Tidewater Eye Centers

I give 5 stars to only Heather Ashley who is best eye doctor. I am writing this because I don't understand why the Tidewater eye center office has to charge a fee for the dmv administrator office is ordering or recommending a vision health exam when someone who renewaled. I called the doctor office to make a appointment with them. Then they didn't have to. Just dropped off the form. Never about a fee. They said that I had a appointment and I did. And they said their a fee for one form. Hopefully when I get there it will smoothly and graceful.

Each time I've come to the Academy Ave. location in Portsmouth it has had an overpowering smell. My husband and I had to wait outside the door near the stairs the first visit. When I asked about the smell, numerous individuals pretended like they didn't know what I was talking about and laughed behind my back. Once in the back a nurse told us that it was a cleaning scent they put through the vents. I felt marginalized and disrespected especially by the front desk staff. It was an awful experience! On my second visit for my husband's post-op appointment the smell was so overpowering I couldn't even get in the door. We had an early appointment so the smell had a chance to build up all night. I physically couldn't support my husband at his post-op and that's not ok! Even in the hallway by the stairs outside the office I had an instant headache. And no, I am not asthmatic. My inhaler is for when strong scents bother me or have respiratory infections. I had NO issues of that nature before either visit. Thankfully I still had an almost full inhaler that is rarely used. Both last time and this post-op appointment I ended up with an instant headache due to the smell and had to use my inhaler to balance my breathing. I pity and warn anyone with breathing issues who come to this location. The office off Military Hwy was fine. Doctors at each location were fine. I will never come back to this location! Not only because of the smell, but also the lack of respect and empathy for their patrons.

The staff is very nice and I didn't need any appointments. Doctor Edmonds was very helpful and answered all my questions about my eyes.

Spent a hour and a half getting an eye exam, where the technician smelled like marijuana the entire time. The financial commitment explanation and obtaining insurance approval was not explained very well.

I have been going to Tidewater Eye for many years. At my most recent appointment, the assistant did the usual eye chart tests. I was extremely surprised when he continued the tests, my doctor always completes himself, ie, eye pressure, etc. It was a little unsettling. When my new doctor came in, she never checked my eyes. She reviewed her assistants notes, and said everything looked fine.

Just called to schedule an appointment because of a referral from my dr and whoever answered the phone decided to put me on hold suddenly WHILE I was speaking then I was hung up on 10 seconds later. I'll get a referral somewhere else.

I am extremely disappointed in my experience with Tidewater Eye Center. Last fall I went in for a refraction for a new prescription. The technician mixed up my eyes on the prescription, so when I got my glasses, it was clear there was something very wrong. I went back to have my eyes checked again, and they discovered their error. I received a new prescription and was told that I would not be charged for the second visit. When my new prescription was ready, it still wasn't quite right, so I went back a third time. Each time I went back, I confirmed with both the technicians and at check out that they would not charge me for the additional visits which they confirmed, but they billed Medicare for those two visits and have been billing me for an additional $120 for 8 months now. And even though I have called and written to them about this, they have done nothing to correct it or reach out to me to discuss. Writing this bad review is my only hope that someone will take notice. ***Update. Thankfully, my billing issue has been resolved. I am grateful, but it took a lot longer than it should have.

The va beach office IN MY OPINION IS MUCH MORE personable and shows more concern for their Patients than PORTSMOUTHS LOCATION. THE LEVEL OF CARE FOR THESE MOST ELDERLY PATIENTS IS OBSURD. IN my opinion. I definitely hope this one is off as she has been sitting popping her gums for over 30 minutes
