Drs. Balfour & Shapiro, Optometrists

Went to this place based off of convenience and reviews and I was with Dr. Shapiro. Appointment ran about an hour, normal, and he was thorough and was easy to talk to. I got my questions answered and found out a little more about my eyes. When I picked frames within my insurance, it was a decent sized option and even had colors and various frame types. Enjoyed the experience and can't wait for my glasses to come in! This place works with Medi-Cal plans! Bonus: Atmosphere is clean, nice, and is very cozy.

First time here, and it was hard to find a clinic that offers Otis & Piper frames covered by our insurance. I called the same day and was able to get an open appointment with Balfour & Shapiro Optometry for my son with Dr. Shapiro. That alone was a win. The clinic is located on Broadway between 5th and 6th Street in DTLA. I dropped my son off to find parking, and by the time I walked in, he was already picking out frames. The process moved fast and felt easy. Dr. Shapiro came out a few minutes later to speak with me and asked if I had any questions. That meant a lot. Our insurance only covered a specific frame brand. They had four Otis & Piper options, which were nice, but my son wanted a different frame from the wall. We paid an extra $55 for the frame he chose. I also upgraded his lenses with blue light protection, which was only $15 more with insurance. No pressure. No pushy front office staff. No forcing a second pair of glasses. Just clear choices. We were in and out in under an hour. The front desk was friendly and easy to talk to. Everything was ready when I came back to sign papers, pay for the upgrades, and pick him up. The eye exam results were neatly placed in an envelope. Parking in DTLA is tough, as expected. There are four metered street parking spots closest to the clinic, located in front of the Donut Friend shop, about four shops away. Always check for temporary "No Parking" signs before leaving your car. There is also a parking garage around the corner on 6th Street, within walking distance. Other nearby metered parking accepts coins or credit cards. Parking structures nearby are cash only and usually cost around $22-$25. Even with the parking hassle and traffic, the clinic experience itself was smooth and calm. No stress. No chaos. Just a good visit. Next time, I'll arrive about 30 minutes early to allow time to find parking and still make it to the appointment on time. Minus one star for limited parking access. That's due to the location, not the clinic itself. Plan your appointment accordingly and arrive early to account for parking.

Best eye doctor, in LA. I been going to him since I was a little girl I'm 34yrs old now. He's very patient and passionate about his job and clients. Receptionist is very nice and helpful. Not long wait time they get you in and out and explain everything about your appointment to you.

Drs. Shapiro and Balfour are both excellent and the staff is great! I have a difficult prescription and Dr. Shapiro went above and beyond with his time and kindness. You can go there with confidence.

This was the best eye doctor I ever been to and I've been getting eyeglasses for years. I want to think this place and definitely tell people about it. They cared about you and I want to thank you they were so nice and pleasant. The nicest place I've been in Fort Dennis for our doctor. Thank you.

I just had a very pleasant appointment with Dr. Shapiro. He was very thorough and professional and took the time to address all my vision issues. His office staff was friendly and professional as well. After my visit, Dr. Shapiro's eye exam report was also helpful and clear. I really enjoy going to see Dr. Shapiro.

I & spouse have been clients for years it the eye Doctor every Staff or wonderful the Drs.Balfour & Shapiro down to earth delightfully. You be smiling afterwards from ear to ear. I recommend anyone & everyone stop by. I love them yall are so gentle with you.

great from start to finish. ez to get same week appointment, nice staff and dr shapiro is VERY good at what he does. felt taken care of and no rigamarole runaround. in and out in 30! happy to have these folks on my eye side
