I've been using Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center for over 35 years. We love Dr. Martin. My husband and son also use Dr. Martin. I started out years ago seeing Dr. Maynor and at some point was switched over to Dr. Martin, both have been wonderful. Dr.Maynor retired earlier this year.

My normal eye doctor recommended Mitchell and Maynor for LASIK. I ended up going with Dr. Ramsey there and had surgery in June 2025. At every check up, my eye doctor frequently states how impressed he is with my results with Dr. Ramsey. My vision went from ~20/800 to now 20/15. Have not regretted this decision once and it was worth every penny!

My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Ramsey since moving to Fort Payne, Alabama five years ago. We have always been satisfied with his care and expertise in treating our eye issues. At least, satisfied until last week. I called the office to ask that our appointment be rescheduled because of a major health issue. The person in scheduling proceeded in telling me, in no uncertain terms, that if we canceled or were a 'no show' we would no longer be patients of Maynor and Mitchell. This came out of nowhere. If an appointment has to be canceled, we ALWAYS have the courtesy to call before the appointment date and reschedule. It wasn't even what she said, it was more the way she said it, as if she was threatening me. I told her not to worry about rescheduling, that I was firing THEM. What gives them the right to treat patients in this manner? I would never recommend them to anyone.

I have used Maynor and Mitchell Eye Center in 2021 and 2023 and had good results. I also referred my mom here and she had good results so that is the only reason this review has three stars and not one. When I needed to make an appointment for my niece who is 31 but is an adult disabled child in a wheelchair I unexpectedly ran into a problem. I mentioned she was an adult disabled child because I am her legal guardian and I had to explain to them (as I do with any appointment that I make) that I am in charge of her appointment scheduling and payment. As soon as I got the words out of my mouth, I was placed on a hold, and then the receptionist came back and told me that they lacked the equipment in order to give my niece a proper evaluation, and I said that I didn't understand because I presumed they had an elevator and they had handicap accessibility and I saw on their website they had an older woman getting her eyes checked, so I wasn't sure what equipment they were lacking. She started talking about people with mental disability and said "I don't know how to say this so it doesn't sound bad" and I said well it is sounding pretty bad and she said that the office manager made the policy that they have to refer patients who are have mental disability to a place where they can appropriately evaluate their eyes. I asked to speak to the office manager and the office manager was very nice and explained to me that they had some patients in the past who brought in mentally disabled kids or adults who were unable to sit still and communicate to the doctor during the eye exam. She explained to me that they didn't have the kind of equipment to evaluate someone's vision without feedback from them and I understood that. She said it happened before with one of their doctors and she tried to do the evaluation and ended up not charging the patient and referring them to someplace where they could get their eyes checked without communicating with the doctor during the examination. When I explained to them that my niece did communicate that she was naive and shy but otherwise could transfer to an examination chair and had no issues communicating with the doctor the office manager asked me to write an email explaining that she's under the care of a neurologist and what her condition is and everything that I told her so that the doctor can make a decision. She said either way they'd get back with me and refer me to someone if they could not see her. So I did that and I never heard back and I waited a week and then I followed up and emailed again sending another email to the office manager and said I've already found someone else who will see her so there's no need to respond. I never heard back so I understand if they have issues with their equipment if a patient can't communicate with the doctor but that was not my niece's case. Some unsolicited advice for them Is that they need to be clear with their office staff when communicating this. A simple question to a patient making an appointment and asking if they would be capable of communicating with the doctor during eye exam would omit feelings of prejudice and confusion. It's a shame because I otherwise really liked the doctor that I saw there. I would strongly advise that if you are a caretaker and you have a mother or father or any other relative that might be possibly not as cognitively strong as the average person once that you take this into consideration. Also, if you are the parent of a child on the spectrum, I would highly advise that you go search for a doctor with a staff and equipment capable of receiving patients with potential non-communicative disorders. I've made appointments for my niece all over the city and never ran into this before.

This is a review of Dr. Charles Reeder. I got a superficial keratectomy. You want a doctor who can explain things well and have good communication skills before and during the procedure. Dr. Reeder is an excellent communicator. He gave me good medical advice in preparation for my procedure, he had an after care plan in place that was explained. He made me feel comfortable and confident during the procedure itself. During the procedure his narration and communication was great at lowering anxiety and anticipation. I initially felt uncomfortable on the procedure table and he isolated the discomfort and quickly fixed it. (I think more numbing drops took away the sensation that was bothering me before we started.) He"s professional, intelligent, skilled and an excellent communicator.

I'm a patient of Dr Martin. She is a great doctor. The issue is the clinic side or administrative side. I had an exam in June and as of today December 23, 2025, I'm still waiting on a correct contact prescription. I have been given the wrong prescription several times, I have left many many messages but Erin doesn't return my calls. I have gotten prescriptions with the wrong cylinder for the contact brand, I have received a prescription without the contact brand. Erin called me on Friday evening apologizing for the last error and said she was faxing the prescription over to Sam's Club well as this morning Sam's Club before she left for the day it's Tuesday morning and Sam's doesn't have the prescription . I called on Monday complaining and asking to speak with a manager but no one ever called me back. Called again this morning asking for a manager and unfortunately she wasn't in but they would have her call me as soon as possible. I'm sure no one will call me back. I really hate this because I love Dr Martin. I hate it for elderly patients who might be getting the same run around or just hasn't realized they are getting wrong prescriptions. I need my contacts I have been wearing this pair since early November. I'm only suppose to wear them for 2 weeks. I'm clueless as to what I should do at this point.

The worst experience ever. Went to get a new contact lens prescription. Between not actually setting me up with a doctor who can prescribe contacts, then giving the the wrong prescription in one eye and having to reorder, it has now been two months and still no contact. Their vision center is the worst. Do not answer the phone and will not return calls! Avoid!!!!!

Dr. Mitchell is wonderful. Although he has preformed around 60,000 cataract surgeries he is still so sharp and present with my wife and I. We enjoyed the staff as well.
