Dr. Sandy Zhang, MD

I had a very complicated case with very extensive scar tissue in my left eye as a result of a failed glaucoma surgery. My globe (eyeball) was scared to my upper eyelid and the orbital bone. I could not open my eye or move it properly. I went to multiple specialists that were all discouraging and declined to try to repair my eye and eyelid because it would likely not be successful and possibly make things even worse. Dr Zhang was friendly, confident and optimistic that she could help me. She explained that it would take 2 surgeries and a great deal of time and patience but she was quite hopeful. She is an excellent communicator and takes the time to explain things well. Due to her amazing surgical skills and willingness to innovate and do hard things I am back to normal today. My left eye and eyelid work normally and all of my friends are still commenting on how good my eye looks. She is a true gem among the oculoplastic specialists and I cannot recommend her more highly. I am very grateful to her and her team at USC Roski Eye Institute. They are improving lives and making a real difference!

Dr. Sandy Zhang-nunes, MD is the best doctor you will ever have. She certainly is mine. Let me tell you why. I suffer from blepharitis, rosacea, and dry eye. All this resulted in a stye on my left upper eye lid. It was monstrous and angry and I started to treat it immediately. It persisted for over 2 1/2 years. Doctors did not know what to do with me. They kept giving me injections which resulted in black eyes but my stye never changed. It was a nightmare. And that's when I found Dr. Zhang. When I first came into the office (at the Roski Eye Institute) I was stunned by how spacious and calm and modern it was. It felt like a fancy hotel lobby. The reception was unbelievably swift, organized, and welcoming. Which, as I'm sure most of you can agree, is rare. When I was brought to my room and Dr Zhang came in she met an already defeated patient. The last thing I wanted was to get beat up by a doctor again but I didn't know what else to do. I was desperately hoping that maybe this doctor could miraculously turn things around. And she did. She explained in detail this cutting edge treatment called bbl and how she would customize it to my specific medical needs. It was a process rarely done and she was leading the charge of its development. She even teaches the technique. After a thorough and patient detailing of the process she brought out the special golden eye shield contacts which were literally the coolest. I honestly thought it sounded like something from the future but within minutes I trusted her more than any other doctor I'd ever met and went for it. And it worked. The giant disgusting stye is gone! I've been seeing her for over six years now and I'll never see anyone else. She is a brilliant ophthalmologist and you could see that by the way she carries herself, by the way her staff respects her, and by the work she's done. She's worked miracles. I've seen before and after pictures that are mind blowing. But most of all my own progress has been nothing short of astounding! And after so much time wasting thousands of dollars on painful and ineffective treatments I truly thought I was going to have a deformed eye for the rest of my life. I'm so glad life put her in her my path. And so deeply grateful. But Dr. Zhang really stands out because she takes the time to really connect with you as a patient. I've always felt rushed when I see doctors, like I need to burn through my questions as fast as possible because they only have a short window to see me and I don't wanna be that guy. But if anything, she keeps you in the room. She asks me about my niece, and we talk about Disneyland trips and our plans for the future. She takes a genuine interest in you as a patient and remembers everything. And when she's Performing the procedure on you she is calm, incredibly attentive, and fast. She always checks in to make sure you're feeling OK, and asks you tons a follow-up questions to make sure your sound in body and in mind because sometimes the procedures hurt. But she's got your back. (Quick shout to Xinia. I'm not sure of her title but she's always the one that takes care of me right before the appointment and applies the numbing cream etc. She hangs out with me and makes me laugh and puts me at ease. She's a fantastic Robin to Dr. Zhang's Batman and I'm always relieved when she's the one that opens the door and brings me to the back.) Run, don't walk, to Dr. Zhang if you ever need the best ophthalmologist in town. She exceeds all expectations. I don't know what they are paying her but she deserves a lot more give her a raise! She is in high demand for a reason, so book your appointment ASAP. You won't regret it.

Excellent eye doctor who saved my left eye from losing all vision. Very thorough and detailed. Explained syndrome and procedures clearly. Showed genuine concern for patient's well-being. Good followup after surgery. Strongly recommend!!!

Great expirence overall I went in and met with Dr Zhang and the next day she performed the procedure her and her staff made me very comfortable and confident with the procedure. I recommended anyone having eye issues to give her a call people still don't believe I had eye surgery 2 months ago.... Thanks Dr Zhang you are most definitely the best!!
