Alexandra Lovoy

I saw Dr. Alexandra Lovoy primarily to treat my dry eyes so that I could wear soft contact lens. After prescribing me Xiidra, then $650 PRP drops, she said my only option was scleral lens (roughly $3,000). Given the cost, she confirmed with her office that half of the fitting fee would be refunded. It turns out Dr. Lovoy flat out lied to me regarding this refund. After 9 visits over 4 months, the scleral lens still did not fit properly. Her office brings this fact up as if to make a point that I was a difficult patient, but instead the takeaway should be that Dr. Lovoy is incompetent. Each lens did not fit correctly or provide me proper vision as substantiated by the vision test and equipment. This is an objective measurement. I cannot "fake" improper fitting lens or inferior vision (restricted blood vessels, blurry vision, etc.). Dr. Lovoy's approach was doomed to fail from the beginning. She attempted to alter both the physical lens fitting and the prescription concurrently. However, each time the lens is physically altered, the shape of the lens is altered, which naturally affects the prescription. Unsurprising, the power was never accurate because physical alterations were constantly being made. A proper fit and prescription was a constantly moving target and Dr. Lovoy was just guessing. After I lost confidence in Dr. Lovoy's ability after so many failed attempts, I researched and the best practice for scleral lens is to first confirm fit and then add in the prescription as the last step. By ensuring the fit is correct before incorporating the prescription, it reduces the likelihood of needing multiple lens orders, which can be both time-consuming and costly. Dr. Lovoy's decision to try to complete both at the same time resulted in unnecessary time and expense, for which her office blames me and not her own incompetence. I began seeing an ophthalmologist and was prescribed Tyrvaya which has already addressed my dry eyes. This was not even considered/offered/suggested by Dr. Lovoy.
