I went for my annual exam recently and saw Dr. Haberman. A tech person, Clayton, did all the preliminaries. The staff here is excellent and Clayton specifically. He used all the machines like an expert. They have an extensive children's product supply here, if you need it. And their top-of-the line cosmetics are available plus many more frames and supplies too.

My experience at Makar as a new patient was overall ok. Not great, not awful. The exam was thorough and the initial technician was awesome. Everyone was quite friendly. What I found unfortunate was the billing. I should have been more observant considering when I walked in there is signage for an optical Med Spa. This is a boutique eyecare place with prices that are 2 times higher or more than most other places in town. Even the prices of their eyewear is significantly inflated. I've been going to Lenscrafters for years and their annual basic eye exam has always been between $99 and $149. I know Lenscrafters isn't the best there is, but I've always been treated kindly and I always leave with Raybans or Oakleys for a reasonable price that allow me to see well. Just figured I'd try a new place. Makar charges $350 for a basic new patient exam before any additional diagnostics. That's not the end of the world as everyone deserves to make a profit, just wish they were more upfront about it. They hit you with that at the end.

They clearly care more about being a med spa and taking money than being an honorable business. I had a routine eye exam in November when I was with the tech I mentioned that I had dry eyes, and he proceeded to take my tears to test. I didn't think anything of it, and nothing was told to me at the time. When I went to check out, I had an additional fee of $135 for this tear testing. I let them know that at no point during my appointment was I told this was an additional test out of the ordinary and that it would be an additional expense. The girl at the Front Desk went to talk to the office manager, Shannon. They said they would reach out to the provider and that they would reach out to insurance to see if they could cover any of it. I recently received a bill for $101 with insurance covering almost $35. I left two different messages for Shannon trying to get to the bottom of this bill as again I did not consent and did not know of the extra charge at the time that the test was rendered. At the time of the appointment in November the Front Desk girl said that she would be notating my account of all of this information. So it was a bit of a shock when I just got off the phone with billing today (2/16) and they had zero notation in my account that anything had occurred and that I had any issues about my bill. The billing person proceeded to tell me that this is what I owed she would notate my account and she would reach out to the provider at that time. I got extremely frustrated because that is what I was told was happening at the time in November, not a thing has been notated in my account and I have no faith in this business anymore.

Their offices are more beautiful every time I come in, however I feel less cared about as a long-term patient. The doctor, while very knowledgeable, was very rehearsed and spoke very quickly as he shared information about my condition. He then passed me on to the next technician, who seemed impatient. I felt no feeling of welcome or genuine concern from the staff, except for Alex, the young technician that did my initial tests.

Its been over a year since Ive been back to this place so this review is delayed. It used to be great! But the billing department never answers their phones and I basically had $180 stolen from me because of the incompetence of the front desk staff and the billing department. I went there for multiple years without complaint and then everything went to crap. I will never go back to this place.

A friend needed me to accompany her to Makar Eyecare this past week and I was very impressed. The staff was professional and accommodating and the facility was lovely. The comfortable waiting area included a great space for kids. Their selection of glasses was very extensive with frames available in all colors and price points. Dr. Clark took his time to explain procedures and answered all our questions patiently. With weekend hours they are able to accommodate those with hectic weekday schedules as well.

Had three visits within the last three weeks, and all had longer than what I thought was normal wait times. Today I walked in at 3:26PM and immediately signed into the iPad ONLY to pick up my glasses. I immediately received a text saying I was #3 on the list and that it was almost my turn. After waiting for 30+ minutes I decided to start walking up to the front to ask what the hold up was, but only then someone calls my name. The tech was apologetic and said that someone may have accidentally clicked on my name. The front desk gossip and chatter should be kept to a minimum--they weren't very attentive to the people coming in and out of the office (not to me at least), or the four other people waiting in the lobby. The techs are very nice once you are finally brought back. I suggest planning to be at their office for awhile.

I have been a patient here for several years. The doctors themselves are excellent, but the office staff is consistently the problem. On multiple occasions, I have been billed small amounts months after my visits, with the excuse that I was "charged incorrectly" at the time of service. The last incident was the final straw. At the start of the year, I ordered a full year's supply of new contacts based on my doctor's recommendation. Before placing the order, I made it clear to the staff that I did not want to be surprised months later with additional charges--I wanted everything settled upfront. When my contacts arrived, they were the wrong order. Mistakes happen, and I was told to use them while waiting for the correct ones to arrive. After over a month, the correct lenses came in, and I exchanged the incorrect order without issue. At that point, I was under the impression everything was resolved. Months later, I received a bill in the mail for $297--without a single prior notice during my many visits. When I called to address it, the billing staff was dismissive and unprofessional. I explained the situation and that everything had been paid in full, yet I was told the charge was due to an earlier "incorrect billing." I will pay this balance simply to be done with the matter, but I will never return. The lack of transparency, professionalism, and respect for patients is unacceptable. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely not.
