Experienced experts at Wilmington Eye with excellent measurements, and equipment. Dr. Richard Ayuso is a great doctor. A very down to earth man who explains things on my level, and has great bedside manners. I feel confident in placing my vision in his hands. The whole staff is great too. I only wish that they could cut down the lights in the waiting area. I know that they fill prescription glasses, but the light is florescent. Fluorescent light has chunks of the light spectrum missing. I was a custom darkroom technician for over twenty-five years. Filters can't correct fluorescent light. Pictures turn out as a sickly green color. My eyes must be sensitive. I have to wear sunglasses in the waiting area, and an haunted by the color of the lights. Just a minor suggestion that will probably never be addressed, but I just had to say.

Dr.Ayuso was outstanding. However, the reason I use Wilmington Eye is because John Owen is the best Optical Technician in the Eastern US. I have worn glasses since I was a third grader in the early 70s, and I have worn Silhouette frames for about 20 years. John is simply the best Optical Tech I've ever experienced with these frames. I drive a hour to get there and he's worth it. Perfectly repairs and adjusts my old frames when needed and is an excellent consultant when selecting new Silhouette frame and lens combinations. I had what I felt were emergency eye symptoms on a Saturday and the office got me in right away. My team Dr Ayuso, nurse Julia and nurse Zyaire were absolutely amazing. I arrived with pure anxiety & fear and was instantly calmed by Zyaire. She was so sweet, & calming. Thereafter I received wonderful care from Dr. Ayuso, assisted by his nurse Julia. Dr. Ayuso immediately diagnosed me, calmed me, and answered each and every question I had. He is such a kind, caring doctor. Nurse Julia followed up by making sure I was set up with my next appointment and again answered any concern I had in a gentle calm manner. I am so happy I found Dr Ayuso & his team. Thank you to all three of you!

About Dr. Richard Ayuso, OD
Richard Ayuso, OD has been a practicing optometrist since 1983. Originally from Staten Island, New York, he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Fairfield University in Connecticut. He received his optometry degree from the State University of New York College of Optometry in Manhattan. After graduation he was commissioned a Captain in the U.S. Army where he served four years with duty assignments at the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, West Germany and Raider Army Medical Clinic in Fort Myer, Virginia. Upon separation from the Army, Dr. Ayuso worked in various clinics around Northern Virginia before relocating to Jacksonville, North Carolina where he practiced for 28 years before joining Wilmington Eye.
