Yesterday afternoon I showed up for my annual examination at the eyecare center here in Durham North Carolina.
I arrived early for my appointment at the front desk, where the staff promptly provided me with conveniently pre-filled forms. While completing the process, this welcoming staff connected with the warmth of a dear old friend, yet they were able to usher me into an exam room before my appointed time.
Dean, a very focused technical assistant, wasted no time in guiding me through a series of steps necessary to prepare me for the scheduled assessment.
My optometrist was Dr. J. Kallon, a gifted physician with a most reassuring and genuine smile, which gives us patients the confidence to know that we are sincerely appreciated and certainly in the right place.
A battery of tests consisted of the use of advanced technology, basic H&P and clinical exams for an accurate and comprehensive assessment. In my great comfort I asked several questions concerning the evaluation and my visual future. Dr. K maintaining her gracious poise shared clear and practical knowledge, corrected misinformation and misperceptions, and guided me with understanding concerning the waves of future advances.
This is the medical team that you want looking into your eyes. Their communication amongst themselves and with me was outstanding. They were efficient and cordial in every way. Thorough, professional, caring, knowledgeable and dedicated.They missed nothing.
Obviously, they exercise the Japanese philosophy of Kaizen - continuous, incremental improvement.
My family has used the eyecare center for many years. Unfortunately, the service has been going down for the last few years. I will be looking for a new place for the family. The Eyecare Center has become more interested in selling glasses and contacts instead of providing good eye care and customer service. I will continue wearing the contacts that have been good for my eyes for many years. Perhaps you cannot make a good profit on them. I do not care. You do not dictate what I can wear. Good Bye! By the way. You recommended my current contacts many years ago.
The Eye Care Center at Consultant Place is an excellent practice. The front/reception desk staff are friendly, efficient, and very helpful with regard to filing insurance and navigating the billing processes. Dr Sharon Barber is an excellent clinician. She is friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and listens attentively to your questions/concerns. The actual exams are thorough and the results are well-explained in an unhurried manner. I highly recommend this practice.
I have been going to this office for many years and have watched the customer service at the front desk deteriorate more with every interaction. I have always liked the doctors especially Dr Barbour. I had an appointment with her only to be told the day of the appointment that she would not be there that another doctor of their choosing would see me instead. I heard no apology, just a "deal with it" tone of voice. I refused as I did not like the short notice and off handedly choosing a new doctor for me. I found another OD at another practice and left a message to request my records. Someone left me a voicemail in response saying that they were sending my records to Dr Barbour which is NOT what I had requested. I called back to explain and spoke with someone named Na---? and she kept putting me on hold in the middle of my explaining my need. She showed no telephone etiquette nor professionalism. Never said, "please hold" and then when I tried again to explain she did it again! I had to repeat again what I was in the middle of saying when she cut me off. I asked her politely to not cut me off mid-sentence until I explained my self. She finally listened to what I needed and said I needed to sign a form which I expected, but I had not seen it in my email. I asked for more details about receiving my records and she started a rant about how they need to be compliant (which I a fully aware of) she then went on to give me a lecture about how she would not put up with an "attitude". Apparently it was totally lost on her that she was the first to display an "attitude " of being in a hurry, not listening, not apologizing for their error and poor communication and poor phone manners. She hung up on me when I was in the middle of asking how long it would take to get my records. Why is this person in customer service at all? Also I see many other Reviews saying the service at this practice has gone DOWN HILL for last few years and it has.
The staff were very helpful, the doctor was very kind, and the process was simple.
The employees at the front desk were above and beyond helpful, and the eye exam was thorough and well-explained. Finally learned why my current pair of glasses have always felt a little bit off! Highly recommend this place
Awful office. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Optometrists are okay if you need some relatively standard contacts. Office staff including the manager are simply awful. I could not get my contacts that I paid for upfront for two and a half months. I stopped by the office when I completely ran off my old contacts. The staff member was plainly rude. The manager tried to "fix" it by re-ordering my contacts and giving me lower prescription trials without consulting the doctor! After he re-order them (promised to call me when they arrive, which has never happened), nothing happened and three weeks later when I called, it turned out the order was not cancelled. I was lucky to speak with a corporate office representative Lindsey, who finally re-ordered my contacts, had them shipped to me overnight, and apologized. If not her, I would have never received my contacts. Will never ever, ever return to this office.
They have an excellent selection of eye glasses here for men, women and children, including sunglasses. The prices seem very reasonable. They accept most insurance plans, but even without insurance they have some good specials. Service was OK. I had to wait a really long time to be helped and they weren't very busy at all. I'd recommend this place, but plan extra time for your visit.
