James River Eye, Optometry

I purchased a pair of glasses from James River Eye in late February 2026 and they are awesome. I got terrific service from Brittney and she was very patient with all my questions and changes in ideas. She helped me pick out the absolute best pair for me. Thank you! I have been seeing Dr. McGarry for a long time all the way back to when his practice was on Forest Avenue. He is a great Doctor and has great bedside manners. He always delivers great service and he is super kind. He even asks questions about how my family is doing. In addition, his staff is friendly, approachable, and helpful. The office staff is easy to get in touch with over the phone, which is a huge plus, and something I don't see as often in other Doctors' office. I give my highest review.

I do not understand why they have a low overall rating. I have been coming here for years and very single time I visit for an appointment, everyone is nice, caring, and understanding! I am seen quickly and Dr. McGarry is always thorough and nice. He may be quick with his procedures and visit with you, but I suspect that he has a lot of patients to attend to. Everything goes smoothly when I am there and I am never pressured with anything I don't want to do or with what I can afford. The office is always clean and tidy as well. I definitely recommend this doctor and office!

When you have had a horrible experience elsewhere, you are cautious as to who you will see next for your eyes. I had James River Eye recommended to me by a Facebook friend and I must say this was THE BEST experience I have EVER had at an eye doctor! From the staff when you first walk in, to the front desk girls, to the lady who preps you before the doctor, to the Doctor - I have nothing bad to say, what-so-ever! The doctor was amazing! The girls who helped pick out the perfect pair of frames were amazing and definitely made the experience fun! At the end, we all ended up at the front desk talking about Harry Potter because I stated a few of the frames made me feel like him. Everybody here is so personable and friendly! We shared laughs and I had a smile on my face the entire time I was here. To everybody at James River River - THANK YOU! Keep up the amazing work and customer service!

Dr. McGarry and his staff are friendly and have taken good care of me since I first stepped in the door. He always takes time to answer my questions with patience and professionalism. I have purchased my last 2 pairs of glasses from the office and have been very happy and satisfied with both.

This is by far the best eye appointment I have ever had! I had an appointment first thing in the morning and I was in and out in no time! The front desk staff, Desirea, was super friendly and inviting! The doctor was quick and efficient but didn't feel rushed! Claire was great to work with and was super patient while I picked out what glasses worked best! The entire process was great!

I HIGHLY recommend James River Eye and Dr. McGarry. The girls at the front desk are really nice and personable. Dr. McGarry gave me a thorough exam and was very patient and knowledgeable. I loved how many frames they had to pick from and the young lady who helped me pick them out knew exactly which frames worked best for my face size and shape. Best doctors visit of my life!!!

Stuff was friendly, thanks I had a horrible prescription. I needed prism, he added 4 on one eye and 1 on the other eye, First day, I tried it, my eyes were blurry, felt dizzy and couldn't use them. Although I got the most expensive lenses with all options hoping to keep them for few years and enjoy the best glasses. I showed the prescription to another Optometrist, he said, the prism should have been divided between the 2 eyes. I went back to my old glasses as I can't afford another pair of these expensive lenses.
