Vanderbilt Eye Institute Hendersonville

So incredibly impressed by this office and staff! My 16 month old had an appointment. We checked in quickly and waited maybe 5-10 minutes before being brought back. There were kids books and a kids show playing in the waiting room. The initial tests were done by the sweetest lady who used stickers, stuffed animals, and a kids show to get all the things she needed! She was so patient and kind with my daughter and we managed it with no tears even with the eye drops! We had to wait about 15-20 minutes for the drops to work in the waiting room, which was the hardest part. After that we were taken to another room for a quick test (again such a great kid friendly staff) and then waited another 5-10 minutes for the Doctor. Dr. Reddy was calm, kind, and quick! He did the tests he needed, talked me through everything, made sure I didn't have any questions, and reassured me. Seriously such an amazing experience, I highly recommend if you need to take kids (especially younger ones)!

My son is 21 months and I was scared it was going to be nothing but crying because he does not take well with strangers..... but wow Ashley was absolutely amazing she was so nice and took her time. She made it like play time and he loved it. Dr. Hunter explained everything and was fast with exam.

Let me start off by saying that I am a pretty reasonable person. Sometimes when I have to wait longer than usual I am a little irritated however I am always understanding. Today, was the WORST doctors visit that I have EVER experienced. My appointment was at 9:10am. I arrived at 9:00am. I did not see Dr. Mattingly until 11:55am. Instead of coming in and apologizing, he said, "Let's get you on with your day, I heard you have children to attend to." As if that wasn't the rudest way to handle the situation he then sits and recommends another facility that might be suitable for my needs. How about you not take so many appointments in one day where your patients have to wait so long. I have never been so flabbergasted in my life. I don't think anyone should have to wait 3hrs for an exam especially considering that they were early for their appointment. I would not recommend him to anyone unless you have 3 hours of your life that you can waste and never get back. I mean a simple apology goes a long way.

Came in for a normal eye exam 3/6 before I got kicked off my parent's insurance plan. Upon walking in there, and walking to the front to check in, I immediately felt like a bother as the front desk woman was not pleasant nor did she act like she cared. I felt like I was a burden for even having an appointment there. Next, they called me back and did my exam which was a NORMAL eye exam that my insurance covered, but they charged me as a medical eye exam because at the end I explained, because the doctor asked, have I had any problems and she told me she believes it was ocular migraine after I explained what was going on. I called my insurance company about the price and to my surprise they didn't even run it through insurance, which they stated they submitted to them. We called the eye institute multiple times, and they treated us horribly and did not want to submit it to the insurance company, nor work with us when we explained it was a normal eye exam. We finally gave the insurance company a call and had them call the eye institute, because after talking to 4 different people, they still wouldn't listen to us. Insuranc company called back and said that it was taking care of, but to my surprise they want to still charge me the entire price, probably because they don't want to resubmit it to insurance which probably isn't that hard. Terrible place, terrible employees. The only reason for 2 stars is because the doctor and nurse that conducted the eye exam treated me better than the front. I will never be affiliated with Vanderbilt eye institute again! They will never work with you and I am fighting this charge since my insurance personally called me and told me it was taken care of.

I had an excellent visit with my 15 month today. Dr. Reddy and the team were very sweet with my daughter who was clearly nervous about the exam. We arrived early and completed paperwork in advance. That seemed to help speed up the waiting process. Thanks for a nice experience. TIP: there is a Starbucks next door. :)

I will never come here again. My appt was set for 1 pm. I was taken back at around 1:05 pm thinking this would be fast. The nurse was nice and performed the tests I needed. Then the waiting began. I was told there were a couple of people in front of me to see the doctor. No problem or so I thought. I waited for 2 solid hours before the nurse came in and apologized. She proceeded to tell me that there were only one or two people ahead of me and that they had to "space my appointments out". Zero clue what she meant by that. There were one or two people ahead of me 2 hours prior. Either this doctor is the most sought after doctor in the history of ophthalmology or they have a serious issue with scheduling. Either way, I will never set foot here again. As of this writing I am still waiting. Over 2 hours now.

Dr. Reddy gave excellent care to my one-year-old son as well as direct, thorough, and kind explanations to my husband and myself. We did not feel rushed. Hannah, the tech, was especially good with my son. She was very fun and gentle while doing her job and my son felt very at-ease. Kami at the front desk was doing the jobs of about three people it seemed, and was still so polite and affable. We felt genuine care from everyone here and the standard of medical care by the staff was superb.

Horrible experience. I specifically asked when I made the appointment to see Dr. Rust in Hendersonville if a face shield was acceptable instead of a mask, that I pass out after a while of wearing a mask. He put me on hold to check and came back and said the shield was acceptable. I got to my appointment and was checked in and was sitting in the chair with the nurse. After she finished checking me out she came back and told me the doctor could not see me due to the shield. I had already told them about the pain in my eye and the problems I was having. She told me that didn't matter, she was sorry, I would not be seen by the doctor. I even offered to wear the mask while examined by the doctor, then put the shield back on afterwards. She said no. She blamed it on the call center. It's not the call center's fault. He checked. It's administration or lack thereof. They sure didn't bother to send my an email or phone call about their changes. I drove 45minutes to go there to get an earlier appointment due to the pain in my eye. Do you think they cared?? Absolutely not.
