We are so grateful for Dr Chhabra! He was able to identify issues with my kids' eyesight early on, and for the past two years he has been proactively working with us to better manage and improve their vision.
He truly cares about his patients' eye health and always takes the time to explain everything clearly. We especially appreciate how accommodating the office is with our big family appointments. They respect our time and do their best to make everything run smoothly.
The staff is always good at setting expectations of a full exam vs follow ups, and we are grateful they're able to run our insurance benefits ahead of time to have a co-pay estimate ready by the time of our appt. Their business office is also easy to talk to and followed up with me when we had a hiccup with our insurance. Very thankful for their help.
We are very happy with the care we've received and highly recommend this practice.
If I could give this place a zero, I would. I read the reviews beforehand, and many people mentioned that the office seems focused on making money and charging for everything. I completely agree. However, my biggest concern is how unapproachable they are.
If you try calling the office, don't bother, your call goes to a third party scheduling service that has nothing to do with the clinic itself. They cannot answer any questions, and the only option they offer is to schedule another appointment (and pay again) just to ask something simple.
In my case, my daughter is farsighted. They told us her prescription had not changed. But when we picked up her glasses (from a different optical shop), she couldn't see everything was blurry. The doctor had added astigmatism and an axis to her prescription, something she never had before and that was never mentioned to us during the visit.
I called to ask whether there was a mistake or to get a quick explanation, but the customer service team had no idea. They only schedule appointments, and it is impossible to speak with anyone from the actual office, not even a manager. Now I have to take another day off work, my daughter has to miss school, and we have to pay even more money for something that could have been resolved with a simple phone call. And if the prescription was incorrect, I will have to pay out of pocket for new glasses.
It is extremely frustrating. I would not recommend this place at all.
While we were waiting in the room after the initial testing, two other parents were also complaining about how poorly trained the staff is when working with children. I agree. My daughter is around 10, so she managed fine, but younger kids were being treated like adults, even though it's harder for them to stay still or read quickly. The staff seemed rushed and impatient, as if the priority was to move people through as fast as possible rather than provide good care.
They charge for absolutely everything, and they've created a system where even the simplest question requires you to drive over an hour in my case, and pay $$$$ just to speak to someone in person. It feels like no matter how many mistakes they make, they will just have you come back and charge you again.
This office has been removed from our pediatricians referral list as of Dec 9th 2025:
Rec is the employee who received our referral to Dr. Chhabra , our daughter has BCBS PPO full insurance, we were at our deductible on the year. Rec said yesterday he would call us back when the referral came in ...which he didn't a full 6 hours later so I followed up. He also refused to process the referral we received from Wonderkids Pediatric with no clear reason as to how and what was needed to proceed with the appointment. We have never had an issue through 8 years of my daughters life ever processing a referral. He refused to tell me what was wrong with her referral so I could get it addressed. He refused to forward or escalate the call to another person who could tell me what needed to get addressed. Rec wanted to argue and not escalate and handle the call properly. My daughter was refused services although she was fully insured and the appointment scheduler made no effort to book, explain, resolve, or communicate the issue if any...and I repeat, she has a PPO which is BCBS.
Upon further discussion to this ridiculous interaction which seemed anything but regular, legal, or procedural.....Rec actually isn't in the office, he revealed he's a call center employee not even in the states. This is not how medical appointments for emergencies are or should be handled especially when it comes to a child's vision being impaired or if not taken care of in a timely manner possibly worsened. If Rec was a stateside individual he would already know that 1, with a PPO you don't need a referral in the first place 2, communication to the patient to clearly state what was done incorrectly (if anything at that point) so they can get it squared away. 3 , call centers SHOULD NOT be handling patient calls when there is emergency situations where critical information needs to be concise and clear for the welfare of a child. I've already called our Pediatrician, relayed our interactions, they were so disturbed by it this office has now been removed from the physician referral list.
Great service and wonderful staff! Nice and clean offices. Dr. Chhabra is great with my kids and is an amazing ophthalmologist! I recommend bringing your family to Alamo Pediatric Eye Center. My daughters have being seeing Dr. Chhabra for over 10 years. We followed him from the other office he used to be at. We drive from the Southside to Shavano Park and don't mind the drive, its worth it. Dr. Chhabra is kind and patient. He explains everything well. I have 2 daughter's with disabilities and he is wonderful with them. His assistants are also kind and respectful. They understand my daughter's anxiety and special needs and make her comfortable. I'm grateful my daughter's have Dr. Chhabra as their ophthalmologist.
Our family is so grateful for Dr. Manpreet Chhabra. He successfully treated and corrected my daughter's condition. I will always recommend him to anyone in search of a highly skilled Ophthalmologist.
Thank you!
We were so pleased with this office! The staff was so kind and patient. While it doesn't change how great our experience was; we'd wish to have some entertainment other than TV for the kiddos. We were in and out in about an hour for two toddlers!
For me, we have been a patient for over a year. We went last August and the way the doctor handled my daughter was unacceptable. My daughter was uncomfortable and trying to dilate her eyes was pretty much unsuccessful by the doctor's staff so when we got to see him he seemed annoyed that her eyes were not completely dilated. I don't know who has success putting eye drops in kids' eyes but it was not successful this time. The last few times the staff seemed unprofessional for my liking especially when dealing with children. We have switched Pediatric Optometrists, but I wanted to give my review.
I love this eye center!! Dr. Manpreet Chhabra is super nice!! Explains everything so well. The office is so clean and smell so fresh ! The front staff as well as the people who do the test before you see the Dr are so professional! One of the best eye centers I have ever been too.
