Great Local Eye Doctor! I've been going to Dr. Oxenberg for 20 years now and I've always been very pleased with the level of knowledge and professionalism. I've always gotten great service from the folks working in the office and from the doctor. Anytime I've had questions, Dr. Oxenberg has always explained things in a way that I can easily understand. They have their own parking out back as well which is nice since it's a downtown location.
I had to switch care providers after not having coverage for awhile, and was nervous about it. My first appointment put me at ease! While I will admit you wait the typical doctor appointment wait time most times (10-15 mins), I am delighted by the staff and Dr Oxenberg as well as the service I have been given! I don't feel the frames are expensive as a cheapskate myself- I was amazed the brands on the "lower shelf" actually compared to my previous doctor. Would recommend all around!
This will be my last time at this office. The receptionist is nice but the doctor is terrible. He kept worrying about my son touching stuff. That's understandable but he's 12 & wasn't doing anything. Also he said my son couldn't have a field test because he didn't feel like his "mental capacity" would let him. My son is autistic not dumb!!!
I have received eye care from Dr. Oxenberg for over 10 years now, and all I can say is he is a good as it gets; best there is. He is a great professional, but on top of all, an extraordinary human being. I would definitely recommend anybody to choose him as a specialist for their vision care.
I recently relocated about a year ago from Orlando, FL to Lancaster, PA. Let's just say it's been a challenge to find a decent eye doctor in the area. This past weekend I had an eye emergency and Dr. Oxenbergs office was one of few I haven't tried yet. I called and spoke with the on call Dr. Oxenberg. Without hesitation he immediately stated he would meet me in his office in ten mins. Remember this was a weekend on which he was suppose to be off. Anyways I met with the doctor and he helped to figure out what was going on and get a treatment plan in place. He was respectful, kind, informative, and very caring. I will definetly continue to be using his office.
The doctor was extremely rude to me. It was my first time going to him and I had my one year old with me. She was quiet and calm the entire time, not once did she reach for anything or make a fuss. When the doctor came out to bring me back to do the exam, he didnt even greet me, just stared at me and asked me repeatedly why I didn't have someone to watch my child. I told him my family lives out of town, my husband is working, and we are not seeing friends until the Covid-19 situation is over. He kept telling me that this really "was not ideal", so I offered to reschedule another day when someone could watch my child. He ignored my offer, though I made it three times. After almost ten minutes of this, he finally took me back to do my exam, and he spent less than three minutes in the exam room with me. He took my glasses and had his assistant use them to measure my prescription, which I have never in my 24 years of wearing glasses had an eye doctor do, and then asked me what my prescription was. He then brought me back up front and had the receptionist order me contacts without having me try any to make sure the prescription and lenses worked for me. I have been wearing contacts for over 20 years and again, have never had an eye doctor not had me try on a trial pair of lenses when getting new lenses or a new prescription. They gave me no checkout paperwork, no visit summary, no prescription, just an order to leave through the back door. I have never had a worse experience with any healthcare professional.
The doctor himself is very friendly and professional, and I have no complaints about the eye exam. I would recommend going to him for your prescription and then getting a copy to have it filled online. The frames there are overpriced and many are of poor quality. There is a warranty on the frames, but that doesn't help you if the replacements keep breaking (as ours did); the warranty is only good from the date of the original purchase.
We won't be back. The staff I spoke to on the phone and at the checkout/reception desk were courteous, as was the optician when attempting to pick out glasses for my 6 year old. The doctor however is what made my decision to not go back. This was the first time I had ever been at an eye doctor with my child and he explained nothing to me or to him. He seemed more concerned with ensuring that my 2 year old didn't touch anything (understandable, however I was keeping a close watch on him). I felt that he was not thorough in the actual eye exam and he never explained when my child would need to wear his new glasses. Mentioned that he wouldn't need them 100% of the time, but didn't explain what that meant. We were rushed out of the exam room and I was completely at a loss. Took my prescription and left.
