After receiving strong recommendations from both my primary care provider and my wife, I visited Heart of Texas Eye Care for a cataract surgery consultation. At 83 years old, my primary goal was to achieve reliable distance and intermediate vision while remaining comfortable using glasses for near tasks. During the initial examination, Dr. Dudek was exceptionally thorough and patient. She took the time to review the various lens possibilities, ensuring I understood how each would impact my daily life. I appreciated the opportunity to take a week to reflect on these options before making my final decision. The results of the surgery have been nothing short of astounding. Not only did we meet my initial parameters, but I now have excellent vision across all ranges--far, intermediate, and near. For the first time in decades, I am completely free from the need for glasses. Remarkably, my vision today is clearer and sharper than it was when I was 30 years old. I was able to call and schedule an emergency same-day visit to have my child's eyes checked after experiences alarming symptoms (all is well). It was a long wait but it was the end of the day and they were squeezing us in. This was nine days ago. They just followed up saying that insurance covered more than they were expecting and that they'll be refunding the difference to our credit card. I have gotten refunds from doctors offices in the past after going through bills and finding discrepancies; but have NEVER had an office proactively initiate a refund. My family and I will be now be going here for life.

As a customer experience and business process practitioner I can't help but scrutinize the entire journey of doing business with any service provider. The experience I have had with the entire Heart of Texas Eye Care team for the past six years has been exceptional! They execute all of their processes efficiently, from annual eye exams to prescriptions, cataract surgery/lens replacement, insurance and patient billing with incredible personal care. I am particularly impressed with my recent cataract surgeries/lens replacements. My expectations were not high based on the experiences I had heard from others who have had cataract surgeries performed by other Ophthalmologists/eye care providers. The entire process, the incredible surgery center/surgical staff and recovery protocol was comfortable and resulted in the best vision I can recall since my adolescent years, 20/20 clear, bright and crisp vision. Dr. Lara Dudek assessed my vision need thoroughly, described my options clearly and delivered an outcome well above my expectations. They have a great care team and admin team. I've been with them for three years now. Dr. Dudek (opthalmologist) is thorough with her examination and precise with prescriptions. They are not an "optometry" practice, so supplemental vision insurance may not be applicable here.

I forgot to write a review in my last rating so I'm including my review here! I got my SMILE procedure done in April and I am currently at one month post op. The initial consultation and pre-op appointments went very smoothly and the lead technician Amelia and optometrist Dr. Erica Payne helped to answer all of my questions about the tests performed. All in all there were about 10 tests before the actual procedure which are the Autorefractor, Aberrometor, Pentacam, Slit Lamp, Phoropter, IOL Master, Varioscan, Optovue OCT, Appenator and Dilated Exam. These tests basically ensure that you have adequate corneal thickness for whichever procedure you choose and to ensure you don't have preexisting signs of dry eye. They measured my cornea topography, corneal pressure, retina and general eye health and confirmed I was a good candidate for the SMILE procedure. Given my active sports lifestyle I didn't want the risks associated with a LASIK flap or the long recovery time associated with PRK. The day of the procedure the ophthalmologist Dr. Lara Dudek confirmed my prescription and took me to the surgical suite. The surgery itself was quick and painless, they applied numbing drops to my eyes and used the femtosecond laser to cut the lenticle, which was manually removed by Dr. Dudek. The machine gently holds your eye in place so there is no movement during the laser process. There was a bit of pressure and a lot of lights and hazy vision, but after removal of the lenticle I could see objects in the distance basically immediately, albeit a bit hazy. It was incredible to not need glasses or contacts anymore as I had spent over half of my life in them at this point. After the procedure in the week following I did experience some mild dry eye, but that was exacerbated by the fact I work in front of a computer screen 8 hours a day. I experienced some halos around light sources but that has gotten better over time. I couldn't be happier with my visual acuity and I am seeing 20/10 out of my left eye and 20/15 out of my right eye. I would highly recommend getting the SMILE procedure as the entire team at Heart of Texas Eye Care is incredible and cares about you having a wonderful patient experience every step of the way. Dr. Dudek has taken care of my eyes for years. It's always a delight to visit Heart of Texas. The staff is easy going and pleasant and eager to help. Dr. Dudek did my cataract surgery last year and I'm walking around with 20/20 vision at age 66 - no glasses for the first time in more than 50 years! Dr. Dudek lets you know what she is doing every step of the way and is always willing to discuss what's going on and explains things. So nice not to have to worry about how my eyesight and eye health is being managed; Heart of Texas has me covered!
