Costco Optical Department

I have been to a lot of optical shops here in Austin. This was one of the best experiences I've had. I went to the in-house optician, got my prescription in 20 minutes and went next door to the optical center. After trying on a few pairs, a technician named Simone helped fit my glasses. This was the most thorough and helpful fitting I've had in 25 years of wearing glasses. I got two pairs of regular glasses and two pairs of sunglasses. Simone did such an amazing job making sure they were perfect. She even pointed out when a style I had chosen was a little tight and got a similar style that looked even better. Kudos.

I didn't need a lot of customer service. There's Covid going on so I wanted to get in and out quick. I picked a pair of frames, the optician took some measurements, ten days later I had a nice pair of glasses. About six weeks later this nice pair of glasses ended up mixed in with a lot of dead brush in the back of a pickup truck. Scratches ensued. Since it was such a short time they gave me a one-time complimentary replacement. I was flabbergasted. Amazed. Super happy!

I bought a pair of prescription glasses here. When I received them a week later they were 50% thicker than expected. I was my fault for not checking that Costco refractive index is 1.64 while my previous prescription needed 1.74 to not be as thick. I wish the salesperson had pointed that out before making the sale. I asked for a refund and received it without much of an issue.

Used to be my go to place for corrective lenses, but after this last experience getting a new pair of glasses here, I don't know that I'll be using them again. Waited my turn to get my glasses and contacts, was handed said items and instantly the "employee" went to help someone else without asking a single question as to: how they feel, if I had any questions, etc... Waited 5-10 minutes patiently before the other staff member came over to "check on me", and received pretty much same treatment from her. Couldn't answer my questions, and didn't give a damn about fit. Bottom line, step your game back up Costco optical.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Kyle at Costco vision center! My glasses were all wonky, and fell off my face constantly. Kyle took the time to check them out and use their specialty tools to reshape the frames and adjust to ear bends (Technical jargon?).. I WILL definitely be returning for my next new pair of glasses! Thank you Kyle!

Some staff are nice and helpful, but very limited options for frames. Next time I will drive to Pflugerville.

They manufactured the lenses incorrectly on my wife's glasses. Only to insist that it was her fault for not coming back to them sooner. Arnold who refuses to say his last name also refuses to acknowledge his mistake. Somehow the wear of the glasses is supposed to be responsible for the manufacturing according to him. No apology. No replacement of the faulty lenses. This place is a fraud!

I had two pairs of glasses made at the Costco in South Austin in March 2021, both with progressive lenses, and was unable to drive with either one because of what looked like waves within the lense. Upon close inspection of the lenses, one can actually see the defect in the lense material. I have had six pairs of glasses made at a Costco in the Houston area in the past that did not have this problem and I am back to wearing some of those until I can find a different optician. Until they find a solution to their lense manufacturing problem, I do not recommend getting progressive lenses made at Costco
