Vision Plus of Oak Harbor

Such wonderful people work here - they are super knowledgeable and upfront about insurance stuff, they have so many pairs of frames to choose from, and they help you pick out what will look nice for your face shape. Highly recommend. They even know how to help with amblyopia, diabetes vision stuff and other niche eye issues.

I live in Port Townsend and this was the only place available at the time for medicaid recipients. I was told to make 2 appointments, one for vision and glasses and the other for an eye health check up. I did not want glasses but they insisted that came first. The first went fine. On the second I had car trouble and felt unsure of taking my car on the ferry to cross to Whidbey island. I canceled and was told from then on I would not be able to make an appointment but only call for immediate openings. Which is of course impossible with planning a ferry to get there. I'm now on a waiting list for 8 months from now for an actual eye health exam with another doctor. Im not sure why this policy was enacted. It's a bit bizarre and certainly unreasonable. A prejudice against out of town clients? Against medicaid recipients? Against normally perfect transportation gone wrong? What happens if the ferry can't run due to weather? (Which is fairly common) Time to rethink policy, folks.

I'm disappointed in the service and billing practices of this Vision Plus, and won't be back. There's a certain test that they push so you "may not need to get your eyes dilated", but vision insurance doesn't pay for it. I got this, paid out of pocket, and was told I would need to come in for a medical exam anyway. In the medical exam I had the same test done, that insurance didn't fully pay for, as well as got my eyes dilated. I feel like I paid for services twice and didn't get any real answers to my concerns. They note that vision and medical insurance can't be billed together, as that's fraud, but I'm not sure if making people have two appointments is much different. Everyone I've talked to that has gone to this Vision Plus has the same story which made me feel even more like this was a scam. On top of this, the glasses I bought are too big for my face and no one pointed this out - I'm not an expert, I just liked the way they looked. This is also a repeated theme in conversations about this location. I won't be back, and had to share my story if it helps anyone.

Very impressed! Walked in to get glasses for my daughter and, I didnt get her name, was so helpful asked my daughter questions and helped to find the best glasses! 100% would go back.

Have been seeing Dr Carlson a few years. Very good at explaining things. Staff is veru atentive and friendly.
