James River Eye, Optometry: Dr. Christopher McGarry

My wife and I just got our glasses upgraded after three years, and Dr. McGarry and his staff made it a pleasant and easy experience. The staff is friendly and helpful and Dr. McGarry is skilled and his prescriptions are accurate. We got our glasses sooner than expected and the fitting was quick and on target. I requested a custom focal length for my glasses and they're just right, I love them. We've been patients here for a long time and will continue to turn to James River Eye for our vision needs.

I brought my teen in to get a new Rx for glasses. After the exam, I couldn't get the prescription until I saw their follow up sales professional. I experienced extreme pressure and parental care shaming when I refused their upsell tactics. I actually had to plead for my prescription before I received it. There's many eye doctors to choose from in this area. I should have shopped around better.

Made an appointment over a week ago to get my annual eye exam. Dr. Mcgarry was my original eye doctor until he no longer took my insurance a few years ago so I had been going to Americas Best (awful). I came in to the office today and was told my appointment was last Tuesday not this Tuesday. I verified over the phone multiple times the appointment date and time and noone even called ne to confirm an appointment for last Tuesday or this Tuesday? They didn't even call when I "missed" the appointment. I advised that I had specifically requested the 24th because I was off and never have week days off. Was given a sorry and asked to reschedule but no other real resolution like calling to see if someone can shift their appointment or if they could squeeze me in (they said they couldn't). Needless to say I had to call around after leaving to find a random doctor to fit me in today. I am extremely disappointed in how this was handled and won't be returning.

Quality care at affordable prices. Great office staff. You can tell from the moment you walk in, this is a very good place to get treatment. Everyone in this office is first class, customer focused and smiling. I would not go anywhere else!!

Great Experience. It had been several years between check-ups, and they corrected my vision concerns for both distant and close range viewing. The staff was friendly and efficient. i would highly recommend this practice.

I was having discomfort. I explained that I was playing with my baby granddaughter and she hit me in the eye. I have reading glasses. He said my prescription was off and gave me a prescription for new glasses. I came back and said it was still bothering me and it is just one eye. He said I haven't had my glasses long enough. So after months of discomfort, I went to Virginia Eye Institute! They examined me and said I had scaring on my eye and I told me to use an over the counter eye drop. I still use it when ever I have discomfort works great! THIS GUY IS A FARCE! He got all kinds of my time and money and no help! I paid him for glasses round but the last appointment he told me nothing wrong I refused to pay for! THEY SENT ME TO COLLECTIONS OVER $65. This Place sucks!!!

Got hung up on by the office manager, holy **** see anyone else. Ellen is not only rude but will shell up behind being a southern belle so she can seem polite as she talks down to you.

I was traveling and needed a couple things. They helped me for free and were friendly.
