Evan Olson MD

I've had a long history of recurrent uveitis, a serious inflammatory eye condition that can threaten vision. Dr. Evan Olsen has literally saved my eyesight on multiple occasions and has always been incredibly reassuring during the toughest flares. He's kind, highly professional, honest, and takes the time to explain everything clearly. I can't recommend this eye doctor highly enough!

Dr Olson is not very professional and I had some interpersonal challenges with him as well. He did a cataract surgery on me September 25th 2024. His way of coordinating the distance at which the new lens would focus was to hold his hands out in front of him like he was holding a book. This is very imprecise. He needs to be using a yardstick or something to make it easy for the patient to see the actual result. Like a yardstick and an actual book. The end result of my surgery is that my focus is set too far out. I now have to wear glasses in order to see my glucometer or print on my phone. I did not have to wear glasses before. I am unhappy about this. I had one eye set to near vision and one set to far before this surgery and could see everything fine. When I pointed this out to him, he got very defensive. Blamed me for not reading the booklets they hand to patients (I did), said that he couldn't have set my eyes to one near and one far without a whole trial with contact lenses to prove my brain could handle it, when I came in with my eyes already set one near and one far, and was just generally unpleasant and making excuses. This is the interpersonal challenge I referred to. There was no apology, no offer of free glasses, no exploration of how to do better in the future. His staff did not pass my dissatisfactions on to Dr Olson when I described them. I finally had to ask to see Dr Olson to have a chance to express myself. I don't think he is technically deficient. However, I cannot recommend this surgeon or The Vancouver Clinic's ophthalmology department.

Very helpful, pragmatic, informative, knowledgeable, thorough and thoughtful doctor. Shared knowledge about the various IOLs now available and his concerns about each. He also offered a solution to help me decide what type of lens and correction I want to go with for a future cataract surgery. (I had right eye cataract surgery a year ago, and got a multi-focal lens, which I'm not completely happy with.) Staff and assistants were very helpful as well!

The Dr. Evan Olson is a great doctor. He listened attentively to my concerns, explained everything clearly, provided a plan how to manage my ocular migraine and make a headache diary. The office staff are professional and very friendly. The best doctor ever!

Dr. Olson is a wonderful eye doctor. He always took his time to exam my eyes and explain my eye problems very thoroughly. I highly recommend doctor Olson! Don't waste your time to search for other eye doctors, cause Dr. Olson is the one!

Today I went to see Dr Olson for a second opinion on my cataracts! He was very kind, listened to my concerns and gave me good information about cataract surgery. Great assistant, so sweet and kind. Best apt I've ever had with an eye doctor, highly recommend! Very thorough exam all around!
