My VERTIGO JOURNEY - For years I battled vertigo - a feeling of dizziness and nausea exacerbated by movement and light changes. I couldn't use escalators, hated elevators, avoided boats, buses and trains, had to sit in the front seat of a car, and had to wear acupressure bands and take medication to be able to travel in a plane. I saw numerous healthcare providers (who offered a variety of diagnoses), had hours of physical therapy, and by the summer of 2024 I was frequently in a recliner because I was too dizzy to function. I was referred to a major Chicago hospital to a leading ENT physician who proposed a complicated surgery where he would drill a hole in my skull and compress parts of the inner ear. I would most likely lose hearing in that ear, and face a challenging 6 week recovery. I said NO THANK YOU!
In the meantime, I learned about visual therapy for vertigo from an article that my eldest daughter found. My youngest daughter then had vision therapy in Colorado Springs, with great results. The physician there endorsed Dr. Knueppel. I was pleased with the positive outlook of the office staff, Dr. K., and my therapist Ethan. After 29 weeks of traveling to Madison every Thursday for visual therapy, I consider myself "healed" from vertigo, and have not had a debilitating episode for several months. Turns out my dizziness was not from the inner ear, but rather from my eyes not working together. I can now practice yoga, read in a car, ride in the back of a bus, walk onto an escalator with no symptoms of dizziness or nausea. I highly recommend The Vision Therapy Center.
I started experiencing headaches and issues with my vision following a car accident. I got a recommendation from my eye doc to come here. I've been working with Brian at this location for a few months now. I have been noticing a positive difference in doing the various exercises. I genuinely appreciate his candor and knowledge. He's taught me a lot about how eyes actually work.
I'm possibly one of the few adults receiving services here currently. I think that it's cute the have a prize section for the kids and a snack section (some for purchase). I've also been able to witness a few graduations. Everyone I have encountered here is helpful and friendly.
The location is easy to find. They are on the second floor. The entrance is on the south side of the building. Park in any uncovered spot.
I wish I could rate the Dr. and therapist separately from the office management team, however that is not the case. We worked solely with Dr. Shelley Kim and primarily with Ethan as my son's therapist and Dr. They were both knowledgeable, professional and easy to work/communicate with. I'd rate them both 5 stars.
However, the VTC as a whole is rather difficult to work with. There is no flexibility when it comes to scheduling or rescheduling appointments. I've tried to reschedule future appointments months in advance and was denied the opportunity and was told those spots were held for "new potential patients" which was rather insulting as a current paying patient. In addition, Kim jelinske, the office manager, was incredibly rude. I only interacted with her 3 times in the 8 months my son did VT and every interaction was negative. Her tone was consistently rude and condescending. I left each conversation with her insulted and with tears. Because of her alone, as well as the lack of flexibility as a whole at this facility I would not recommend anyone to The Vision Therapy Center.
I am so grateful for our experience with Dr. Knueppel, Dr. Kim, the therapists, and staff at The Vision Therapy Center. After years of others in the medical field dismissing concerns for my child's development and following my instinct and education I knew this was the best route to go to help my child move forward. I can only imagine the struggle my son would have had learning to read and participate to his best ability in school and sports if it was not for their knowledge and expertise. So grateful for the year of therapy and follow up care!
A routine eye exam by our optometrist recommended we get an evaluation at The Vision Therapy Center for our daughter. In 2nd grade, she was really struggling with reading, tracking from row to row, missing words, transposing letters and was constantly fighting us against reading. She was always yawning and rubbing her eyes even reading one paragraph. Our Vision Therapy evaluation showed us that she had convergence challenges, some primal reflexes that needed to be integrated and her proprioception needed work to help her understand the space her body occupies. We committed to a full year of Vision Therapy and the results have been absolutely amazing. Little by little with so many different little interesting exercises, our daughter was slowly improving. Ethan has been the most amazing therapist! He is calm, patient and was always coming up with little tips and tricks to help our daughter advance through the hardest exercises. My daughter very much enjoyed her time with Ethan. The at-home exercises were often a chore but she loved going to see Ethan every week. Having just graduated from her Vision Therapy, her stamina and interest in reading has increased tremendously. She can read for a longer time without getting tired, she can track from row to row and not miss words or lose her place. Had we not done Vision Therapy I am certain we would have needed to explore an IEP at school. Her eyes, brain and body needed these exercises on a fundamental level to bring her up to a "right on track" level with other kids her age. We can't recommend this therapy enough!! It is a huge expense but so very worth it!
The transformation my daughter had with her vision was just short of miraculous. After her initial evaluation, we found out she had double vision, limited depth perception, and limited peripheral vision. All of these have been corrected, and she no longer needs glasses! Her first pair of glasses was fitted by a different optometrist at five years old, preventing the formation of a lazy eye. At 12 years old, she became a patient at The Vision Therapy Center. She went from almost having a lazy eye to almost perfect vision. We can't thank Dr. Mo and the staff at the center enough. They were worth every single penny.
I had a wonderful experience as a patient at The Vision Therapy Center. Dr Kim did an extremely thorough exam and always was happy to answer all my questions. She was super kind and easy to talk to. Nothing ever felt rushed. Her knowledge and expertise in this specialized area of optometry was very evident.
Therapy activities were well explained - my therapist Brian did an awesome job and his years of experience showed as well. Each day of therapy was unique and customized to where I was at in the treatment program.
The office had convenient parking and location and fortunately was fairly close to home for me. Optometrists like this are hard to find in the Milwaukee area.
I felt the treatment was well worth the investment of time and money. My eye alignment has vastly improved for the first time in my life. I strongly encourage anyone who is struggling with their vision to consider this treatment option.
I'm so grateful a colleague recommended Dr. Knueppel. She is nationally recognized as a knowledgeable and trusted physician and service provider--and we wholeheartedly agree.
My son's program was long and challenging, but he worked with Andrew, who was a truly compassionate and dedicated coach. Andrew connected with my son in a way that built trust and made him feel capable and supported every step of the way. Andrew knew when to gently push and when to simply encourage, helping my son stay motivated without feeling overwhelmed. His guidance made all the difference.
We're thankful to the entire staff, but Andrew played a particularly important role in my son's journey. The growth in his confidence, skills, abilities, and independence is undeniable. This experience gave him exactly what he needed to move forward with a renewed sense of capability and self-belief.
