BEWARE!!!
I was told my contact lens prescription was fine and that I had cataracts that could be removed "whenever you are ready, no hurry". Called to schedule a pre-surgical consultation and was told that there is nothing in my chart to indicate cataracts and the "Surgical Coordinator' didn't know why I was trying to have surgery.
Long story short, got a second opinion and I am seeing a real surgeon next week...
Don't waste our time, insurance and personal money on people that just don't care.
Totally incompetent. Tested my eyes but gave no prescription for glasses, just an oral comment that "not too different from past eye tests". Also, my eyes were bloodshot. Gave me a Prednisone prescription for 30+days. The drugstore filled the prescription and included drug company's written warning not to use for more than 10 days without an eye test for excessive eye pressure. Eye Associates Northern New England gave me a 30-day prescription and set my next apptmt. 30 -- not 10 -- days later. And, at that apptmt. renewed the prescription -- ignoring the manufacturer's warning to limit the medicine to only 10 days! Eye Associates' records do not include eye pressure test results. As a result of over-prescribing length of drug treatment and not testing eye pressure, I have serious loss of eyesight in my right eye.
I changed to Massachusetts Eye & Ear; they provided eye glasses prescription and prescriptions that reduced some of the eye damage caused by Eye Associates Northern New England's faulty prescriptions and lack of follow-up testing. The owner of Eye Associates recently lost his license for not paying taxes!
The owner/manager of the company, said there was no way for them to know about my Medicare coverage, when, its easy to go online, knowing I have Medicare, and check coverages. They initiated the appoinment, I asked 2 or 3 times about coverage, they assured me the eye exam was, (but clearly in any Medicare book it says no), and then sent me a bill for over $120.00. End of anything to do with them. Please, please, watch out for this company.
I can't say enough good things about this practice. When someone has an emergency they are totally there for you. At the time of my emergencies I wasn't even a patient. The first time, I had a sudden eruption in the corner of my eyelid. I was given an appointment with ophthalmologist, Dr. Haight, for the following day and she provided excellent care.
The second time I had excruciating pain under my eyelid. It was 7:00 PM on a Friday. The practice was closed for the day, but optometrist, Dr. Mawhinney, was willing to come from his home to the office to see me. It turned out to be a broken suture from corneal surgery I had had 6 years before. Dr. Mawhinney immediately made arrangements for me to see ophthalmologist, Dr. Phipps, the following Monday and gave me antibiotic drops to use in the meantime. Dr. Mawhinney spent time explaining the situation to Dr. Phipps before he saw me as well as some time while Dr. Phipps was examining me. Dr. Phipps was able to do the repair in office in a quick and painless procedure.
Needless to say, although I have had a very good relationship with my previous optometrist, I switched over to this practice because of their caring attitude and the fact that they employ 3 ophthalmologists as well as one optometrist. They are well equipped and willing to deal with emergencies. Dr. Mawhinney, Dr. Phipps, and Dr. Haight, THANK YOU. You are my heroes!
I would not recommend this facility. I was given a new RX but when I couldn't see with the glasses I returned and was told that the RX was correct and they didn't know why I couldn't see. The Optometrist said he did not know what to do? I thought that was his job. In over 40 yrs of wearing glasses I have never been told by an Optometrist they did not know why the RX was not right. He was at a loss as to what to do. I went elsewhere and the RX was changed. Very unprofessional.
Took my daughter their. They noticed she had vision problems. Knew she was walking into things . And chose to do nothing saying it wouldn't be cost effective. They wouldn't do drops . To see how bad her eyes are . Got a second opinion at shippe eye care . She is now properly diagnosed. And waiting for her first pair of glasses. Please don't worry about cost and insurance before worrying about the patient!
I have been going here for years for eye checkups and glasses and more and I have nothing but good things to say about the doctors and the staff. Very caring and helpful and professional.
Great people & Dr. Todd rocks!
