Alaska Eye Care Center - Eye Doctors in Anchorage

I have been a patient for 8 years and my wife for longer. We chose your practice since you had Saturday hours and we received great customer care (it was a plus that I knew Dr. Reber from another setting and appreciated his demeanor). However, over the past several years your customer service has dragged bottom. Earlier this year I went to pick up a pair of glasses for my wife and was told to 'have a seat and someone will be with you'. After 15 minutes I was called up, and got my glasses and left. There is no reason for a simple pickup to take that long. When it was time for my appointment, I was told that the schedule was changing and Dr Reber wasn't available so another doctor would see me. I live far away and this trip had several purposes so I said fine since rescheduling wasn't an option. I only have problems reading, but let the doctor convince me to get 'progressive' lenses (yes it was my choice, but I only made it after being lectured twice about how much I would like the new ones and that even though I don't have trouble reading road signs far away that I would look back and appreciate the decision) I finally got my new glasses and the progressive lenses made it impossible for me to use my multiple screens at work without tilting my head back and exaggerating my side-to-side movement. I called and asked for some adjustments and was told to just stop by anytime. I live far away so on my next trip to Anchorage I stopped in and was told that I was two days past the date to have adjustments made. When I balked, the technician agreed to redo the lenses with straight readers like I have used for many years and which work well...but she made it seem like it was a decision she felt that she may get in trouble for since it was beyond the deadline. My replacement glasses arrived a week or two ago, and since you now charge $25 for shipping (it used to be free) I waited until I could pick them up. Today, my son made an unexpected trip to Anchorage. I called in to make sure it would be OK for him to pick them up. I waited on hold for 20 minutes and then talked with a representative who said he needed to ask someone for clarification. After 20 minutes the hold music stopped, said that you were sorry but I've called when your office is closed. I called back and waited on hold for ANOTHER 10 minutes before getting a callback and was told that he could pick up my glasses. I learned at my last visit that your practice was purchased by an outside conglomerate, and it appears obvious that your new owners are more concerned with profits and upselling than with customer service for returning clients. If I don't hear a reasonable response about why it is SO difficult to do business with you I'll be looking for a new provider for my family's eyecare needs

I had very good eye care from Dr. Thanepon, who retired several years ago. The doctor she reassigned me to was very dismissive and did not appeal to me. I do not recall his name. I found a new eye provider and am very happy with my new provider who operates his office on time and with much more modern equipment. It has been two years since my last appointment at AK Eye Care and transfer of all my records to my new provider. I am still receiving phone calls and texts harassing me to make another appointment. I will never return to Alaska Eye Care Center.

This was my first time there, so I would have appreciated being told they charge 5% credit card fee, before I had no other option. Also since they have that fee I would have thought their prices would have been better. Doctors were very nice and seemed knowledgeable.

I have had care by a couple of Doctors there and Dr Ladd Nolan had been my primary care doctor and he's the best!! Very through in keeping up with changes in my eye health!

I found this place looking for a third opinion. I have really bad experience with the first office and I did not feel like a was in a very knowledgeable place on the second office. When I came in for myself appointment the first day I saw how professional the doctor was and she was able to fix my wrong prescription right away, then I decided to bring my son to them and it has been the best decision I ever made. The offered my son treatments that nobody ever talked about. I felt I have came to a great place. My son has been on mysight therapy with has been amazing. He has seen so far 3 different doctors (I have seen 2) ALL OF THEM amazing. Very knowledgeable and always answers questions and take time for you. I highly recommend this place. In my opinion the best in Anchorage

My experience with Alaska Eye Care was extremely pleasurable. I have been a long time customer of Southside Dimond Vision but when changing my health insurance they waited until I was at my appointment to advise me of out of network. Alaska eye care WAS in my Federal BCBS network and they immediately gave me an appointment and am I glad they did. I felt comfortable and well informed about my care and not pressured with additional purchases and given choices to my vision care. This is my choice for vision care from now on and I would recommend them to others for fast efficient treatment and care and customer service. Great place with a great choice of frames for every budget. I wish I had known about them sooner. Dr Clemons was great!!!!!

I've been coming here for 16 years, but today is the last. Insurance issue that is not office fault, but once I got on phone and spoke to the insurance company the front office gal would not get on the phone to verify. She wanted it updated on the website. Would not go the extra mile and provide customer service. She asked another office staff to help me. I handed him my phone with the insurance company on the line and they verified with him in less than a minute so I could be seen. Done. The issue is this all could have been solved if the office gal had done her job in the first place. VSP isn't showing you covered. CALL THEM! I did her job for her and she wanted me to calm down for being pissed that she would not do her job. I will not have my family continue at this office. Too many other competitors out there now to kit up with this crap.
