Dr. Cotter been my doctor for many years now and I genuinely feel cared for every time I visit his office. Dr. Cotter always take time to listen to my concerns and explains clearly. I love the girls that working with a Dr. Cotter in that office. They are very professional and super friendly. I am feeling confident about my eye health every time I leave the office. I'm so grateful to have a great eye doctor and found someone so knowledgeable. I highly recommend him to anyone, he is the best!!!

It is always a pleasure to have my eye health cared for by this group of remarkable doctors. I've been a patient for years and several months ago had cataract surgery. It was an incredible experience from start to finish. I unconditionally recommend Vistar for all of your eye care needs; from routine eye exams to more complex issues.

Yesterday, on Jan. 13, 2026, I went to see Donald M. Scothorn, OD, and was delighted to receive a pre-visit from Madison Chisom, OD, Resident. It is very advantageous to have multiple locations to choose from. We go to both the Botetourt and downtown Roanoke locations on South Jefferson Street for our comprehensive and trustworthy eye care. I have severe dry eye, and since being under the care of Dr. Scothorn and, now, Dr. Chisom, my eyes have improved significantly. They are monitoring my eyes with both compassion and multiple treatments to improve my vision. My husband and I both feel incredibly grateful to have found such comprehensive Optometrists. One of the reasons we both enjoy and appreciate the care we receive is that we always feel so welcomed and are greeted and treated so kindly the moment we walk into either office. Dr. Scothorn never makes you feel rushed, even when it is evident that he is swamped. He nor Dr. Chisom also never neglect to explain in detail those things which he may find concerning, and therefore justifies all the different types of treatments. The reason his treatment is so thorough, in my opinion, is that he also takes into account any ongoing health issues that could be causing some of your symptoms. Dr. Chisom also reviews your care, does an examination, and then meets with Dr. Scothorn. Making the time and having the luxury of a secondary overall explanation and exam by Dr. Scothorn is a double treat. Overall, I am so pleased that both my husband and I feel as if we are important, that our eye care matters, and that we are treated with respect and dignity. The compassion received at both these locations is truly a comfort to us both. We have friends who do not have the luxury of all their senses, so we want to know that our eyes receive the best of care - and we are sure they do! Thank you to both Dr. Scothorn and "rumor has it" that Dr. Chisom may very well be working full-time with Dr. Scothorn after her residency is complete. Joni and Scott Caggiano

I had an appointment for the first time at Vistar in the 707 building and I must say that I was impressed. The staff was very friendly answered all my questions. The assistant helping Dr Casey that day was awesome and Dr Casey was has well. I did not feel rushed and Dr Casey explained everything regarding my ever changing eyes and vision. I purchased my glasses upstairs, I had a great experience there, I found at least for me it made more sense to get my glasses there then Sam's no more costly and better service.

I've received care at the Vistar Eye Center on Jefferson Street in Roanoke for many years. Dr. Cotter and his staff are AMAZING! Everyone in that office is kind, considerate, and always extremely helpful. Dr. Cotter is absolutely the very best. Not only is he very skilled and experienced, he is one of the nicest, most compassionate physicians I've ever known.

I was able to schedule my appointment in a very reasonable amount of time. Easy to park and enter the building. Check in was fast as well as the wait time from check in to optometrist. Very nice experience for this first time visit. I would recommend the Vistar at the 707 building in downtown Roanoke.

I had a wonderful experience at the 707 office for my eye exam. The staff and Doctor was amazing and I was in and out in no time. Definitely recommend if you are looking for eye care.

I have been treated for Glacouma at other facilities and I have to admit that Vistar is one of the best of the lot. Very well organized and reliable people at all times during my visits . They always made me feel special and my concerns were very important to them.
