Dr. Shawn Lin, MD - UCLA LASIK & Cataract Surgery

Dr. Lin and his team are the GOATs! Got my LASIK here, and couldn't be happier. I've researched long and hard, and have read all the cautionary tales on LASIK, and eventually picked Dr. Lin's team. They are very thorough with the entire process that involved pre-ops, and follow-ups. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Lin explains things very well and genuinely wants to help his patients. If you have any ounce of doubt in your eye procedures, you should spend the extra effort in seeking the best care, the most experienced hands and the industry leading tech for your eyes. Really glad I did and found this place. And grateful I am seeing sharp and clear

Just completed my second cataract eye surgery, and my vision is better than ever!!! Can't say enough about how great Dr. Shawn Lin, MD, is for cataract and refractive surgery!!! He was chosen as one of the top 2.5% of doctors in Southern California by his peers for good reason. Kind, caring, super conscientious, and patient. He answers all my numerous questions and explains every step of the procedure, plus excellent follow-up on surgeries. I have every confidence in him and his team. It was worth waiting over a year and changing health insurance to find a doctor like Dr. Lin for my cataract surgeries. It's like a miracle to have my vision not only restored but better than it ever was before! I could see clearly as soon as I was sitting in recovery after surgery!

Dr. Lin and his staff are the best. I read his biography and qualifications online, called his office and made my appointment. I live in Lancaster and it was worth the 100 miles journey to see Dr. Lin at Jules Stein. His bedside manner is comforting, knowledgeable, exudes empathy and answered all my questions and made recommendations regarding my surgeries which I accepted. My surgeries were performed without complications and I cannot believe what my eyes can see now with the cataracts gone and new lenses implanted. Dr. Lin is truly a gifted surgeon with compassion who truly cares for his patients. His optometrists and office staff complement his patient care excellence.

It's difficult to know just where to start with this review, but I will start with the humanity and kindness that I found in one, Dr. Shawn Lin, and his amazing staff at UCLA. I was referred to Dr. Lin by a family member whom Dr. Lin performed what turned out to be a miraculous result as his case was complicated and very delicate. I am a 53 year old woman who has been extremely near-sighted my entire life, depending on "coke bottle" thick glasses and/or extremely powerful contact lenses for the last 40+ years. Unfortunately, and seemingly very early, I developed cataracts in both eyes. I had my first cataract surgery about two years ago with a multifocal lens implant in my left eye. The professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail made a significant impact on my patient experience. From the thoroughness of my eye examination to the way he explained my condition and treatment options, Dr. Lin demonstrated a level of care and dedication that truly sets him apart. Surgery is scary enough, but intricate eye surgery was next-level scary for me. Dr. Lin treated me with such compassion and empathy, explaining exactly what was necessary to achieve the best vision outcomes for me. After my first surgery, I waited 2 years before doing my other eye, which was the right decision for me because how my eye healed helped inform how my other eye would heal. As I write this review, I am 3 days post-op from the second surgery and lens implant and with tears in my eyes, I am overcome with gratitude at how life changing these procedures have been for me. Waking up and being able to see clearly without having to reach for glasses or pop a lens in my eyes has never been my experience before, but it is now! To say I'm satisfied with my outcome is an understatement. I cannot thank Dr. Lin enough for the outstanding care and results I received. Dr. Lin is not only highly knowledgeable, gifted, and passionate about his craft, he's also incredibly patient and kind. Though I'm sure he treats all of his patients the same, I really felt like he took ownership of my case and was committed to improving my eye health as well as giving me the gift of clear sight. He took the time to explain every step of the examination and addressed all my concerns thoroughly. I am forever grateful for his expertise, resulting in clear vision even just a few days post-op on my second eye. Another point to note: I have so much faith in Dr. Lin's ability to give me the best visual result, I chose doctor Dr. Lin to do my second eye surgery even though at this point, my insurance considers ULCA to be out of network. Yes, I paid cash for my second surgery because I wanted the BEST doctor and I have NO REGRETS. If you're looking for an ophthalmologist that you can trust who truly cares about his patients, I highly recommend Dr. Shawn Lin and his team of specialists, technicians and administrators. He is one of the finest doctor's I've had the pleasure of knowing and he goes above and beyond for his patients, and I am so grateful for his help! He takes great care to walk you through the process, providing useful video reminders with critical information and follows up to ensure a seamless experience. My life has changed and I couldn't be more excited about clearly seeing and experiencing all of the wonderful things in my future. The entire staff is excellent. Dr. Roxana Khorrami, and Dr. Lin make a dynamic team as they are both very professional, warm, and compassionate people. Thank you Dr. Lin, to you, and your staff! Your expertise has made an incredibly meaningful difference in my life, and I am deeply grateful. I recently had cataract surgery on both of my eyes. After reviewing several doctors to perform these surgeries and after receiving several referrals, I selected Dr. Lin and his UCLA team for the surgeries. Dr. Lin was outstanding. His communication system allowed me to learn of several options and to understand each step of the process. Dr. Khorrami was also extremely helpful in answering my many questions. In my first meeting before the cataract surgeries, without glasses, I could barely read the top line of the eye chart. After the surgeries, without glasses, the UCLA team took me to the 20-20 level. For things as important as our eyes, I would highly recommend Dr. Lin and the UCLA team!

UPDATE: March 21, 2025 Since I posted this, Dr Lin and his staff have identified the issues and stepped up. They got me in immediately and took care of everything and Dr. Lin has called personally to check on my status twice. My astigmatism is now gone! I 100% recommend Dr. Lin! All companies have kinks they have to work through now and then, and I have a lot of respect when someone owns the situation and fixes it.. Original review...written in January 2025. I had surgery last July, and I see worse now than I did when I had cataracts. Office staff try to be helpful but I can not get someone to listen to me and understand my issues. Dr. told me in December he wanted me to be happy, but it's 6 weeks later and I still can't get back into his office. I tried again today and while the girl trying to help me did her best, she still didn't understand what I was telling her and I am back at square one. I am posting this review hoping someone at UCLA will take the initiative to do the right thing. I didn't pay $10,000 and extra $$ for astigmatism lenses to not be able to see.

From my first meeting with Dr. Lin to the final post-op appointment with Dr. Khorrami, I felt that I was in the hands of very competent and caring people. I found Dr. Lin's videos and emails particularly helpful in preparing for the cataract surgery and knowing what to expect in the coming days and weeks. I have been a patient of UCLA Health for 15 years and my experience with Dr. Lin and his team only increases my appreciation for and great satisfaction with the care I have received.

Dr. Shawn Lin performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes. The surgeries were very successful. I didn't have any complications during or after the surgeries. Initially, I was filled with apprehension at the thought of eye surgery; until my first appointment with Dr. Lin. At this point, I'm so happy I found Dr. Lin and very grateful that he restored my vision. The whole process, including the day of surgery, was a very positive experience. In addition to being an excellent surgeon, Dr. Lin is a kind & approachable surgeon. I always felt he was completely focused on giving his patients the best care. Dr. Lin listens to any concerns you have and takes the time to answer your questions. He explains the surgery & recovery process and through his emails & videos, you know what to expect at every step of the way. Dr. Lin has a very friendly, helpful and professional staff, which contributed greatly to a positive experience. I highly recommend Dr. Lin to anyone who needs cataract surgery!
