Dr. Whitney is the best ophthalmologist ever! She was very thorough during my exam and made sure I understood everything she was explaining. The office has a very calm and relaxing environment and I absolutely loved that I never once felt rushed nor had to wait a long time to get seen. 10/10 recommend!
I recently had cataract eye surgery on both eyes. I am extremely pleased with Dr Teresa Whitney and the staff at the Shavano Eye Center. Dr Whitney was very professional, efficient, thorough, and communicated very well. I was very nervous about having eye surgery but she put me at ease, explained every step of the process and made me feel confident about the surgery. The surgery was a complete success and as easy overall as she explained. Her staff at the Shavano Eye Center were also very professional, friendly, and efficient. They were on-time throughout all the appointments. I highly recommend Dr Whitney and the Shavano Eye Center!!!
I received excellent service from Dr. Whitney and the staff. I met with a retina specialist a month after I had cataract surgery with Dr. Whitney and he was very impressed with the work she did on my eyes. She is caring, compassionate, and an excellent surgeon.
I don't usually post reviews, especially negative reviews. However, I felt that I had to share this information if you are someone who's looking for a new eye doctor and considering this office. I actually like the office, its location, and Dr. Whitney. My daughter has had several visits here and the experience has been pretty good. This review is about my last visit. My daughter and I were there very recently for an examination. I mentioned to the doctor that I had misplaced her most recent eye prescription and requested a copy so that I could order her new contacts. When I was scheduling her follow up at the front desk, the lady charged me $50.00 for two pieces of paper with my daughter's prescription on them. I asked "Why I am being charged for a copy of an existing prescription, or for any prescription for that matter?" The explanation was poorly explained to me and I was told that I would not be able to reorder her contacts without this so I reluctantly paid the $50.00. I have never been charged for a prescription from any physician's office... ever. BEWARE if you go here that you will be charged just to receive a prescription for glasses or contacts before you leave their office or better yet go to an ophthalmologist's office that doesn't nickel and dime its patients. I hope this review helps both the patient as well as the office in question so maybe they consider reevaluating their policies.
I am editing this review to include the reply I received from Shavano Eye Center. ---
"Shavano Eye Center does NOT charge for copies of past eyeglass or contact lens prescriptions. We provide copies free of charge, and past prescriptions can be used for up to one year from the date of issuance. When a patient requests a NEW eyeglass or contact lens prescription to be issued on the date of the visit, we take new measurements for the new prescriptions. These measurements for new glasses and contacts are not part of the standard medical eye examination, so we charge a separate fee for the additional services. Shavano Eye Center's eyeglass and contact lens prescription policies are explained in both our intake paperwork and at the time of a patient's visit."
If you had READ my review thoroughly you would have noticed that I did NOT ask for a new prescription. I asked for a copy of my daughter's previous prescription as I had misplaced mine. Her appointment was only 6 months prior to this one, therefore there was NO new prescription request as it had not been a full year since her last measurements. I did NOT ask for measurements to be done or anything other and and I quote, "Can I please have a COPY of her prescription that was given to us at her last appointment.?"
I asked the lady at the desk why I am being charged for a COPY (not NEW) prescription and she replied "It's policy."
This facility likes to make skits about their patients and post them online on Tiktok. Beware if you choose to come here for care, that they might be posting about you unkindly.
We can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Whitney and her staff. My mom recently had bilateral cataract surgery and she had the best medical care in a professional and welcoming environment. We have referred Dr. Whitney to several of our friends and family and we look forward to continuing our eye health care with Shavano Eye Center.
It's a very quiet practice, the employees very friendly. Never have to wait long to see the Dr Whitney.
I had a great, 5 star experience at Dr. Teresa Whitney's Shavano eye center for my eye care. From a friendly greeting at the door, throughout the whole process of the exam, and with delivery of my medical needs after the appointment... everything was very well done. Dr. Whitney performed a thorough exam, explained everything with expertise, and gave me the confidence to trust her with her superb skills and knowledge to take care of my eye health with great quality care. The staff also were very welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly and I feel were 5 star in service. This has been my best experience at an ophthalmologist MD office and I will continue to visit for my eye care. They got my trust and confidence
