Honest Eyes

Went there on a friend's recommendation. Decent experience initially--I liked the frames I purchased. Taralee kept saying were great examples of "German engineering," although my "one of a kind" frames were made in China. After wearing them for a few days, though, things weren't right with the glare and anti-scratch coatings, which began to to change colors and wear off in spots. So Taralee sent them back to the lab, which redid them. They seemed OK. But as time passed, my lenses got noticeably worse. It happened slowly, and my eyesight's terrible--so I thought it "was me," until I noticed this same coating stuff coming off, worse this time. And I'd absolutely BABIED these glasses. By the time I got back in touch with Ms. Berkheiser, I was a few days beyond the warrantee (my bad). She requested that I bring them in so she could send them out to the lab for evaluation; since I can't be without them, I took a couple of pics that show the flaws, worse than before (included here) The windup is she told me that the lab said "nothing is wrong with them," (surprise!) and offered to replace these 3-yr-old lenses for $400. This time, she promised to send them to "the better lab." No thanks. I would not want another set of these inferior lenses made by another shoddy lab for any price. In over 50 years wearing glasses, I NEVER had a similar problem. I am happy to say that I'm delighted with the new, reputable, optical shop I've found, so this experience has been a blessing in disguise. My new specs are beautiful, and come from a recognized, quality European designer (not an an odd, off-brand made in China). The lens coatings are wonderful, and the transition lenses clear, bright, and seamless. Pricing is straightforward and reasonable (and accepts my insurance).

Wow, talk about a women who knows her stuff! Honest Eyes was by far the best optical experience I ever had!! I have worn glasses for 44 years and in that time, have never had a better experience purchasing glasses! I was instantly fitted to a pair of glasses that not only fit my face, but my personality! I was pegged as I walked in the door and had a short conversation with the owner. Then to top it off-icing on the cake-they were less then 1/2 of what I normally paid!! I am now the coolest kid on the block!! Everyone asks me where I got my "original" glasses, and when I tell them, Honest Eyes" they are next to get an appointment. Not only is Honest Eyes professional to work with, but dedicated to make you look good and at a price anyone can afford. I will never go anywhere else, and neither will all of my friends, family and --total strangers, who commented on my glasses. Thank you Honest Eyes!!

I have NEVER had such a wonderful experience choosing new eyeglasses as I had at Honest Eyes!!! Tara Lee spent 1 1/2 hours with me and I learned so much, as well as getting two pairs of glasses that are absolutely perfect for me. I will spread the word on her awesome customer service and great prices and will never go anywhere else. Thanks!!!!

I always feel so overwhelmed when shopping for glasses at the big chains. Everything seems the same, you feel like you're being hovered over by someone who is more about making a sale than helping you find something you like. Everything you try on "looks great" even if you're skeptical. At Honest Eyes it's a different experience. They help you find frames based on who you are. Sitting down on a one-to-one basis with someone who has years of experience fitting people for eyeware is a great experience. I've owner several frames from Honest Eyes over the last few years and I will no longer shop anywhere else for glasses. If you haven't checked them out I suggest you do, you won't be disappointed!

I loved getting glasses from Taralee. The whole experience is very personal yet still professional. She listened to what I had in mind and then suggested some frames. We worked together to find the perfect frames and the price was much less than I paid for my last pair of progressive lenses a few years ago. I am always getting compliments on them. Thanks Taralee!

I can't say I've ever had a bad experience here. I've gotten glasses for myself, my wife got two pair, and we picked up a pair for our daughter, all at different times. I loved the fact that they took the time to get to know me. I was asked about what what I liked and didn't like about my old glasses as well as what kind of look I wanted to portray in the next pair. It actually helps that I needed to make appointments. It helped me pick out the glasses I wanted, not the ones I could quickly point to on my lunch break. No doubt I'll be heading back.

Out of this world customer service! Had recently damaged my frames and saw the sign and pulled in on a whim. Taralee assessed the situation of my frames, listened and totally put them to rights. She refused payment but made me feel like I was a paying customer and told me to call/text if I needed further adjustment. Who does that?! So incredibly impressed and feeling comfortable in my, good as new, glasses. Would be coming back if I wasn't from out of state.

Here's the thing about "Honest Eyes", sadly, like so many businesses in Lancaster, it's a vanity business, a pet project. The woman who started it is married to a well to do Hershey exec and took online courses four years ago to "learn" the business. She has no experience or education otherwise. She says she sold glass out of the trunk of her car to keep costs low and, conveniently, no storefront to also keep costs low. It also allows her to work when she wants, not when you need something. Need something? Call for an appointment. The advantage of a regular store is, it has regular hours is open for business and can help you when they are open. By Appointment Only? Not so much. The "low profit" frames she sells are mostly remainders, discontinued glasses she buys up cheap so, yes, she can make a huge margin even at her low prices. Having no experience in the business, she's buying what she thinks is pretty, not what is well made, at least not intentionally. For the eleven years I've been here I've been the customer of another company and what irritates me about "Honest Eyes" starts from the name, implying other business owners who have devoted their lives to working and building a business here are not forthright. It's especially galling coming from a part time wanna be business opwner who works whenever she wants to. Hence this review. There's no doubt Honest Eyes sell glasses cheap. Cheaper than other places? Maybe. Quality stuff? Maybe, maybe not, depends on how lucky you are. Do you know frame manufacturers well? Then you're depending on luck. What if the owner gets bored with this enterprise and decides it's too much work, with little invested, she can do that. It's her right. It's just not the best way to run a business. If you do business with Honest Eyes just know the whole story, not the one publicists like to tell.
