I had a very disappointing experience with Dr. Shusmita Rahman's office and would not recommend this practice. I initially found the office through my insurance as an in-network provider, but after my annual exam I was charged $150 instead of my expected $10 copay. When I questioned this, I was told my insurance was out-of-network. After months of disputing the charge with both my bank and insurance, I learned that the claim had been filed as if I had only been charged my $10 copay. I ultimately had to provide documentation and spend hours resolving the issue before being reimbursed. Unfortunately, the problems did not stop there. My lens prescription was written incorrectly (one eye was prescribed 2.25 instead of 2.75, which I have consistently worn in both eyes). When I attempted to resolve the issue, I was told I would need to pay for a full recheck, despite the error originating from the initial exam. Communication with the office was also difficult -- multiple calls during business hours went unanswered. When I returned in person to address the issue, the interaction felt dismissive and unprofessional, and the conversation quickly became argumentative. Rather than acknowledging the error, I was told the correction would only be made as an "exception." Between the billing issues, prescription error, and lack of customer service, this experience was extremely stressful and time-consuming. I strongly encourage others to carefully verify billing and prescriptions if choosing this practice.

Dr. Shusmita Rahman is amazing! It was my 1st ever eye exam and it was such a pleasure to do it. The doctor was very friendly and on a very positive note. She explained everything clearly, what's goings to be performed and what to expect. I got to learn more about my body and health, as well as importance of regular eye exams. I highly recommend her! All around great experience with Dr. Rahman. She was great at explaining everything when it came to my eye exam. The front desk greeted me with a positive attitude and welcomed me in. I only wish I still lived in Austin so Dr. Rahmon could still be my optometrist. She's amazing and her receptionist was incredibly friendly. I've never had such a great eye doctor. She is thorough and treated my whole family. At times, we had medical situations and not just check ups. She was on point and provided excellent care.

Charges for extra tests without telling you the additional costs that would be involved. My $10 co-pay eye exam ended up being $111. I really felt scammed. Never going back to this one.

I enjoy my eye exam because of Dr Rahman. She is friendly, funny, knowledgeable and explains things as she goes. Great experience. 10/10 recommend.

Dr. Rahman was great! I saw the same eye doctor for 15 years and he recently retired, so finding a good eye doctor again has been an unexpected challenge, but I feel like I'll be in good hands here! I was able to get in next day. Dr. Rahman is very thorough and I didn't feel rushed at all. I'm always a little anxious at the eye doctor and afraid I'll give the "wrong" answer when doing the little eye chart, but she clearly knows her stuff and is friendly and personable the entire appointment. She covered more about actual eye HEALTH and not just vision stuff than any optometrist I've ever seen. I actually (embarrassingly) didn't know that eye drops weren't the same as artificial tears until today, haha. Also, the front office worker people were having issues with must be gone, because although I didn't catch the name of the woman working up front today, she was super welcoming and helpful the whole time! This was my first time here and I didn't totally understand where to go to pay for my contacts and such (the office is split a little bit between SPM and Target Optical) and she walked me to wherever I needed to go when she really didn't have to take time out to do that! Really glad I found this place and will definitely be back. Worth the drive from North Austin!

Support Staff is just as important as a patient's overall experience with the Medical Professional. This is where issues develop when your first & subsequent contact is with boorish ill-informed personnel. Though I found Dr Rahman attentive & thorough I cannot get past the negative aspects of rude receptionists with a bloated sense of self-importance.
