I'd give less stars honestly if I didn't like Dr. Jonhston so much...but unfortunately I don't like anyone enough to deal with this office. I followed my doctor to this place and have had one appointment which was great but when it came to picking frames they had none that would fit me as I am more on the petite side. I was able to purchase my frames from another eye care clinic but didn't even think about the fact that by doing so I have no warranty now on my frames. By the time I realized that detail it was already too late as I had used my insurance benefit for my exam and would have to pay out of pocket for another doctor's exam to get my glasses from a different place. Here's the big upset for me. When my frames were shipped I took them in to order my lenses as well as two packs of colored contacts and paid CASH for these items. I was advised that my frames and contacts would be in at the same time so when my glasses came back pretty quickly (about a week after they were ordered) but not my contacts I wasn't too worried about it at first as I was originally told 5-7 business days but then once we hit that time frame I called the office to follow-up. I was transferred to three different people who all told me that they didn't see my order for my contacts before I was finally asked who took my order and placed me back on hold. Finally the gal who actually helped me got on the line and said that yes, I did in fact order contacts but that she didn't order them correctly and the transaction never went through. Entirely unimpressed and having ZERO intentions on giving them ay more of my money I told her to cancel the transaction and refund my money. It just shouldn't be so hard to get contacts order or ordered correctly. I'll be picking up my refund check from them and unfortunately finding a new optometrist. Preferably one that uses the Marlo platform so I can effortlessly order my contacts by myself.
My son was scheduled for an eye appointment at 1 pm. We showed up at 1 pm at their old location near Winco. (I was not informed that they had moved even though both my husband and I are patients here.) I saw that the building was empty and called them and let them know the situation. They said to go ahead and drive to their new location, and they would inform the staff that we would be late. When we arrived, they refused to see us because we were late... even after I explained that their staff told me to come in. I explained that I had arranged a babysitter for my other three children so I could get to this appointment but they still wouldn't see me. I appreciate Dr. Johnson's expertise, but this situation was poorly handled.
My Honest Experience - Great People, But a Delay That Needs Fixing (3 Stars)
So, I hadn't been to an eye doctor in about 20 years. Lately, I noticed I was having a hard time seeing things up close, so I figured it was finally time to get my eyes checked. It took about a month to get an appointment, but I showed up 10 minutes early on the day of and was called back about 10 minutes after my appointment time.
The tech who helped me first was super friendly. She went through all the usual questions and took pictures of my eyes. After that, she led me to an exam room, where I waited for maybe five minutes before the doctor came in. The doctor was great--he ran through all the tests and showed me just how bad my vision actually was. Eye-opening, literally.
Right after the exam, I was brought to the wall of glasses. Honestly, I was overwhelmed. I didn't really know what I needed, so I ended up choosing cheap frames and just getting readers. That night, I was talking with my wife--who's also basically my common-sense coach--and she asked why I didn't get prescription glasses for distance too. I fly RC planes and love long-distance shooting, so yeah... kind of important. I hadn't put two and two together until she pointed it out. This is why I need her.
The next day, I called the office hoping to cancel or update my order. I explained the situation to the front desk, and she told me the glasses were already made overnight and I should have received a text--though I hadn't. Five minutes later, I got the text. She recommended I talk to someone in person when I came to pick up the readers.
That evening after work, I stopped by and was helped by one of the nicest people I've met in customer service. I explained everything again, expecting to just pay out of pocket for a second pair since my insurance was already used. She encouraged me to take my time choosing frames, and after about 30 minutes (I'm picky about sunglasses, especially since I need them to darken outside), I found a pair I liked.
She sat down with me and helped build the order. I ended up paying $360 total:
$99 for the readers
$49 deductible
$212 for the distance prescription glasses with photochromic lenses and anti-glare coating
Honestly, not bad at all considering what I would've paid without insurance. The staff were awesome every step of the way.
So why only 3 stars?
The delay.
I was told it would take up to 10 days. The glasses were ordered on the 2nd, and now it's the 15th. I've called and texted and received conflicting answers. One person told me they'd be ready by the 15th. Then I got a text saying:
"Good afternoon, we called the lab and it looks like there was a lab error. They are expediting your job and we will let you know as soon as we get it in."
Wait... what? I asked if this kind of delay was normal, especially since this was my first time doing this and I paid a good chunk of money. The reply was:
"At times our labs do take longer than expected, we apologize for the inconvenience. We will give you updates as we get them as well."
But... I still have no real answer. No firm ETA. I get that it may be out of their hands, and the people at the office have been absolutely great--but I just want to know when I'll get what I paid for.
If the glasses come in soon and everything works as expected, I'll definitely come back and update this review. The service was top-notch. I just hope the follow-through matches.
Claire Horn Eyecare is the first office to provide me with fast, easy, simple, and courteous service.
The pair of glasses I have is a new online purchase.
When you purchase glasses online, you're bound to need more proper support, which includes adjusting the glasses to fit your face.
I visited this office to do just that. I went in and asked for an adjustment, and the person at the front asked what the issue was. They checked the back of the glasses on my head, adjusting accordingly. The glasses fit nicely now!
I'm pleased because other offices interrogate, practice their marketing, and generally make me uncomfortable. Thank you, Clair Horn Eyecare!
I've been going here for years. All staff are friendly, helpful and generally awesome.
Clair-Horn Eyecare is exceptional. The staff is friendly, accommodating and professional. Dr. Clair-Horn is an expert at what she does and is easy to work with. Every interaction from scheduling and rescheduling my yearly exam, to my visit, picking out frames, and pick-up has been excellent. It's a pleasure dealing with professionals that genuinely care and enjoy what they do. I have used them for the previous three years for my annual eye exams and will likely not go anywhere else. Highly recommended!
Great customer service. Stands behind their work and customer satisfaction. Michelle the Office Manager is very knowledgeable and courteous. Great asset. If ever a bump in the road...she is quick to address and works with you. Shayla, Whitney and Alisha also a great asset = very knowledgeable.
Been going to Dr. Jackie for years...hence the 5 STAR rating for this establishment.
Everyone at the office is amazing. The experience with the doctors is fast and efficient, yet accurate. My wife and I have had some issues with the ordering process(namely the lab.) The staff, especially Shayla were always attentive, available, and ready to advocate for what is best when it came to our glasses. It has been a work in progress ( not Clair-Horn's fault) and they have taken full responsibility and continually make it right. We will be coming back for sure!
