Appointment was for 9, didn't get seen until after 10! Us receptionist was very sick, coughing alot! Luckily she was wearing a mask! Was told they were under staffed!

PAIN-FREE Eye Injections! Dr. Sanjeeb Bhandari at Gulf Coast Eye Institute / Valley Retina Institute, P.A. is absolutely exceptional. My first eye injection appointment was in McAllen, and I was extremely nervous since it was my first time. Dr. Bhandari was wonderful--he took the time to help me relax and reassured me throughout the process. To my genuine surprise, I truly did not feel anything. When he said, "That's it," I actually asked him if he was kidding because I could not believe it was already done. My second appointment was just two days ago at the Weslaco location, and of course I chose Dr. Bhandari again. After my first experience, I would not trust anyone else. This second injection was exactly the same--completely pain-free. The staff at both locations were also very friendly, professional, and pleasant to interact with. From start to finish, both visits were excellent experiences. I highly recommend Dr. Sanjeeb Bhandari and his team. I did have to wait quite a while, as the office was very backed up. Did that upset me? Absolutely not. From my first visit, I learned that when it is your turn, Dr. Bhandari takes whatever time is necessary to ensure you feel comfortable and that all of your questions are fully answered. I greatly prefer that approach over being rushed in and out like cattle. We are individuals, each with different needs, and I truly believe the doctors at Gulf Coast Eye Institute genuinely care about their patients and take the time each person deserves. For that reason, I believe patience is important when appointments run behind. The doctors must be completely exhausted by the end of the day with the number of patients they see, yet the quality of care never feels compromised. I want to update my original review to reflect how this was ultimately handled. Initially, I scheduled the appointment for a very specific reason: I already had a valid prescription and was seeking low-dose atropine. I was told ahead of time that this would be prescribed, confirmed I was self-pay with no insurance, and was quoted $200, which I paid in full at the visit. The day of the appointment, the wait time exceeded 2.5 hours, and instead of atropine I was prescribed VIZZ (aceclidine ophthalmic solution) 1.44%, followed later by an unexpected additional bill. That said, after raising my concerns, the office fully adjusted the balance, which I appreciate. More importantly, Dr. Perez personally sat down with me, took the time to thoroughly explain my condition, and clearly walked me through why he recommended VIZZ over low-dose atropine in my specific case. He was professional, attentive, and transparent, and he also made it clear that if I still preferred low-dose atropine, he was willing to prescribe it. While the initial experience and communication were frustrating, I do want to acknowledge that the issue was ultimately resolved appropriately, and the follow-up discussion with Dr. Perez was thoughtful and informative.

I'm a new patient! Today was my first visit and it went well! The intake process was fast and uncomplicated! I must've had luck with the day of the week I had my appointment because the clinic was empty! There was one other patient already being seen when I got there. My appointment was @ 3:00PM and I was out of there by 3:45 at the most! I have a follow up in a month, hopefully things go just as smoothly as they did today!

I dearly LOVE DR. REFFELL. I am Very satisfied with his Professionalism and knowledge. He takes Time to LISTEN. And he take TIME TO EXPLAIN to make you understand more easily. I'm not at all pleased with the wait times at either Office. A patient should not have to Wait for 1-2 hrs to be seen in an office, regardless of what office. The people IN CHARGE should HIRE MORE STAFF AND NOT OVER BOOK PATIENTS. I will Not be back at the McAllen Office again. That place could be compared to a 3rd World Establishment! Almost inhumane! Packed wall to wall with patients with no good ventilation and the body odors and smells from being packed in a room with infants to Elderly patients is absolutely ridiculous! Your staff is not adequate.

I have been going to Gulf Coast eye institute on ridge road for years. This was my first visit to the Weslaco facility. I was taking in promptly and was very impressed with my new doctor. He has my total trust in my eye care
