Dr. Schwartz was the only eye doc in Lancaster that could figure out a solution for my sons " weak eye." He would get prescriptions in other practices, and I was told he just needs eye therapy. His eyes always hurt after putting his new script on. We needed a "now" solution because of being the age to need to read. After getting a prism with bifocals , he finally loves to read! Eye therapy will be apart of his treatment, but its good he loves to read at the present moment. He and his staff are a blessing! Thank you!
Today I heard an assistant talk to a patient in a room on my right side, walk to the room on my left and immediately start laughing at and mocking this patient for things he said. She only stopped when I said from my room, "The walls are thin here." Last week, something similar happened, so I wonder if it's just common at this office. I asked to speak to someone about it today, and the doctor said, "Well did you hear any personal information about this patient?" and, "Offices are allowed to have thin walls." I'm disappointed the doctor became defensive about if it's legal or not, instead of seeing how unprofessional it is. It's bad enough that you can hear other's answers during the intake questions (the office is in an old home - very thin walls), but it's so uncomfortable hearing staff laugh at patients both times I've been there in the past week.
Update: Update: Dr. Schwartz sent a letter to my home telling me that his staff likes to joke and that I should hear a whole story "before making rash assumptions." Had the staff been just joking, Dr. Schwartz would have told me that when I spoke to him in his office, instead of just saying that what I heard wasn't illegal. He didn't pretend it was a joke that day because he knew I had just heard his staff being so rude. An elderly man had been upset, the staff member went to another room after speaking to him and started mocking what he said. If there was a joke, the patient was not in on it. I heard the whole thing because the walls are truly that thin. My vision is bad, my hearing is not. The letter sent to my home was a sad defense of the unprofessional behavior the doctor knows I witnessed. It's also clear from the rest of the reviews that people don't seem to find the staff as funny as Dr. Schwartz does.
Visited 2 years in a row. First year was fine, got a full exam. 2nd year, Dr. was upset that he couldn't dilate my eyes (I have a heavy contact prescription and didn't have glasses with me). I read 3 lines using each eye, did not remove my contacts for a full exam and now am fully regretting NOT advocating more for myself. Now that it is getting darker later and I'm driving in "at night" my astigmatism has clearly gotten worse and was not checked. Now I'm stuck for another 8 months with these contacts unless I pay out of pocket for a new exam and separate glasses to correct (which would be cheaper than my contacts). I spent 40 minutes in this office without a FULL eye exam. Do not recommend.
My husband has been going to this office since he was a kid. We now go as a family. We have always had a positive experience regarding my husband and children. Everyone is so kind and wonderful with our children. The one receptionist "G" is not quite as friendly as the other staff. I typically will wait to speak to someone else when she answers the phone. Other than her; we love Dr. Schwartz.
EDIT: 2 years later and "G" is still at this practice. Anytime we call to schedule an appointment she makes it difficult to obtain an appointment. Unfortunately we will be taking our business elsewhere.
Like other reviewers, I experienced incredible rudeness from the office staff. The doctor is nice but the ladies working in the office are maddening to deal with. Additionally, the office smelled musty and was very old. It is basically a small house rather than an office. I didn't really like the way patients are rotated in and out of the back either. Patients move around a lot and the appointments take a long time. The doctor spends very limited time with patients and has other staff do as much as possible before he pops in quickly.
If some new staff would be brought in, the practice could improve by a substantial amount with much happier clients. I can imagine that Dr. Schwartz has worked with some of the ladies a very long time now and it might be really hard to see that their attitudes affect business but these reviews speak for themselves.
I would NOT recommend this practice. We were patients of this practice for many years and the DR has allowed the office staff to ruin his office and reputation. Dr Schwartz is a wonderful doctor, but sadly you might see him for 10 min and the rest you have to deal with the staff. They are rude, overpriced and don't care if they tell the whole waiting room all your personal information. The location on Highland View Dr is a little house not a office so there is not much patient privacy. Read the reviews online everywhere this office is not worth the hassle. If the doctor cared enough about his practice he would get rid of his rude staff or send them to anger management. They will also try getting more money from you for billing your vision, and medical and attempt to make you pay additional hundreds of dollars.
Dr. Schwartz was great but I stopped going here because of the office staff. You also needed to take half a day off of work because they would put drops in your eyes and then sit you in the waiting room for a ridiculous amount of time. Your time clearly means nothing to them. My whole family has moved on.
I went there in 2009, first time, then again a few years later. Went elsewhere a few years ago, and just went back there today. I will go back again. The staff is excellent, they took their time and let me pick glasses before the eye drops, listened to my concerns. I walked away feeling very confident and excited for my new glasses, in two weeks I'll post how they are.
