Having dealt with visual impairment for years, and several Ophthalmologists, I rate Dr. Kumar in the top 2! The other one retired some years ago. Dr Kumar is skillful, knowledgeable, and caring. I am that patient who gets tense before/during doctor appointments, and she has a way of putting me at ease. She listens to my concerns and gives me honest answers and opinions. She greets me with a big smile every visit! Her staff is mannerable, patient, and efficient. I have received great care under Dr. Kumar. (Alberta Harris)

Dr.Kumar and her assistant were terrific! Calmed my anxiety about the eye surgery. Clinically astute and compassionate. The lady who examined my eyes initially was not friendly at all! Could tell she hates her job. No affect and very robot like. Does not belong in healthcare!

Ridiculous how long our appointment took!
Appointment was at 1:15. We arrived promptly and did not leave until 5:15. Actual time with eye doctor was less than 5 minutes.
Dr. Kumar seemed knowledgeable and kind. Everything else about the appointment was terrible.

My visit with Dr Kumar and staff was very positive. It went like clock work. Granted she is very busy but she does an excellent job in explaining what's going on with your eyes. If your appointment is a set time you have to be on time in order to be seen in reasonable time.

Dr Kumar is great, but the wait time is excessive. Waiting an hour before seeing the doctor is too long. I also notice that patients have to walk from one end of the building to another room for various procedures. For patients on oxygen or those who have difficulty walking, this is very challenging. The majority of the patients are elderly so it may benefit them if you can reduce the distance they have to cover.

When I finally saw Dr. Kumar, she was very good, but what you have to tolerate with the rest of the organization that supports her is disappointing. CEI is so huge you feel like a cow being herded in a stockyard. Some doctor (med student?) did part of my exam rather haphazardly and gave me conflicting information from what Dr. Kumar did. It would have been nice to know exactly who and what she was. If she had shared she was a med student doing her clinical rotation, I would have been understanding. Then off to the scheduler who couldn't confirm my surgery appointment until I had my H&P completed. Jumped through hoops to get it done quickly and now trying to confirm she received the H&P, but the scheduler hasn't answered her phone and her mailbox is full. Have tried over three days to contact her. The lack of personalized care is so obvious here.

Alisha Gandhi Kumar, M.D., is a member of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. During her senior year at The Miami Valley School, she was accepted into University of Cincinnati College of Medicine through the Connections Dual Admissions (BS/MD) Program. She graduated summa cum laude with Honors from University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, where she majored in Biology and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She then attained her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kumar completed her ophthalmology residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, where she also served as Chief Resident in her final year.
