First time here and pleasantly surprised. Much larger and nicer than it may appear from the outside. Cindy was very accommodating in helping me make my appointment, Broderick went the extra mile and offered me an earlier spot due to a cancellation, and Dr. Holbrook was smart, knowledgeable, and best of all, genuinely caring. Overall the cost was a little more than some cheap competitors around town, but definitely worth it. They've got the experience of over 20 years in the business and it shows. You feel like you are in good hands at Memorial Eye. My new glasses will give my eyes more protection from all the time I spend in front of a screen. Will soon be coming back for contacts.
Please don't waste your time here. please do you research
I have experience going to routine check ups to an optometrist.
I recently just moved close to the area and this was my first and last time coming here.
They only had one doctor on duty (which she was very nice) but the staff or whoever I saw first, had no idea how to work anything and prolong the exam way more than it needed to be. I spend at least a good 2 hours there.
The reason why I truly gave it a one star was because of pricing. They are way over priced. They would add unnecessary fees and additions. They can't even break down(explain) the price for you. They are fully aware of what my insurance covers, but I am also aware. My insurance cover $200-220 for the frames and fully covers the basic lenses. And contact lenses are $200 covered.
I was browsing limited amount glasses and found some Lacoste that suited me and the price was $258 for the frame. After I came to the front desk, the staff sat me down and starting adding preferences on what I wanted, but didn't really ask me anything. I couldn't really see what she was adding either(my eyesight was compromised because of dilation). Well she did ask if I wanted the thinnest lenses available (which is very unnecessary; my vision isn't severe), that came out to a total of $555 after my insurance. Ridiculous! So I told her I just wanted just the basic lenses with Anti-glare and with no surprise the total was $200. I asked her why is the total so much, because my insurance should've covered the lenses. All she said to me is that the retail price for the glasses was about $600 and the lenses were $700, which is ridiculous. I don't even think she knew what she added on there. It makes no sense, I bought Armani's the year prior and it cost a little more (different place) but did not pay anything over 100 (had anti-glare too). So I asked to get contacts instead (which was usually fully covered) and she said for the 1-year after insurance, the total was $120. So without insurance it would be $320!!! Literally robbing by up selling on these ridiculous prices. So for sure I left with nothing but not without my prescriptions.
After doing research and calling my insurance, they are many places that are way more affordable and still high quality. And I even found the exact glasses I wanted and added my preferences on eyeconic . They took my insurance and uploaded my prescription and the total came out to be $50 with free shipping.

I made an appointment over the phone to treat an eye problem that I was having issues with. The staff at this memorial eye location on Westheimer and Gessner are very professional and great at what they do. They spoke to me like I had been going there for years and were very friendly.
Dr. Kim To is the doctor who took care of me. I have to say that she went above and beyond. Not only did she take her time with me, but she went out of her way to save me money.
She made sure to refer me and advise me on what to do if the prescription was too expensive. Not only did she do this during the consultation, but she went out of her way and found me in the lobby after we were done to personally show me a website and a program that was available for the medicine she had prescribed.
Who does this?
Even with insurance, the amount saved was very significant to me.
Thank you to Dr. Kim and the friendly staff. I apologize for not getting everyone's name.
People online want receipts with bold claims, so here you go.

I had an amazing experience at Memorial Eye Center with Dr. Chuang! From start to finish, the service was exceptional. Dr. Chuang was professional, thorough, and took the time to explain everything clearly. The staff was friendly, efficient, and made the entire process smooth and comfortable. I truly appreciate the level of care I received and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend to anyone looking for top-notch eye care!
I had a terrible experience at Memorial Eye Center. Despite confirming my insurance (Obama Care) multiple times, they rejected me at each appointment. After waiting five days for a call to confirm coverage, I showed up on January 2, 2025, only to be told I had to pay $79 out-of-pocket. The lack of communication and professionalism was incredibly frustrating. Avoid this place!
I have been using your Wilcrest location for years and I moved closer into town and tried your Gessner location. I was greeted with smiles from the staff and the doctor spent time with me actually talking to me and explaining everything about my eyes. Kudos to your practice and you have a patient for life.

While the staff is friendly in person there is a level of negligence and poor communication that is apparently allowed along with poor customer service on corporate's side. When I go to the facility most things run smoothly as far as an eye exam and the workers are nice and professional, but since Jan 2023 (my first visit) I have been told I might need additional testing due to potential eye pressure. When the date was approaching to take the test it was moved last minute, then it got moved again until I asked what was the issue. A worker then informed me that the machine is broke and they do not know if the company will make the investment to fix it and was working on rescheduling all the patients that needed the test. Never contacted me again and told me to just go to any eye center for the test after I called, instead of helping me with setting up the appointment or a referral. After I made my yearly eye exam appointment for this year and my follow up appointment for the same test that is now over a year passed I get a call the day before to let me know that machine is not active. I work in a lab myself. I have worked in several labs to be frank. I'm not understanding how your staff is so uninformed to not know whether a crucial piece of equipment does not work especially for over a year. I am not understanding why corporate is so cheap that they cannot or will not fix the same piece of equipment for 1.5 years. I am also not understanding why I have to wait the day before to find out and then set up my own appointment at a different facility. This is a textbook example of negligence. Which is ironic considering I received a lecture on my first visit during my yearly exam since I had missed two years throughout the pandemic on how important eye health is and to get consistent exams. I am very dissatisfied with the way this has been handled. I also am not a fan of how many notifications I receive just for an appointment. Two emails, plus text and a call prior is excessive. If I schedule the appointment a confirmation email and one singular text or phone call the day prior should be sufficient.
A hidden gem of a Dr office. Professional and polite. Staff was courteous and did everything possible to save me as much money. Usually I get bombarded with extra add ons and charges. Prices are reasonable and worked with my insurance. Doctor listened to what I said and now I can see without a headache. Will be making this my standard office from now on for glasses and contacts.
