If you need vintage eyewear, this is the place for you. The proprietor, Chad, is very knowledgeable in all things fashion. If you are looking for something specific, he will help you out. If you aren't in a rush, you can sit down, have a cigar, and relax. When it's time for your next pair of sunglasses, this should be your first stop.

There's few places in Los Angeles that have a selection of glasses like this. Heck, I think this is the only place, period. I can appreciate when something is genuine. Chad is an incredible person and has vast knowledge of vintage glasses. He will find you with the right fit and make sure you leave feeling like a million bucks. Stop in for the glasses, stay for the conversation and second to none knowledge of all things vintage. I have bought 3 pairs from this shop and won't go anywhere else to find what I need. Not even Ebay can compare to this shop. More than fair prices and unrivaled selection.

Love popping in here whenever I find myself in Echo Park. There are some real unique pieces and Chad is exceptionally well versed in the world of vintage designer glasses and sunglasses. The space is such a vibe and everything is intentionally curated. You won't be disappointed.

I've been going to Gentlemen's for a few years now as they are one of the few eyeglass places left where you can take any frame that you own and get brand new lenses - any RX, any color. Great selection of frames as well. Always a good hang.

The quiet elegance of timeless fashion, the ambience of a mid century refurnished speakeasy, the love of a good woman and the soundtrack to your last night with her. The wind swept garage doors open to Mohawk street and sunlight pours in, filtered through the cigar smoke and reflected off of the newly fastened lenses, (they are opticians too).

Really wanted to like this place... but after getting both frames and lenses here I was severely disappointed! Frames: I was told my frames were authentic vintage frames from the late 60's and I was very excited to wear a piece of history. A few days after getting my new old frames, my friends dad (who has been an optometrist and frame dealer for over 30 years) immediately pointed out that my frames were reproductions, point out a few tell tale-details and even knowing the reproduction serial/model number off the top of his head. Yikes! Lenses: I was told that the lenses were made from some fancy glass that only he had access to, and he even game me the disclaimer that some people freak out about how clear their glasses are (sounded like snake oil to me). I was also guaranteed that these would be extremely scratch resistant. Not only were my glasses blurrier than my previous pair, but they scratched easier than any other pair I've ever owned! My most recent pair was from an online retailer where they send you a pair in the mail. Not only was my previous pair far clearer, but they NEVER received a single scratch after 3 years of use! My Gentlemen's lenses have scratched to the point of replacement in less than 2 years, and I baby my glasses! I really wanted to like this place as I have a huge appreciation for vintage wear! While it's possible the owner was unaware that the frames were reproduction, it either means he did not have the eye to discern a repro from original, or he willingly sold repros as original. However, I will say that main gentleman who helped me was very very friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

Van de la Plante is a great guy and proprietor of eyewear. Hooked me up with a great pair of Persols to replace a bad pair of glasses I've had for a year. Great conversations, scotch, laid back atmosphere, what more can a guy ask? Highly recommended. Edit: getting my second pair of glasses in two years. I've stayed for the whisky and conversations. I'm glad he's still here.

We happened upon this treasure of a store after visiting from Salt Lake City the OC Museum of Art for the Richard Diebenkorn exhibit on a fine Sunday earlier in the year. I happened to be looking for a special set of sunglasses. We spent about two hours, and being an aesthete myself, I had to appreciate the variety of unique choices and designs. As it was early afternoon, a whiskey was offered too... which I gladly accepted. Finally, we found a set that fit my face. However, we were not finished. The owner took his time fitting the sunglasses to my face perfectly. I've received numerous compliments on my shades and dearly wish for a Salt Lake City or at least Park City location. Sundance Film Festival, anyone? Until I visit again, cheers. Matthew P.
