, to speak with an assistant, the receptionist put me on hold for over 20 minutes, only to tell me to follow up with the pharmacy. I called again on Monday, 8/19/24, and was told they were "working on it" and again advised to follow up with the pharmacy. Despite the friendly staff, the lack of communication and care left me completely dissatisfied with my experience.

Were it possible to assign zero stars, I would contemplate such a rating. Despite scheduling an appointment three months in advance, upon arriving on the designated day, I discovered that my insurance was not accepted. Furthermore, the individual attending to me exhibited discourteous behavior, while the remaining receptionists appeared indifferent. If one desires treatment below the standards befitting a human being, this establishment may unfortunately suffice.
