Our daughter has been wearing glasses for the last 2 years due to eye muscle issues, as her eyes were turning inward. This was causing her to fall behind her peers in school, which led to frustration and behavior problems. We felt she wasn't getting the proper treatment and decided to make her an appointment with Dr. Stavis. We are so glad we did. Dr. Stavis took the time to do a more thorough exam than she had previously been given. He was able to diagnose her with a condition called excyclotorsions, or twisting of the eye. He recommended an outpatient surgery to correct the problem. Its only been a few weeks, and it has already changed her life! Her teachers have even noticed a difference in her abilities at school, and the frustration and behavior problems have been drastically reduced. She enjoys reading books now, which was difficult before due to her condition. Its not easy for any 4 year old to go to the doctor and have her eyes dialated, but Dr. Stavis is always patient and kind and makes her feel as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Stavis as my husband states has a gift! My husband had both eyes treated for torsion and the results so far are amazing! (he is 2 weeks post op). He said that the surgery was painless and during recovery he had minimal pain or soreness. He is still recovering but the healing is coming along great there was no bruising after the surgery which to me is a sign that dr stavis did a really thorough and gentle job. We are very thankful and blessed to have found his office both him and Melissa were very informative and most importantly available for all of our concerns and questions. Dr stavis personally kept in contact with us after surgery to make sure that everything was fine which is very much appreciated and he was very detailed with explaining all things after surgery to us. Anyone that is suffering from similar issues I would highly recommend him(for adults or children).
After going to 2 different eye specialist over time for my son and them both telling me different things and claiming my sons eyes would fix as long as he wore glasses yet that never happened I finally came across Dr. Stavis. He was amazing and I'd highly recommend him. He was able to tell me what exactly what was going on with my sons eyes, show me the problem, and better explain everything to me. My son looked as if his right eye was lazy. In actuality his right eye was his stronger eye and he was crossed eyed in both eyes. Dr. Stavis was able to fix the twisting in his eyes that would cause words to look as if they were bouncing when he would read and the scaring tissue my son had under his eyes. My son actually reads a lot faster now and can focus a lot better without his eyes moving. He no longer has headaches and says he sees a lot better. Dr. Stavis was amazing and did excellent work in correcting my sons eyes.
Dr Stavis is amazing, he actually listened to me about the symptoms I was having. My eyes were hurting more & more frequently from my work on the computer and I tried to explain my issues to no less than five different opthmologists over the past two years. I was told my prescription was about the same each time & they weren't sure what was happening. They said to take frequent breaks and use eye drops. Dr Stavis thoroughly examined me and knew immediately why I was in pain. He explained his diagnosis and I was so relieved that I cried. I waited 40 years to have that diagnosis! I could finally look forward to enjoying reading again.
I really felt hopeless about ever finding an eye doctor who could help me. I tried one more time, researching Opthmologist's that treated Amblyopia. I tried Dr Stavis' s office and Melissa, his assistant, kindly answered all my questions and made me feel comfortable about discussing the problems I was having with my eyes. She squeezed me into Dr Stavis's busy schedule when l told her about my eye pain and I'm so grateful. Dr Stavis delayed leaving for his trip to exam me.
I totally recommend Dr Stavis and his caring staff to anyone searching for an exceptional Opthmologist.
Dr. Stavis has been seeing my daughter since she was 4 months old, she is now 12. He successfully treated her strawberry hemangioma on her eye and he just last year fixed her twisting in both her eyes. She still needs glasses but her vision has dramatically improved. She can now see and read with a much lighter prescription and will one day be able to wear contacts.
Thank you Dr. Stavis for giving my daughter back her vision.
Dr. Stavis has been my Ophthalmologist for 38 years I started seeing him when I was 10 years old. Dr Stavis has enhanced and improved my vision by utilizing surgical procedures to minimize my Nystagmus condition. I'm forever grateful to his knowledge and skills that made life better for me. Prior to coming to Dr. Stavis all those years ago, I was told I would never be able to drive a car because poor vision, and that I could be declared disabled and always will have to wear coke bottle type glasses by other eye doctors. Im driving and wear glasses and doing fine. My wonderful parents were determined that treatment can improve and enhance my vision and this determination led them to Dr..Stavis.
Dr. Stavis helped me tremendously, he identified there was twisting in my eyes and scarring tissue from a childhood injury that cause my eyes to turn inward. The surgery was painless and the recovery was easy. Now my eyes are straight and I don't have to be so subconscious of my eyes being crossed when I look at people. He truly has changed my life and I couldn't thank him enough.
I brought my 2 year-old daughter in to Dr. Stavis as a frantic Mommy. She had pink eye that just wouldn't go away. Upon Dr. Stavis examining her eyes, her father and I learned, yes, she had pink eye, but there was definitely more to the story. Our daughter had a bit of strabismus, astigmatism, and a condition called twisting of the eye. We had never heard of the twisting of the eye condition and immediately became very concerned. Dr. Stavis was so gracious to sit down with our family and draw a picture of the condition, explain how it impacts children, and our daughter clearly displayed several of the signs. She wasn't a misfit with other kids, and happened to be social, but she would get so angry and have severe tantrums on things, that just shouldn't require a tantrum at all. Our daughter had a pretty severe case of twisting of the eye, and surgery was definitely needed. Over the next few months, her condition was closely monitored, and surgery was performed in July 2016. I must say now we have a 3 year-old, who still wears glasses, but no longer suffers from twisting of the eye. The surgery was a huge success and my daughter was one of the younger patients he performed this procedure on. I'm so thankful we got this done, as my daughther has a love for books and reading, and that condition would have drastically impacted her ability to successfully concentrate to read. The tantrums are gone for the most part as well. She's 3, so some tantrums are completely normal, however having tantrums on things because it was vision-related are no more! She is also focusing more on tasks as we teach them to her as well. We are so blessed to have such a visionary as our opthamologist who passionately works to correct eye problems where they exist. Thanks Dr. Stavis for patiently working with our little one as we work to keep her vision as close to 20/20 as we can!!
