Otay Ranch Eyeworks Optometry

I have worn glasses or contacts for over 40 years and dealt with dozens of optometrists across multiple states. Otay Ranch Eyeworks Optometry is, without question, the single worst provider I have ever encountered--by a wide margin. My son has progressive myopia and has been successfully using MiSight contact lenses for nearly three years to slow the progression of his condition. These lenses were prescribed and managed responsibly by previous optometrists without any of the outrageous demands we faced here. In December, during a routine family eye exam, my son reported increasing blurriness with his current MiSight lenses. We were told the optometrist present that day does not handle contact lens fittings, so we purchased new prescription glasses and scheduled a separate appointment with the "contact lens specialist" three weeks later. At that follow-up appointment--after already having a full annual exam less than a month earlier--we were blindsided by a technician informing us that we would be required to pay approximately $1,000 upfront for the "MiSight fitting package," which supposedly includes four mandatory quarterly follow-up visits to "verify efficacy." This requirement has never once been imposed on us in three years of using MiSight lenses. No other provider has demanded such an exorbitant, non-negotiable block payment for ongoing monitoring of a lens type my son has already been safely and effectively using long-term. Even more unacceptable: I am active-duty military and our family is PCSing out of the area in early spring. We would only be able to attend one of the four required visits before relocating across the country. We asked for reasonable accommodations--any one of the following: Itemize and let us pay only for the single visit we can actually attend Provide the updated prescription so we can order the medically necessary lenses through a reputable third-party vendor (e.g., Mott Optical) Release the prescription so our established optometrist in Virginia can continue his care Otay Ranch Eyeworks flatly refused all reasonable options. They would neither itemize, nor release the prescription, nor work with us in any meaningful way. Their position effectively means they are willing to let a child with documented progressive myopia go months without the only contact lenses proven to slow his disease progression--all to protect their $1,000 package revenue. That is not just inflexible; it is unconscionable and borders on predatory. This practice shows a complete disregard for patient welfare, especially that of a minor with a sight-threatening condition. It prioritizes profit over a child's long-term eye health and exploits military families facing permanent change-of-station moves. After four decades of dealing with eye care providers, I can state unequivocally: Otay Ranch Eyeworks Optometry is the most unethical, patient-hostile, and money-driven practice I have ever encountered. Avoid this office at all costs. There are many competent optometrists who will treat you and your children with basic respect, honesty, and concern for actual medical needs rather than forced high-dollar packages.

I had a great experience at Otay Ranch Eyeworks Optometry. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and very professional from the moment I walked in. The optometrist took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure I was comfortable throughout the exam. They had a great selection of frames, and the team helped me find a pair that fit my style perfectly. The whole process was smooth, quick, and stress-free. I really appreciate their attention to detail and excellent customer service. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for quality eye care in the Otay Ranch area!

I was helped by Thalia, Lani, amd Dr Kim and was so happy I came to this optometrist. They make you feel like family when you walk in and care about the care they provide for you. Dr. Kim loves what she does and is very detail oriented with her eye patients, Lani left such a first great impression when first greeted by her, and Thalia went above and beyond when showing me the different glasses and contacts options that my insurance covered. At the end when choosing my lens, Thalia was very patient and kind and even helped with different options to see what I felt most comfortable! She really went above and beyond and her customer skills are superb! You can tell she loves helping customers! I don't think I've ever walked into an optometrist location with this amount of care and customer skills. I will definitely be returning to this location and recommending to family and friends!

Always a great experience at Otay Ranch Eye Works! Great staff, great quality work, affordable prices, and will work with your insurance. Great atmosphere and a great choice of eyewear. Can't ask for more!

Nice place. The receptionist is the one that does the basic check which wearing a genes and sweater doesn't appear a serous setting. all glasses to try on are locked up.. area of concern there are no equipment sanitation between patients from what I saw. The common use area where you put your chin, forehead did. I did not see any sanitation wipes used on all the equipment. .. then, they only gave me one of two prescriptions for me to seek outside vendor for glasses, which wasted my time at the place I was selecting glasses. When I called back they said they would email me the prescription

This is by far the best optometry place in Eastlake, the staff is courteous and knowledgeable. I have to give kudos to Dr. Brown. All exams are explained, as well as the coverage from our insurance so we know what options are covered.

I take my entire family here because of the fast and easy process for one and also because our Dr is always interested and concerned with my and my family eyecare as well. The staff is always very friendly and helpful too. I never feel rushed which I appreciate very much.

I made today's appointment weeks ago online and provided all of my current vision plan information at the time. So, I went today, and they had printed the information from my previous vision insurance. When I informed the lady at the front desk about my new insurance, she responded in a very condescending manner, stating that the company I mentioned was my regular health insurance, not my vision insurance. I had to show her my vision plan card on my phone and verbally mention the plan's name so she would proceed with my appointment. Although young, this lady is very experienced and knowledgeable, which is why I find it hard to believe her attitude wasn't intentional. She must have thought I was illiterate. I should mention that I confronted her about her ill-conceived response, and she claimed it wasn't personal, but it was. If not to her, it definitely was personal to me. Also, the machines I was being tested on before seeing the optometrist magically malfunctioned. I just decided to leave and never return. I know I'm just one person, and losing me as a client is insignificant to Otay Ranch Eyeworks, but it still hurts because I had been a customer since 2016. Although it wasn't the friendliest place (in my opinion), I always appreciated its professional atmosphere, which sadly came to an end today. I wish them all the best of luck.
