Dr. Justin Hu, O.D. - South Pasadena Eye Care Optometry

It's very rare that you find any place in healthcare that you know you want to go to for the rest of your life, in fact this may be the only case of that I've ever experienced. Everything about this place is amazing. Dr. Hu (and the rest of the staff) genuinely always feel like they're trying to help you, not just sell you things. Their prices are good, the service is great, and I've never left unhappy, unsatisfied, or feeling like I've been ripped off, which unfortunately can be common in many healthcare-related establishments. Multiple members of my family love this place, all with the same experiences.

Reviews looked great, and so I selected this office to get an eye examination and prescription. I have recently had a cataract operation and need a new prescription to compensate for the change in vision. I have medicare and supplemental insurance through United Health Care(UHC) and have their most expensive and comprehensive plan that does not require in-network choices. South Pasadena Eye Care says they cannot find my insurance plan information, and I will have to pay full cost for any service. I have been to at least 40 other appointments over the past 5 or so years I have had that insurance, and everyone was able to find the plan and determine my coverage. I have had three previous eye exams, all of which were able to find my plan and determine I was fully covered. UHC is the largest health care insurer in the U.S.; though there may be some reason coverage for this appointment is disallowed (though it was allowed in the previous 3 cases), how can they not even find my policy??? Based on other reviews, the Doctor seems competent and caring - but the office needs a new medical coverage team.

Hands down the best eye care I have ever received, period. Staff is very friendly and professional. I took my daughter who is Sped and really tested Dr. Justin's patience. He kept a calm demeanor and did his best to work with her. I feel comfortable recommending this place to friends and family, and they have earned my business for life. Big thank you for making it happen. I have had other unpleasant experiences in the past with upselling, but this is not that kind of place. They ask what you want, and give you exactly what you need.

I believe that are whole situation our problem, which is due to the lack of communication they would never call me and let me know when the glasses would be ready, but always told me that they would call me discontinued for a month and two weeks where I finally decided to call them and tell them to keep the glasses that I did not want them. And I came away with a good learning experience that there should've been better communication between us and the sad thing is that I did pay them a certain amount of money that I will never get back that I could've used to pay bills. I doubt that I will ever go back to them because of this experience and that's it Other than that. The first time I went to them, they were wonderful. The second time like I said through lack of communication and everything else it was not a good experience.

Glad to have found this local optometrist. They are friendly, professional and we've always felt taken care of during our visits. Dr Liem is excellent and also good w/ kids. These days it's harder to schedule a visit, usually we now have to book 2-4 weeks in advance, so plan ahead.

Incredibly kind and helpful staff! I came in because I was visiting family for the weekend but left behind my glasses and contact lens in the rush out the door. I showed them my prescription and insurance, and they were able to supply me with a five day supply of my contacts in less than 30 minutes. Supre easy, quick, and helpful. Thank you!

Dr. Hu is very precise w/ down to earth bedside manners. He's so knowledgeable to give pt edu & the whole crew is awesome. I'm looking forward to having my new lenses fitted!

Best optometrist I've ever been to! Dr. Liem is incredible. She was fabulous at calming my anxious brain down, and has a wonderful energy that makes patients feel calm. The front office staff is very friendly and professional. Absolutely will come back here forever.
