On 8-8-2025x I visited Mira Eye Care at Sam Houston to obtain a referral for a specialist appointment. Staff ( Martha Irias) repeatedly failed to send the referral to my specialist despite confirming they would. When I went in person to request it, they refused to provide the referral or share necessary diagnostic codes with my specialist ( specialist and Mira got into a dispute due to the unwillingness to assist retrieve my health information).
During the visit, technician Martha Arias, a Hispanic woman, stated on video that she had my home address and other personal information (her face image and exact statement are on video footage) after she heard my specialist obtain codes a different route. I have never been threatened by a health care professional in my life, as a health care professional. I am a Black African-American woman, and the way this was said, combined with the refusal to assist me, made me feel targeted, harassed, and discriminated against. I have the statement recorded.
Instead of resolving the matter, staff called the police on me. I was approached by officers while at a nearby business (police stated Mira eye care called 3/4 times and watched where I departed to), despite still not receiving the medical information I needed. This left me feeling emotionally distressed and unsafe. In the end, the police was able to speak with my eye care specialist and immediately realized I wasn't the aggressor. The police stated the store manager (short Hispanic woman with red short hair) wanted to place a trespassing charge against me, but how or why would you do that if I am a patient who was attempting to get my referral for a specialist.
I am sharing my experience so other patients are aware of the lack of cooperation, the handling of personal information, and the way I was treated in this situation.
I will be pressing charges against Martha, filing a complaint with the BBB and I will also be sending an email to whatever Medical Board she is licensed with, if she is licensed.
Since, I have been getting phone calls from random numbers telling me to meet them at Dollar General and that they met me at the doctors office. I do not feel safe, rather targeted by Mira and their employees.
Update:
Updated Review (November 10 Incident)
On November 10, I attempted to get my eyeglass prescription faxed to LensCrafters.
After speaking with an employee (Martha Irias), the prescription was still not sent after several days and no one responded to my follow-up emails.
While at LensCrafters, their staff received a call from Mira Eye Care. The employee told me that Mira spent the call discussing me negatively instead of simply faxing the prescription. This was extremely unprofessional and delayed my ability to receive care causing further emotional distress added from the initial situation that occurred.
This follows an earlier incident on August 8, 2025, where Mira repeatedly failed to send a medically necessary referral for a retinal hole, threatened to refuse service, and called police on me several times while I was attempting to obtain my medical information.
Great doctor and amazing staff who is friendly and honest. They will take good care of you! This is my second year with them. I made the mistake of going to another clinic to have my eyes checked and they wanted to charge me a little at over $1000 for glasses. I came back to Mira and they did it for less than have that price. Unfortunately my prescription was bad. I had Mira re do my exam and they're taking care of everything through my insurance and I'll have my glasses with my correct prescription.
It's ok very friendly and treat you with respect. Although it takes time to get attended
It seems like they don't want to give me my contact prescription even after I told them everything is okay. Today I had to get a little sassy with the young lady answering the phone so that she can get it to me since they don't have email she has to mail it to my house. I'm glad then I'm going somewhere else to get my contacts instead of giving them more business. There was no follow-up call no questions it was like it was quick to get my copay for my insurance and then that was it. Why is this place so archaic. I went here being that the business was Hispano como yo.
I was told a price when I was there. I asked the lady at the front desk if I could pay half 1 week, & the rest the following week. She said yes, I thought great. However, when I called to inform the woman I was on my way to give half of the payment, she then informed me the price was $400 instead of the $160 WE had agreed on during my visit. I provided my insurance information to her, & she also had the nerve to tell me it wasn't insurance, ONLY a "discount card" I decided to go to another place for my glasses. My INSURANCE (not discount card) has been accepted. My INSURANCE WILL cover the cost of my glasses & also give me 50% off the second pair. I should've known it was a bad business when I went because a woman was there to pick up her mother's glasses & they couldn't find them. I will NEVER go there again.
After being here for 2 hours, in the process of the exam I told the doctor that my son has Autism because he kept telling him to open his eyes and he couldn't. So, he gave me an attitude. So, unprofessional and up to this day I don't even have his prescription.
I've been coming here for years. Never had a problem till now. The women that was there on Saturday in the front desk was very rude. Very unpleasant customer service. Won't be returning.
I love this place. I've been going here for about 5yrs, never had a problem. The ones that are complaining are the ones that probably cannot afford it.
