Genuinely enjoyed Dr Dunn, and the front desk was welcoming and pleasant as the checkout staff was. The only item I noticed was that the office really could use a good cleaning, a lot of lights were out. The first impression when you walk in is the lack of cleanliness throughout the business.
Broke my glasses today at the beginning of my work shift. So I googled a nearby place and drove there, slowly, to see if I could get them repaired.
I pull up to the location and go inside, they're pretty busy but thats perfectly fine, I get helped IMMEDIATELY and ask the girl, who ive never seen before, if she could repair my glasses. Ive had these things for about 15 or 20 years, so its a pretty gruesome pair... but she instantly says absolutely, itll just take her some time.
I was in there for maybe 20 minutes... this wonderful woman cleaned them, replaced the underwire, added new nose pads, and straightened them out for me... for ZERO charge.
Im typing this after getting back to work, I didnt get the girls name but she had a red festive sweater on and grayish blueish eyes. I just wanted to say how pleased I am and you should give her a raise! Haha thanks again!
And I think... its time for some new glasses
I had the absolute best experience today at Carolina Family Vision.
Team: Nima Naik, O.D., Lisa, Rachel, Arleth, and Denise
Let me back up for a moment -- scheduling my appointment online was easy and convenient, with quick availability that fit my schedule (a weekday 5:10 PM appointment).
Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by Rachel, who was knowledgeable and courteous. I arrived at 4:45 PM for my 5:10 PM appointment and was already being roomed by 4:55 PM -- impressive efficiency.
Lisa was friendly and welcoming, and when the eye imaging equipment decided not to cooperate, she calmly grabbed reinforcements from Arleth. Both were patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely pleasant to talk with while we worked through my stubborn eyes together. Once in the exam room, Lisa also did an excellent job with my vision testing.
Now for the highlight: Nima Naik, O.D. was an absolute pleasure to work with -- warm, professional, and easy to talk to. I felt completely comfortable discussing my vision challenges, and she truly listened to my questions and concerns. She even brought in the office manager to help dig deeper into a few insurance coverage questions I had, which I really appreciated.
My appointment was to renew both my glasses and contact prescriptions. I have a high prescription (10+), and a coworker had mentioned medical-necessity insurance coverage for contacts -- turns out I qualified! I ended up ordering both contacts and a new pair of glasses.
After the exam, I met with Denise, who patiently walked me through my insurance (even when my explanation wasn't the clearest ) and helped me choose frames that fit my face and lifestyle -- including being toddler-proof for my 2-year-old who loves grabbing my glasses. She was attentive, empathetic, and genuinely kind, with excellent listening skills and thoughtful recommendations. She even pulled multiple frames for me to try, and Dr. Naik came back out to offer her input as well.
By this point it was already 6:00 PM, and the rest of the staff had gone home -- yet I never once felt rushed, even after offering to come back another day to finish choosing glasses. That level of care really stood out.
Overall: 10/10 experience. I highly recommend Carolina Family Vision and truly look forward to future visits.
(One small suggestion: a "Meet the Team" section on the website or social media would be amazing -- this staff deserves the spotlight!)

Started off very rocky and abrasive with front desk personnel regarding what is an optional fee or what is mandatory within insurance guidelines. Then there was an issue with my insurance although I had just spoken to my carrier the night before appointment. I had booked appointment through a third party and agreed that communication was poor. Ms. Denise ( office manager) and I did not start off on positive note, however, she went above and beyond in figuring out issues all while keeping my appointment and was able to rectify the faulty communication. She literally ROCKED....Dr. Dunn was fantastic, she was delightful and friendly, and unexpectedly humorous. She was thorough and very detailed in her communication regarding my vision issues. Patience, understanding and kindness won out, at what started could of ended negatively, it ended very positive, THANK you Ms. Denise and Dr. Dunn
This company's billing practices feel dishonest and extremely misleading. I was contacted the day before my appointment and told there would be a mandatory $50 charge that insurance would not cover -- something that was never disclosed when the appointment was scheduled.
That puts patients in a corner: either pay the surprise fee or cancel last minute after already taking time off and planning around the appointment. That's not transparency, that's pressure.
If this fee is mandatory, it should be clearly communicated up front, not dropped on people at the last second. This is a shady way to do business, and I would strongly recommend asking about all out-of-pocket costs before booking with this office.
If you have very specific vision needs? Keep on moving. I am a photographer. Fine focus is part of my daily routine. I work with lenses everyday. When I'm choosing lenses for my eyes I'm very picky. I won't mention the Dr's name, because I believe it's more about allotted time than attitude, but during my last two exams we got to a point where choices were stopped being given and we were "done"! And unless technology has greatly changed and they can measure close-up vision by having you look far away? That was never checked, AND THAT WAS MY CHIEF CONCERN!
When I tried to explain where my problems were, with a real world example, the Dr proceeded to try explain my own equipment to me! LOL! Freaking Dr's - you know what you do but you don't know everything. Shut your mouth and open your ears. You'll keep more patients. That was my last trip to that office.
I just picked up my glasses and they were perfect. No adjustments, ready in a week, perfect prescription. Last year, I went to a big box optometrist went through hell getting my pretty basic progressive lens prescription right. After (6) visits they got my glasses and sunglasses close enough to accept. I've lived with those glasses for over a year. This set from Carolina Family showed how bad my previous prescription was. I cannot recommend them enough and will be back again next year.
I took my business to Carolina Family Vision, I had a pair of RayBan Gatsby frames that they no longer sell. The shop had me sign a document stating that if the frames were damaged the lab was not responsible. Well it was either sign the release of liability document or they would refuse to take my business. I signed the document knowing it does not release them from negligence or carelessness. I got a call saying that my frames had been cracked and I would need to get new frames. I am enclosing a picture of the frames that I asked to be returned. They weren't cracked they were broken completely through on the left side. The shops only response was "You signed the waiver." Their attitude was that they had no responsibility to try and make the situation right or even try to expedite my new frames so I could get my new prescription and stop having headaches from wearing old glasses. I will never go back to this shop nor ever recommend them to anyone other than to say stay away.
The damage you see is caused by carelessness in fitting the new lenses into the frame, trying to force a lenses that hasn't been properly shaped for the frame. I should take these to the engineering lab at Duke and do material testing on them to see how much pressure it would take to break the other side of the frame but I just don't think it would matter to these people or the lab. They really showed me they don't care.
