Overall I had a very good experience here, there were a few hiccups where tools or instruments they were using did not work, But I had a sudden onset of blindness and they helped to process me towards the next step. The doctor I saw was quick and efficient, I think that if potentially you were looking to have an office spend significant time drilling down to issues this may not be that type of place it seems more suited to processing as many people as possible for very important issues. Originally they had the states only neuro-ophthalmologist working there, but several months prior to my visit unfortunately they retired or for one reason or another were no longer practicing medicine and so I will have to go outside of Alaska to get continued treatment. Anyhow the testing they performed was more information that I needed for a bigger medical issues that I'm dealing with and they helped to get that done.

Arrogant doctors that could care less about you, they wont do anything unless you sign waivers to release them from all responsibility, and know-it-all, arrogant receptionists. Fun. And they repeatedly fail to properly submit my prescriptions on top of all that. So done with these entitled people. Terrible. Tolerated this nonsense for 4 or 5 visits but no more. Also they are trying to bill as high as possible and take advantage of you and your insurance as much as possible. Tried to be understanding and kind as I understand there are also some good people doing good work but this place is awful.

This review addresses my experience with administrative personnel at Ophthalmic Associates. I was referred to the practice by an Opthalmologist at another practice. I saw the doctor & received little or no input but received an appointment card for a follow-up on December 30, 2025 at 1:00 pm. I was considering cancelling the appointment & going elsewhere when I received a call from the office wanting to set up an appointment. When I said I already had one scheduled for 1:00 pm on December 30, I was rudely told that I did not and was hung up on although I have a appointment card that clearly states the the 12/30/25 appointment. Given the administrative deficits in the organization, I wouldn't be surprised if I am charged for a December 30, 2025 appointment that I was told I did not have. Needless to say, I'm making arrangements for my opthalmic care elsewhere.

Doctor and procedure I had done was ok. The bad was I called over 3 times never got a call back could not get prescription worked out between pharmacy them and insurance and never ended up getting it. Fortunately my eye didn't get infected. Would not recommend this place.

After several tests I learned that my vision is 20/20 and my eyes are doing well. At my age I expected to hear my vision wasn't as sharp, but the doctor said I'm doing well. If you're visiting the Ophthalmic Associates I hope you have positive news too, however I'm confident that you're in the right place no matter the situation. Parking is a little strange here, but there is a parking lot next door and it's free. Make sure the parking sign says, "Ophthalmic Associates" or you're in the wrong parking lot. There are stairs, many stairs, so expect a mild workout to visit the waiting rooms and restrooms. Cell phone coverage was fine downstairs, but the Internet connection will be much slower. MALPRACTICE. NO EMPATHY. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, I had a scheduled 10:00 a.m. appointment with Dr. Eileen Myers for a routine eye exam. I have a history of dry eye syndrome, and I specifically wanted to discuss concerns about dry macular degeneration, as my mother was recently diagnosed with it. I inquired about preventive measures during the visit. In previous appointments, I had explicitly stated that I did not want my eyes dilated unless it was absolutely necessary, due to my history of aura headaches, which can be triggered by such procedures. After Dr. Myers examined my eyes and addressed my questions about macular degeneration, she appeared ready to conclude the visit without reviewing the retinal images that had been taken earlier by a technician. At my insistence, she pulled up what she presented as my images. She quickly reviewed them and alarmingly stated that there was an issue with my left retina, indicating early onset signs of macular degeneration. She insisted on dilating my eyes for a closer examination, despite my clear prior objections and visible distress. This revelation caused me immense emotional turmoil--I began crying out of fear for the potential diagnosis and anxiety about the dilation procedure, given my headache history. Dr. Myers showed no empathy or compassion; her demeanor was cold and dismissive. She proceeded to administer the dilation drops without addressing my concerns and instructed me to wait in the lobby for 20 minutes. I waited over 30 minutes before being called back. Upon re-examination and further review of the images, Dr. Myers casually admitted that the images she had initially shown me belonged to another patient. She was unable to locate my actual images from the pre-exam scan. She then declared that my eyes were fine, laughed off the entire ordeal as if it were inconsequential, offered no apology for the error or the unnecessary distress it caused, and promptly escorted me to the checkout desk. My husband, who accompanied me, immediately raised the issue with both the receptionist and the technician who had taken my images. They assured him that my correct images would be emailed to me for review, but as of the date of this letter, no such email has been received. This incident is not only a clear case of malpractice--reviewing and diagnosing based on another patient's medical records--but it also reflects a profound failure in your clinic's protocols for patient data management and verification. The unnecessary dilation exposed me to avoidable physical discomfort and risk, exacerbating my anxiety and potentially triggering health issues. Moreover, Dr. Myers' complete lack of bedside manner, empathy, and accountability during this traumatic experience has left me feeling undervalued and unsafe as a patient. As someone who has relied on Ophthalmic Associates for quality care, this has eroded my trust in the clinic's medical competency and overall professionalism.

I found the doctors and staff very nice, trusting and professional. Until eleven months ago when I agreed to Cataract Surgery. I was looking forward to the procedure as Dr. Morgan informed me that my vision would be brighter and better, that I wouldn't need glasses, except for very fine print. I trusted the doctor, she was so sweet and I trusted that she would know if the new lens would be better than what I had. I believed her when she informed me that she could make my vision better and insurance would cover the procedure. But they were not better, now I would give anything to have my old eyes back. To see detail again, to read without my eyes becoming tired and blurred. The only one that benefits from the two surgeries was the doctor and business, as surgery is a profitable procedure, even if you don't need it. My world is not brighter, not better and my left eye has floating fibers, causing me to feel off balance. My nearsighted vision was taken with the new lens and I currently have to wear progressive glass. I have had follow up appointments with all three doctors in house and was informed my lens look great and the fibers have nothing to do with my lens. I still have trouble reading and some print I can not read at all, even with my glasses. I have lost trust with the doctors in this office as I feel I was deceived and taken advantage of due to my age. I left this office with less vision, then when I first walked through their doors a year ago, as they made my vision worse, not better. My next eye appointment will be with another eye office.

I had a wonderful experience with the entire team. Dr. Langford was especially attentive and thorough in examining my eyes, identifying issues I hadn't realized were there. I'm looking forward to my first eye surgery with Dr. Shatten! The building itself is a beautiful historic 1910 structure, and I loved being able to see the historical artifacts inside. Highly recommend this team for both their care and the unique setting!
