Dr. Hamill did my cataract surgery. My right eye was a stage 4. My vision was 20/400. I was legally blind. After surgery, with no post op complications, my vision was 20/22 which does not require any vision correction with glasses. I have worn glasses since I was 5. Now, at 81, my vision is better than when I was born. His perfect placement of the lens gave me sight without correction for the first time in my life. What more can I say? I am so very grateful to this brilliant doctor and for the care I received at Alkek.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My mom came in for cataract surgery, and everything went smoothly--from her doctor's visits to testing--until we arrived at the surgery center. At that point, she was suddenly told she had to pay over $800, which she had never been informed about beforehand. Baylor's call center later claimed they had tried calling her multiple times, but that is simply not true. She never received a call or voicemail. This situation was extremely upsetting and stressful, especially on the day of her surgery. The only positive part of this experience was the staff member who helped us at the center--she was calm, understanding, and took the time to reach out to her manager to see if they could work with my mom on the payment. Baylor seriously needs to improve its communication and internal systems. No patient should be blindsided with unexpected charges on the day of surgery.

I've been bringing my 86 year old mother who lives in Katy to the center for over a year. From the Valet, facility staff are all friendly cordial eager to assist and professional. Management is definitely doing something right. She'll not go to any other Ophthalmologist other than Doctor Chang. I'm now going to make an appointment for myself.

I have never had as much of a bad experience with an ophthalmology clinic as I had with Baylor Alkek Eye Center. My frustration with this clinic started during my first visit. While booking the appointment, the customer service agent took my insurance information (Superior Vision), but did not tell me that Baylor does not accept the Superior Vision insurance. I found out from the doctor, in her office, after I had driven 30 miles to the clinic, that my insurance is not accepted at their clinic. The second frustration, was that the doctor could not get my contact lenses fitted correctly after 5 visits. That means that I had to travel to the clinic FIVE times in a span of 2 months to finally get the contact lenses fitted correctly. I paid Baylor $470, twice more than what I usually pay for contact lens fitting and exam. The third frustration was when they bombarded me with letters, emails, and calls 4 months later to collect another $35 co-pay. My frustration is not so much about the cost of the visit, but rather the poor customer service and quality of care at this clinic. I've been wearing rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses for almost 20 years. Every doctor got the fitting right the first time, and all of them accepted my insurance. Too many surprises at this clinic and I will not be back.

If I could give the staff zero I would. My son had a cornea transplant, and 2 days prior to his surgery we were informed that they had not received authorization from the insurance....this was 30 days after scheduling his surgery. I soon found out that they had just submitted the information that morning. The Medical Assistants were rude, and very inconsiderate at his follow up appointment. Turning on bright lights, and speaking loudly...he was in pain from surgery duh. I will complete his last visit in a few weeks and never return to this place again.

My doctor was Sumitra Khandelwal. she did two cataract surgeries on my eyes a year apart, placing two different lenses, which was not discussed with me aheadof the time. The outcome of my surgeries were exactly opposite of what I asked for. After surgeries she had no time to see me... As a dentist my eyes are my professional investment and I am sorry I ever met this woman.

I've been a long-standing patient at this Center, and have experienced great care previously. However, during this past year, while the doctors continue to provide high quality care, the sub par performance of the support staff and receptionists have been less than desirable. As a result of repeated communication breakdowns between scheduling and doctor's office, I have experienced a delay in critical treatment, not once; but three times. When I inquire about the reason for the mis-scheduling, each staff member gives a different version of why the appointment was cancelled or re-scheduled without notifying me! Basically, I get " the run-around" and no one takes accountablility. Rather, they turn it around and make it the patient's fault. This type of lack of "caring" for patients does nothing but add a bad mark to the wonderful doctors who practice there. Someone in management needs to address these issues. I fear that it will only get worse as time goes by.

I have a complicated eye condition which is exacerbated by the many steroid medications necessary prevent blindness in one of my eyes. In my opinion, the doctors in this clinic are world class and Texans are lucky to have access to high quality services offered by the Alkek Eye Center. Very few people in the U.S. have access to this his quality of treatment. I am very happy to wait as long as it takes to have access to these doctors. I travel 4 hours from San Antonio for my appointments.
