Specsavers Opticians and Audiologists - Southampton

I have used both the vision and hearing services over many years, whilst the vision services have always been good, I have had more contact with the hearing services over recent years and I can say that the service has been exemplary. I purchased higher range hearing aids around 3 years ago and have had cause to have the receivers changed on one occasion and for a replacement on another. Both times my issues were handled expediently and with great customer care. I have engaged with a number of staff on my visits and without exception they have been courteous, professional and very friendly. I don't often write reviews, but am happy to report genuine satisfaction in my customer experience with Specsavers.

I went there for a standard eye test and had a very good experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. Based on the reviews, I specifically asked for Sheema as my optometrist, and I'm really glad I did. She took plenty of time and tested my eyes very carefully. She also checked my vision thoroughly with the new prescription and only finalised it after confirming that I was completely comfortable with it. I recently had an eye examination with Avira Benny at the Above Bar Street practice, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Avira is a true 'people person' who brings a rare level of empathy and warmth to her work. From the moment I sat down, she made me feel completely at ease, taking the time to listen to my concerns with genuine care. Her customer service is top-tier; she was incredibly thorough throughout the test and explained every detail clearly without ever making me feel rushed. It is clear that she has a real passion for her patients' wellbeing. It was very quick to be seen for the test, the optometrist was very knowledgeable and reassuring. I'm Portuguese so him being Spanish (sorry I wish I remembered his name) really helped with some of the questions I had about genetic concerns about sun exposed. Collection was more frustrating, as I had called ahead to pick up (due to only having 1 hour lunch break to do so) and I still had to wait about 10 minutes (otherwise would have given a 10)

I went to the Southhampton centre branch for an eye test, mainly to determine whether I needed varifocals. Had the test, was recommended to purchase the varifocals. I got two pairs of glasses in a decent amount of time. When I go for the fitting it is evident that varifocal element serves no purpose as it doesn't really improve my ability to read small print. But ok, I had been sold up for absolutely no reason other than to increase the sales person's commission, a waste of money but I can still use the glasses for seeing things at a distance. I am currently live in Greece so back I go. Within a couple of months the varifocal sunglasses I purchased developed a problem with the frames. They started to peel! I had bought a couple of pairs of the cheaper frames but still, peeling within a couple of months with not exactly a lot of use, really? I contacted Specsavers custom service via email and for the past five weeks have been receiving exactly the same apology for the Southampton branch not contacting me, but with a different sender's name. I would strongly advise anyone considering using Specsavers to pay extra and visit an optician which is actually interested in the customer getting the most suitable product and which offers an acceptable level of customer service. To be fair it was my own stupidity that put me in this position. I had reservations about going there. You live and you learn.

I had such a positive experience at my recent eye test in Southampton. The optician explained everything clearly and took the time to answer my questions, which I really appreciated. It made the whole process easy and reassuring. Thanks again for the excellent service -- I'll happily recommend Specsavers to others.
