The receptionist at the front, DAISY, Is extremely unprofessional and rude. My mom called to ask 1 very basic question about a referral and DAISY's response was "nobody is putting a knife over your neck, you don't have to go" , Like what the hell is her problem ? I called the office to make a complain and the office manager was very dismissive about the situation. Will be speaking to the Dr personally on my next visit about her. This incident occurred on 01/23/2026 around 10am over the phone.
Please do not come here. I have never felt so humiliated and disrespected at a doctors office. Not because of the staff, but because of the doctor.
For some background, my mother has extremely sensitive eyes so we were referred to Dr. Powell for a second opinion. My mother does not speak English, so I came with her to her appointment to translate.
Our appointment was at 2pm. We waited over 2 hours because the doctor was at lunch. I do not understand why they made an appointment for us at 2 if the doctor would be at lunch. When we finally saw Dr. Powell, she was extremely rude. Not rude to me, but rude to my non-english speaking mother. She was condescending making rude comments here and there. As I said, my mother has extremely sensitive eyes to the point where even indoors she wears sunglasses because it is hard to open her eyes. Dr. Powell continuously flashed bright lights at my mother's eyes (which we totally understand because we are at an ophthalmologist), which made it hard for her to keep her eyes open. However, Dr. Powell repeated more than 5 times that my mother was being uncooperative in a rude tone. I explained to her that my mother has sensitive eyes so it's hard for her to keep her eyes open. Dr. Powell proceeded to say "it's actually not that hard even kids can do it." She continued to say that my mother was being uncooperative, so she would have to put an instrument in my mother's eye. My mother didn't want that so I translated to Dr. Powell that my mom would try once more to keep her eyes open, but Dr. Powell said no, and proceeded just to shove the instrument (which we did not see her clean) in my moms eye without asking her for consent. Near the end of the appointment, she called me over to show me pictures of my mother's eye. My mother wanted to see too and started getting up, but Dr. Powell says to her "No you sit down you stay."
All this for her to give us the exact same diagnosis that we received at out first ophthalmologist.
This entire experience was an insult to me and my mom.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dr. Powell's clinic for an eye examination, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the reception staff and made to feel comfortable throughout my entire visit.
Dr. Powell is not only highly skilled and knowledgeable but also compassionate and patient-centered in their approach to care. They took the time to thoroughly explain the examination process and answered all of my questions with clarity and professionalism.
The clinic itself was clean, modern, and well-equipped with the latest technology, which further enhanced my confidence in the quality of care I was receiving. The entire staff, from the nurses to the technicians, were friendly, attentive, and efficient.
Thanks to Dr. Powell's expertise, my vision has improved significantly, and I feel more informed and empowered about my eye health than ever before. If you're in need of exceptional ophthalmological care, look no further than Dr. Powell and her wonderful team!
My brother has been a patient of Dr. Powell for the last 3 years.
She is very professional and detail oriented Doctor. She cares.
The staff is always been helpful and professional towards us.
Today is September 10, 2021. I had the worst experience with this doctor's receptionist today. She asked me for a COVID-19 test before I visit them, so I spent time going to the clinic and get the test results. But I had an appointment at 3 p.m., so I went to this hospital at 2:45 p.m., and the building security guard told me that they moved it to another address two months ago. So I called the doctor's office, and the receptionist told me she called me yesterday and said she couldn't contact me because my phone line was busy, but I think it's a complete lie. I only used one phone call yesterday, and I never got a call from the doctor's office, so I asked her why she didn't leave a message, and she said the phone line was busy so she couldn't leave a message. They didn't let me know at all that they had moved somewhere else when I made an appointment. So I asked if I could go to see the doctor now, and she said the doctor is not in the office and I had to make an appointment again in January, four months later. So, I asked her again why she didn't leave me a message then, she just hung up the phone while I was talking.
First and Foremost this is a very unprofessional, rude, ophthalmologist. It's been a year and yet my dad hasn't not been seen. Very sad to see that in your own community staff such as this workplace are not the ones helping out. Instead retaliate against what you say and it shouldn't be like this elderly people are also humans too. Do they not have parents themselves? My father's appointments has been postponed so many times and now that he had an appointment couldn't been seen because his insurance didn't place the right referral to the surgical hospital and how is my father supposed to know this; after a whole year they just tell us this, are you serious? Where is there work ethics at? This is very concerning and I will make sure to bring this up to the California Board of Optometry and Medical Board and look into a lawyer this can't continue going on! I see the continuous negligence that this staff provide to people this is very unacceptable and disturbing that people continue to go to this clinic.
Extremely unprofessional and unkind staff. My dad who needs an eye lift and can't see very was told to arrive 30mins early for his appointment. He arrive 45 mins early and was told by the receptionist that he was bothering her during her lunch. She gave him the fonts to complete. When he asked for assistance because he couldn't make out the words she yelled at him and refused to help. He then asked the lady conducting the temperature checks for help. She was kind but went over to ask the receptionist to do her job. The receptionist then went off on my dad saying he was rude and disrespectful. After waiting for over one month to get approval from his insurance company he left without being evaluated. Based on the other reviews I guess the staff doesn't care how they treat their elderly patients.
The scheduling department is the worst I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with. Apparently I never have the right referral, from my doctor? And they won't just tell me what code I need. It's very confusing. I've tried several times. But an appointment also wouldn't be available until September. And was told that like I should try somewhere else. Thanks for all the help.
