Dr. McHenery is rude and does not talk to (you) the patient. He comes into the room and motions for you to look through the machine. He talks only to the tech and will then leave the room. No one explained anything to us until they took us to the check out. We were told to get an mri. Upon our return for the second visit he read the report after asking him to. He told us the results incorrectly and referred us to the wrong doctors to follow up with. It was very confusing and disorganized. The office is in deplorable condition with broken chairs and equipment. They repeat every test during each visit to generate more money. I would never recommend anyone to see him.
I had an appointment scheduled here after being referred by my eye doctor, but I left before being seen because the environment felt completely unprofessional and unsanitary.
When I arrived, the waiting room was dark with flashing Halloween lights that were very uncomfortable and unsafe for someone with light sensitivity. I tried looking down to avoid them, but the lights were reflecting off the floor too. The office had a strong unpleasant odor, the room I was placed in was dusty, and the tools and equipment looked visibly dirty and stained. Even the carpet pattern was overwhelming, and there was a sign saying not to turn the lights off, which is exactly what I needed to do.
I did not feel safe receiving care in those conditions and decided to leave. I strongly recommend the office address these cleanliness and sensory issues before seeing patients, especially those with neurological or vision-related conditions.
I've had vision issues for most of my life. Serious issues that Dr. McHenry has and is helping to resolve or make things better. I appreciate him & members of his staff. All are knowledgeable, kind, and prepared for changing situations.
I am so grateful for this doctor. I have been losing my vision for several years and he is the only doctor of the many I have seen that finally determined the cause and the treatment and there is now hope for my vision to improve or at least not get worse. I am so grateful. The reviews that talk about a 3-4 hour visit are unfair because they tell you up front that is how long you will be there and that is due to the many tests he runs to find out the cause behind complex issues. He is not a talkative doctor but he is polite and certainly knows what he is doing and I can't recommend him more highly. - Carol Barnett
Dr. McHenry diagnosed my Multiple Sclerosis and Optical Neuritis, in the very visit and saved my eyesight! I have seen him regularly, since 2011 and 3 years ago he sent me to a Retina Specialist, the same day, when my Retinas detached. I can't say enough good things about him!!!! Yes, I'm there for a few hours of testing but his staff is like a well oiled machine! I never wait too long and they take me from one room to the next, for different testing and I'm amazed how smooth it goes! I trust him completely with my eyesight!
I saw Dr. McHenry after being diagnosed with a pituitary cyst because I was worried about early vision changes. The tech was lovely and kind, but when Dr. McHenry came in he didn't acknowledge me, spoke only to the tech, said there was "an electrical issue," and walked out. No explanation. At checkout I was handed a flyer for optic neuropathy--again, nothing was discussed with me face-to-face.
Days later, terrifying diagnoses appeared in my portal (temporal pallor, optic atrophy, etc.) that were never explained. Over the next 3 weeks I called 11 times begging for results/clarity; I was never connected to a nurse or MA--only front desk staff relaying medical info. One staffer emailed me a photo of my eye with "this is where the abnormality is," as if I could interpret it. I was even told, "If you can drive, you're fine," and, "You already knew you had an issue if you came to a neuro-ophthalmologist."
I finally got into UTSW Neuro-Ophthalmology: nothing was wrong with my vision and they recommended annual follow-up (Dr. McHenry wanted every two months). I left this practice frightened, uninformed, and without my results. In my opinion, this was unacceptable communication and care. Get a second opinion.
I love Dr McHenry and his staff! It doesn't bother me that he has "no bedside manner", whatever that means. He has helped me more than any other Dr.! He has answered questions that don't pertain to my eyes! Have you read his biography? His staff are extremely well trained! I love his practice!
My neurologist referred me to Dr. McHenry and warned me at first. Letting me know that he sees over 300+ patients a week, and is often looking and monitoring in the background more than staying in the actual room. I didn't know what to expect based on this & the reviews, however this practice is great. They are a well oiled machine really, his staff are very professional and nice. The checkout team is so kind and helpful. They sensed me panicking about a procedure I had to do and calmed me down immediately. Yes, the doctor sees you for about 5 mins, but he's been receptive to all of my questions. Even though he sees an insane amount of patients per week I still felt that he was caring for me & my results. He's been very thorough, quick to get things scheduled/prescribed and really wants to get to the bottom of my issues.
