I want to thank Dr. Shannon Wong for such a great job on my cataract surgery. I just had my right eye done last week and it's fantastic. I was kind of nervous going in, and when his staff came in to talk to me just before the surgery it made me feel very at ease and the surgery went great. I woke up the next morning and couldn't believe the difference. I went into the washroom with my fiancee the next day after the surgery, and I looked at the colors on the Tide bottle above the washing machine. The label was SO purple, the Tide was so orange. The very next day,I drove myself for the follow up appointment. They checked my eye thoroughly and now I can read that chart. My right eye is now 20/30 where as before with the cataract, the vision in my right eye was 100% obscured with the cataract. If you're doing this, it's a good thing to do. I have been a patient of Austin Eye for almost 20 years. Many visits, artificial lenses, etc, I went back for a retina procedure which was needed. I was NOT told that they did not do retina work. I made an appt. a couple of weeks ago for the procedure. Dr. Shannon finally came in and asked what I was there for. I told him that I was ready for the procedure that I needed. He very loudly said that they don't do retinas. That is what I came to be done. I was NEVER told by any of his assistants that they don't do that. I have had more than one procedure ( artificial lenses, etc) done before. Instead of apologizing , he came right up to my face and said.."WE DON'T DO RETINAS". ..several times. I was shocked. He was mad...no doubt about it. I had a friend with me for travel back home, and she was just shocked. A couple of his assistants were present also and they would vouch for this. (if they dared) I have dealt with his dad, Dr. Mitchel Wong in past years and was treated very good. After 20 years of business with them, I will never go back. PS. Exceptional Experience with Dr. Shannon Wong I had my pre-op cataract surgery and premium lens replacement consultation with Dr. Shannon Wong this morning, and it was outstanding. He was thorough, clear, and genuinely caring, taking time to explain every detail and answer every question. Dr Wong's office and staff from the minute you make your appointment to checking out at the end of my appointment were very professional, kind, knowledgeable and patient. The office is beautiful with a Zen atmosphere for the most comfortable visit. Dr Wong had previously operated on my husband's cataracts with kind, professional and excellent service! I'm a huge fan of Dr. Wong. Having had an underwhelming experience with a different doctor many years ago with Lasik, when it came time to have cataract surgery I wanted an expert without the ego who was able to calmly and objectively deal with whatever problems came up if and when things didn't go according to plan. His pricing is straightforward and he keeps every promise. My first choice of multifocal lens didn't lead to good results, I had poor image quality with shadowing and ghosted images with intolerable halos around lights both during day and night time. Where Dr. Wong shines is in his commitment to work through and resolve such issues and frankly most surgeons aren't willing to deal with poor results following cataract surgery. Dr. Wong performed a lens exchange into a lens better suited to my eye and the results were a dramatic and immediate improvement over the first lens. Cataract surgery is safe and any competent ophthalmologist can do them but choosing a surgeon who has both the skills and commitment to doing whatever is possible to achieve the best outcome for their patients is what distinguishes Dr. Wong from other providers.
