Melissa Barnhart, OD, PLLC

Dr. Barnhart was personal and professional. She provided pre lasik and post lasik assessment and follow-up. I always felt like she was being thorough and spent time explaining any abnormalities she saw. I never felt like she was unprofessional and always thought she was working within her license. I'd trust her with my eye care in the future and would highly recommend her to others.

This person is willing to use you as a guinea pig and unprofessionally venture outside of her scope of allowed practice if you would let her. Use their services with extreme caution. I am very disappointed with the services rendered from this person. She will take in appointments she is not qualified to assess and still charge for her inaction. I did not receive any professional remedy or course of action to do so. She was visibly offended by my insinuation that I would be seeking a second opinion as early as halfway into her examination as I could tell she was not the person to be making these decisions or actions. Her inflated ego was clearly bruised leading her to sacrifice any professionalism she may have offered, after my dissatisfaction, to her less than qualified assessment. She is not an accredited doctor that has the ability to invasively, in her words "scrape on your eye and potentially large amounts of bleeding would occur if she did so". Even after she insisted nothing she could do would remedy her opinion of my condition, she still offered me the response of "I mean, I can still scrape on your eye if it would to prove it to you" to prove to me her opinion was correct and that her efforts would lead to damage and not a remedy. On top of that, instead of having the ability to offer professional, clear photographic evidence of her opinion, she decided to whip out her cell phone and take less than high quality, inconclusive photographs to bolster her opinion through the scope that is only intended to look through with her eyes. Luckily I have had my fare share of professional doctors do and say the right things in the past about my eyes and I refused to let her hack away at my eyeball even at the behest of her original suggestion. She may be good at making determinations for prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses, but as her "OD" signifies, she is an Optometrist. She is NOT licensed or qualified to act as a "DO" which is a Doctor of Osteopathy, whom ARE medical doctors and have completed the same amount of education and training as an ophthalmologist. Once the determination was made by her about both of the conditions I arrived inquiring about, she should have stopped with her examinations and insinuation of begrudging invasion, and made a secondary recommendation to a more qualified individual. Unprofessional is my assessment, and I feel she does not deserve to charge my insurance for a non solution or any attempt at such. Once she determined I could tell she had no business doing what she was doing, she should have stopped and I would have accepted the recommendation, her admittance to her limited scope, and moved on, but now, I have submitted an official complaint and review of her charges to my insurance company. I refuse to let someone knowingly offer people services she is not certified to offer, without demanding corrective action or review. This is not one bit about money, this is about professional practice and actions taken by a medical professional who insists on being paid for unprofessional services rendered.

They are all incredibly nice, knowledgeable, and helpful! My favorite and forever eye care office!
