Dr. Carter spent an inordinate amount of time with me and was a great communicator. He explained all my options and answered all my questions. I highly recommend Dr. Carter due to his professionalism, patience, and honesty. I truly feel that he cared for me and I just wish that I lived closer to his office!
Please read carefully if you are considering using this person. He is incredibly rude, narcistic and not trust worthy.
I chose to overlook this behavior since I had been wearing glasses or contacts since 1st grade. He did my first Lasik and told me I would need an enhancement at some point. A few years later he was correct. The shape was not as rounded as it needed to be, so my vision began to blur. I returned for consultation and at this time, Carter was trying out these incredibly expensive new cataract lenses that were not getting very good reviews. During my appointment he insisted I had cataracts. When I disagreed and mentioned I was too young and had passed the cataract eye test, he then had 2 of his assistants come in to swear I did and needed the $8k surgery. I immediately set up second opinion appointments at UTSW. I saw 3 of the best eye Dr's in Dallas. They tested me and even had me come back a second time to double check after measuring the cataract. They all agreed that I was not a cataract candidate and should not be considered as such. I pressed the issue since they would not address Carters inaccurate diagnosis. It was then that they explained the light tunnel test and if you can read what is at the end of the light tunnel, then cataracts are not an issue. Careful not to say anything inappropriate about this person, they went on to explain that everyone has cataracts at birth and that mine were probably the same size as the day I was born and not a concern. The shape should have been more rounded and this is what would fix the blurred vision. I had an enhancement soon after and 12 years later I am 20 / 15 in both eyes, no concerns and certainly no cataract surgery needed. I would NOT recommend Carters office for anything, especially something as important as a persons eyes!
I had my lasik procedure done 2 years ago it was an absolute nightmare with this guy. I had a bad reaction to the medicine they gave me to calm me down and was having a panic/ anxiety attack. He had the nurse hold me down while he sliced my eyes open with no remorse yelling at me to stare at the red dot. Any sane person would discontinue and ask the patient to come back, or maybe try another medication. A sane person would be worried about the outcome of the procedure with a patient who was reacting badly. But no, he continued. Now I'm near sighted in one eye and severely far sighted in the other and get vertigo/ motion sickness everyday. Due to the tears, my eyes burned for 6 hours after my procedure and i did not sleep like he told me i would. I fought with the idea of actually clawing my eyes out. Do not go to this guy. Needs to retire/be arrested
I am going on 2 months now with new multifocal lenses as a result of cataracts. First, and most importantly, my vision is 20/20, I can see distance and close up, colors are brilliant, and I only wear a mild pair of cheap readers to work on my computer or read ridiculously small type. There have been no complications.
A primary reason for choosing Dr. Carter- I'm on a faith-based health cost sharing program, not typical insurance, and Dr. Carter's office was the ONLY one that would work with them. Kudos to Dr. Carter.
I've read comments about bedside manner, and I had a positive experience. I care most about performance. Personally, I like his communication style and dry humor, which was immediately evident. His manner in the OR was all-business, exactly what I want with my eyes on the line. He constantly gave me instructions during procedures and assured me I was doing fine. He was direct in his communication to me and his staff. He knows what he needs, and you're compelled to deliver. I don't have issues with that.
The only negative has been the efficiency of the office operation. The staff were courteous, no problems setting appointments, but I had to wait longer than I would like a couple times. There were a couple miscues among staff about where I was in the process, because every time you go you end up seeing 6 people. And they forgot to bill my cost-sharing provider, but one phone call to the finance guy, he said, "ignore the bill, we'll generate a new one once the claim is handled". Stuff like this happens, and you fix it.
I have no reservations in recommending Dr. Carter.
I've now had six surgeries on my eyes. Insurance eligibility has played a major factor in my eye care. So when surgery became an option again this year, 2019, I fastened on to a name I should not have. Harvey Carter is a name and only that. His demeanor in the OR is not one I would care to listen to whilst under the influence. His ability to make me feel at peace was untenable during the surgery, and at the end of the day, my vision is incredibly lower than the vision in my other eye that I also had cataract surgery in .

I received cataract surgery from Dr. Carter in both eyes and could not be more pleased with the results. His staff was fantastic and they even provided transportation to and from the surgery. The surgery itself was painless and the results are amazingly perfect!
If you are needing eye surgery or eye care, the Carter eye center is the place to go.
I created this google+ account because of my experience at this eye center.
They cite a 5/5 rating on their website, but I thought, "there's no way," and after reading reviews here, it's clearly a lie.
I spent the most for my LASIK, because I needed it done right -- I went to "the best."
Result?
Right eye 20/20
Left eye 20/50
This was a LASIK nightmare. I'VE COMMENTED SEVERAL TIMES ON THEIR BLOG TO SHARE MY EXPERIENCE, BUT THEY'VE TAKEN IT DOWN.
Contracts no longer fit in my eyes with my stigmatism, courtesy of lasik. My eyes are very sensitive to light. My mother and I waited all day to get me the procedure, despite them saying it would be a couple of hours. He yelled at his staff during my procedure, commenting on how nervous I still was after the drugs. Dr. Carter then yelled at them for taking too long with something, which as the victim here, I can only assume was the reason my results have been so horrific.
Staff service: POOR
Result: Very Dissatisfied (and now broke)
Find somewhere else for your LASIK, I hear he is great for cataracts, but I wish I'd have read the real reviews before I went in.
Dr Carter performed lasing surgery on me 1n 2023 and my vision is still 2020. I am very happy with the results
